The Daly Cherrygraph

I don’t think the paying more for an inferior product (I.e. Fogerty) criticism is fair because I don’t believe Daly signs a deal of any kind at Manly; he wanted out for more than just dollars. He’ll probably get a mil somewhere else anyway but I don’t think Manly were left with a choice. He wasn’t signing for anything with us, so we had no choice but to look elsewhere. The market dictates the values and if that’s why Fogerty is worth on the market, that’s what we have to pay.

That market rate is being inflated because it has been telegraphed that we apparently want/need him. We need a decent plan B because otherwise we'll end up overpaying for someone who'll be 32 by Round 1 next year...

I don’t think ‘telegraphed’ inflates the price. It’s nice to believe that the number crunchers get their value from Rothfield’s column but it’s a bit more complicated than that.

I do agree we don’t want to pay overs because he is no spring chicken and he is a slowish half as it is…but we’ll pay him what we think we think he is worth and what we can afford in negotiation with his manager, not because of media interest.

To be clear from the NRL website this is the definition

Veteran and Developed Player Allowance

Veteran and Developed Player Allowance for eligible players who were either developed by the club prior to becoming NRL players and/or have been a Top 30 player for at least 8 years at the club or have been a Top 30 player for at least 10 years across the game.

Having a look through the current squad (and I am sure I have missed something / someone!)

It would not shock me if part of the long term contracts for players like Haumole factor in when he kicks into his 8th year etc

Look like Taukeiaho meets the last of those criteria if he’s resigned for 2026 as he played 9 years at the chooks (2014–2022) after jointing them from the Wahs, and then a 10th year in the NRL with us in 2025.

This whole saga could have been handled so much better.

If DCE's intention was that 2025 was to be his last year, it should have been announced that this was happening and the club responding with offering him a testimonial season for his service and efforts to the club over 15 years.

It would have avoided this ugly messy departure where the club and DCE made things so hard for the fans and members.

What might of been, now we are forced to watch a player whos heart is no longer at the club and in one month our hopes for 2025 have proven to be yet another mirage.

I implore the club to learn from this and handle things professionally!

DCE, well you sullied your legacy, always remembered as a fantastic half back and holder so far of the games record of this club, yet proves yet again that DCE is all about DCE!!

The rorters with Smith and Savala in the halves and Sam Walker to come back. I doubt they're wasting money on DCE. It's looking like Dolphins or Titans which will be a total flop. Dogs , Parra surely after Galvin.

Fair point , but always thought it was the club that could offer him the full Monty , not just about the next two years.

Only against the dragons but the way Sandon Smith just went I wouldn't be throwing the house at dce if I was the roosters but I hope they do, would be nice to see him cause trouble somewhere else. Still think he may end up at the Titans he's a big enough d1ckhead to believe his own redemption story, strange feeling he goes there on less money to trys and play the hero.
