NO ... He wasn't relieved of his duties either ... he coached up until his contract expired . Had he been relieved of his duties or "sacked" as you suggest ... he would have been entitled to an immediate payout .. No semantics change the facts.

@Woodsie, again from memory he had to serve a notice period whilst he was still employed by the Club.

They are not semantics at all, afterwards they then reached a new agreement to be paid out until mid-July 2019.

If his contract had expired at the end of 2018 (as you suggest) why was he so adamant about turning up when Hasler was appointed first grade coach and why would the Club have bothered paying him "garden leave" whilst they were "negotiating a payout" if his contract had expired?

Sorry am I missing something (and no, not in the way Susan's mother from Seinfeld muttered when both sets of parents met 🤣)?

He was adamant about turning up ... because he was honouring his contract ... if he had been sacked as you state ... this wouldn't have been necessary ... he would just take the payout as outlined in the contract under early cancelation.

I don't recall the club ever "negotiating" for a payout ... or even hinting at the possibility of one.

The simple fact remains the initial move was made by Barrett informing the club that at the expiry of his current contract he would not be seeking to re-sign. From that moment on it became all spin and damage control by the club.

That doesn't mean anything in SOO Bozo. You may need to be corrected here because I'm pretty sure it wasn't just Mal calling all the shots. Those high profile players in Thurston, Cronk, Smith, Slater and maybe even Seibold would definitely have had a say.
We will agree to disagree feathered friend
The Head of every Department is the Head and the Head has the Final say
Assistants have A say but the Head Coach has The Final say

This is why the Head coach is accountable for his teams Results
Because he has the Final say and He is the First to Get Fired

I think it was a bit different to that, I think Barrett's deal had a clause where either party could get out with 12 months notice. It was a dumb clause becuase barret gave notice in July meaning he'd be still there till part way through next season which is idiotic. That's the point where Des was hired for next year and Barrett was off to gardening leave or such.

But this is only from memory and coudn't be bothered checking as its quite ancient history (thank gawd)

Which premiership did DCE win as captain?

It's good we have now found a replacement for cherry. Now i want to see a signing that will help improve our squad. Considering a halfback replacement was a given
