The Daly Cherrygraph

Not saying there are any rights or wrongs above, just highlighting the way the concept of loyalty has been applied across both stories.
In our case, Manly bashing is just too much fun for journos. Remember though, it was all DCE's fault back when he backflipped on the Titans.
The tigers, on the other hand, have an exciting young coach/former legend player, in Benji. They've bought premiership winning players to the club, and can potentially become a feel good comeback story by making the finals this year. In this case it's easier to blame the 19 year old. I feel for that kid.
The media are very slimy.
As for our form, many thing are contributing IMO. We're in a slump physically with injuries and whether it's coincidence or not, the players seem distracted since the DCE announcement. I think were up against it for the next few weeks but am hopeful we can return to form before it's too late.
Go Manly!

This is a moment when Leadership is needed. Over the last couple of weeks the playing style of the team has looked fragmented and confused. I think that likely is also the state of some personal relationships. We need a unifying figure who can bring the team together behind him. Not necessarily any insult meant to DCE, but given his situation he can't be that guy. Jake for Captain is the right move, Turbo once back for Vice-Captain.

The club needs to shift the dialogue, bot internally and externally, to something like "We've elevated Jake to Captain to take one burden off Cherry and to practise the way forward next year. Cherry will always be a legend of the Sea Eagles, this is no negative on him. Our focus going forwards is entirely on the remainder of the playing year, the Top 8, and giving Cherry the send off he deserves."

This is exactly how the club should be thinking. DCE has said he's publicly letting everyone know that his future lies elsewhere so the club can move forward knowing that it's a future without him. So there's no dramas in standing him down as captain and moving forward with Jake as skipper. I'm not saying drop him (unless his form warrants it) just let someone lead the club who wants to lead the club

Please not Jake, I would go with olakauatu, the next up and coming enforcer.
Jake is too soft,

Jake is too soft,

I like it, Jake's probably only got one season left in him hopefully. Have him support the new long term captain and give Ola the honour and hopefully he doesn't want to leave them, or we are well and truly farked.

I received some very good advice as a junior Army Officer “the hard decision is the right decision” .. the hard decision right now is to take the captaincy from DCE and give it to a real leader of men for the next year or two .

To me , the man who oozes leadership is Croker . No nonsense , puts his body on the line has a go.

DCE is a natural talent. But he has overseen a very poor period (scandal after scandal) in the clubs history and much of the controversy has revolved around his actions.

I think you’re confusing fairness with softness. Jake is not soft. He is as competitive as anyone. You only need to look at him revving up the team throughout the game to know that. And look at how hard he takes losing. He HATES it. He’s an inspirational captain and even when he captained NSW, madge said he couldn’t think of anyone better for that role. What’s more he absolutely loves this club - and what more could you want from your captain.

Agree with Croker , but he needs to be on the field.

Has to be Jake. He bleeds Manly.

And so glad the media are talking about this because you can bet your life, DCE has a google alert set for any time his name is mentioned in the media.

Put up or shut up or get off the pot or out of the kitchen darl!

Croker ...wow, thats a left field pick. From possible medically retired to Captain..

Jake shouldn't even be in the starting side let alone captain obviously with the playing roster we have and injuries he is but he'd be better served coming of the bench he might even be able to bend a tired defensive line once and awhile
Tom and Jake co captains. Jake said during his recent interview he would be honoured to be captain.
He should be happy enough with a bench spot on current form
