Slowed down the last few years but Jake is a real manly legend already. Hope he can win a comp before retiring, I think he would happily take the pay cut after next season if it means we can sign a top player to get us over the line, Turbo is in the same boat. Now that comes as a real surprise that the Roosters would be interested in him, I'm gobsmacked.
The thing is, it's only taken DCE 10 years to find his true value , because for the first 8 years of his contract he was paid overs which burdened our salary for many years, 1.2 million a year when your cap is 9 million is a lot tougher to manage than 1 million when the cap is 13 million

Without reading the 43500 posts made since Monday I'm going to throw my thoughts in the ring.

Firstly WTF happened on Monday night? I mean wow. Out of the blue.

Secondly it was a 50 50 toss up as to who was or is at fault early on but as the week has progressed I'm heading towards the idea that Mestrov and more importantly Seifold have screwed the pooch.

If the latest rumours are to be believed the club and by extension the coach was shopping DCE around last season. That was strange in my opinion.

Michael chammers just Xed that low and behold the club was going to make an offer to DCE by round 6. The same round Jamal Fogerty becomes a free agent from the raiders apparently.

Jamal Fogerty FFS. That is not a premiership HB.

If it bears out that DCE was being shopped around last year and that the club has been looking for replacements and playing games then I don't blame the guy at all. He's still a top 4 HB and we are going to see our supposed window smashed close now when he goes.

Everyone knows I was in camp Des when he was let go. My whole idea was you needed a better option if you are going to replace the coach. I didn't see seibold as that guy.

Now it's happening all over again. If we have Cleary, Hughes or perhaps Galvin locked up then sure. Play the game and dump DCE but I don't think that's the case.

It is very common that players managers plan ahead and extend contracts especially with elite players
When player managers get the drift that the current club is not interested in talking extensions they try to shift their Marquee players else where for a club that wants their player for a longer deal
and Eventually thats what will happen to DCE .
That is not being a Grub . That is what is called Looking after your own interest .

I care nought about what the club supposedly “ did do “ or supposedly “ didn’t do”.

What I know is this.

Our longest term player , and club captain, knowingly went on TV and basically trashed the club without any thought for the club or the fans.

In my opinion , unforgivable!!

Regardless ( absolutely regardless ) of what happened behind closed doors , we the fans , from a 15 year veteran ( and club captain ) deserved a dignified announcement.

We didn’t get it , so **** him!!

I’ll cheer the team for the rest of the year but I’m cheering the players who respect the club , not some twat who is only there there for the $$$$

Who really knows. All I do know is the club has form in cocking stuff up in a royal way.

Whispers have it that Seibold and DCE don't really get on so that might be it? Seibold would have final say on shopping DCE around if that was indeed a thing.

For the club to offer a contract on air on NRL 360 screams of incompetence to me.

Also I'm sorry. This thread was dead quiet for ages until I posted on it a few weeks ago about how DCE will be one of our greatest players and a possible coach one day. The following game he tweaks his back then 7 days later all this blows up. I'm just going to shut up next time.

But here we go again. A club legend having to blow up the place for whatever reason?

At a minimum, we have heard he wanted a release last preseason (2024) if the club were shopping him around they would have granted it. Choc, Foz & the Stewart’s were 100% right about DCE, he didn’t even counter offer the value of the 2 year deal because he’s off to the roosters next year for big money… and bozo is just defending him because bozo is the other manly halfback who went to the roosters for the coin 💰😂

And there are no hard facts to back up the claim he got offered “50% of his salary” in fact both he and the club said there had been no offer before this week.

Seibs has been quoted previously as saying that Jake brings something to a football team that cannot be quantified in numbers… that is why he was captain of NSW last year and it is why I will not be surprised if he makes the squad again this year… he is a leader and I agree he should be captain sooner rather than later - even if for no other reason than to get Chez out of the press conferences and let him concentrate on footy…

As someone else pointed out, Humphries did not debut in the knights game until after he had already signed with vermin… Manly were talking with Fogarty by November…

There is a good chance Humphries was simply not rated…

If you were to be honest that was just a Manly Silvertails thing. At least 3/4 of the coaches in the NRL would have taken DCE no questions asked. Would the rubbish years you speak of be the Trent Barrett years by any chance?
He won a premiership. Won a Clive Churchill in a GF we were robbed in. Played in a side that was pretty ordinary at times. Captained QLD and led them to series wins.
I'd say we were lucky to have him but perhaps that's just me.
