LC the way the comp is playing out there is one factor for our team that could keep us extremely competitive this year. A fit and firing Turbo. They say it every year about the comp being open, but honestly this year (so far) might be as close as I’ve seen it.

I still think we are a better side with DCE at halfback than Jake Arthur so until Fogarty arrives, I’d like to keep DCE, regardless of what an early release will mean for 2026.

Daly Cherry-Evans has informed the Dolphins of his preference to explore NRL options in Sydney - clearing the way for the Queensland Origin captain to finish his career at the Roosters.
This masthead can reveal the romance of a Cherry-Evans homecoming to Redcliffe is all-but over with the Dolphins privately resigned to missing out on the Manly champion.
It is understood Cherry-Evans has advised Dolphins bosses of his desire to look at Sydney-based options first - effectively ruling Redcliffe out of the race for his signature.
The battle for Cherry-Evans was considered a race in two between the Sydney Roosters and Dolphins after Canterbury football boss Phil Gould last month withdrew interest.
But Cherry-Evans has gone cold on the prospect of relocating to Queensland to finish his career at the Dolphins, putting him on course for an NRL swan song at Bondi.
The Dolphins had formally expressed interest in the 36-year-old and had the salary-cap space to pay in excess of $1 million a season for the premiership No.7.

Cherry-Evans played for the Dolphins’ under-8s and had longstanding family ties to the club via his father Troy Evans and uncle Steve Cherry, who both played for Redcliffe.
But the Dolphins have conceded defeat - believing Cherry-Evans will be at the Roosters in 2026 - and have set their sights on a five-eighth to partner halfback sensation Isaiya Katoa.
Former Broncos skipper and leading SEN commentator Corey Parker believes Cherry-Evans’ signing with the Roosters is a fait accompli.

However, he warned the Roosters against signing ‘DCE’ to a two-year deal, with the Maroons skipper to turn 37 next February.
“If you read the tea leaves, it all points to Daly going to the Roosters,” Parker said.
“They have let Brandon Smith go _ I believe that (the Roosters) is where he is going.
“Daly will fit in anywhere. If he did go to the Roosters, he will call the shots and steer the team around and Sam Walker can play off the cuff and do what he is good at.

It’s been 14 years since Cherry-Evans won a maiden title in his rookie year at Manly in 2011.
“If he wants to win a premiership before he retires as a senior player, I believe he is best suited to the Roosters,” he said.
“I think Daly would have been an outstanding mentor for Katoa, but if he goes to the Roosters, they could become a premiership contender.
“The Dolphins would never knock back a quality player like Daly, but the Roosters model has always been about not doing slow rebuilds, they want quick fixes and Cherry-Evans is the perfect solution.”

DCE to the Roosters was the obvious conclusion from the moment he made his ridiculous announcement. They aren't fooling anyone by keeping it quiet. The only reason for the ongoing cloak and dagger as far as I can tell is because they are probably trying to grab him before June 30.

This could all have been avoided and DCE's departure will not be a good one.

Its obvious that he went public knowing he had a deal in the bag and the bollocks statement that its not about money is a hollow one.

The club should have cut ties with him in the off season because our season is likely to achieve anything when the captain is no longer invested in the club.

I would change captains ASAP and have someone who wants to be at our club.

Such a pity that it came down to this!

Smart administrators end deals swiftly and in diplomatic way

Mestrov and The Manly Captain Never appeared together in their press conference
Metrsov Undiplomatic Contract Negotiations were OBVIOUS for all to see
and worse off they escalated from inhouse to Live on Air TV

But we never saw any of this amateur contract negotiations like we have from Mestrov

So it’s looking more & more like the club advised him they wouldn’t be making him an offer & he’s spat the dummy & appeared on channel 9 sans Manly gear (despite still being employed by Manly) in an act of sour grapes to try to make the club look bad.

Not very professional behaviour from a bloke who’s presented a very professional front until this point in time.

Makes me wonder if it’s all been an act (as many people have said as the reason they never warmed to him) & certainly makes me wonder exactly what really went down in Gladstone between he & Hastings.

For someone who said Manly was his full focus for the rest of the year in his departure interview, he hasn’t done a very good job of showing that.

Came out like a jealous ex almost instantly after the Fogarty signing was revealed and said he was keen to play Origin and on again next year, like we all didn’t already know that.

Alluded to potentially playing in Qld or overseas and it wasn’t about the money, but surprise surprise is now saying he wants to stay in Sydney.

Was a non factor in the 4 weeks after the interview as we beat the team running last then lost 3 on the trot with 2 of those at Brookvale. Played decent in the Penriff game but had Turbo back to carry him again.

Seems to me like everything is being dripfed from him and his management to avoid any heavy backlash when the inevitable Roosters signing is announced. Would make sense given how careful he has always been about his image. Fortunately most can see right through it, but it’s still painful watching this bloke continuing to run out as captain each week when it’s clear his focus is on anything but Manly.

I cannot commend the Roosters highly enough for their smart administration and decisiveness in slipping under our guard and nabbing DCE. Thank you Robbo. Thank you Uncle Nick. Without you we'd most likely be stuck with DCE for another year of overpaid mediocrity.

Tony Mestrov, well played with your fumbling attempt at a last minute offer. There was no way he was going to be enticed to stay after you lured his ego into thinking we didn't care earlier. Perfect bluff.
