The Daly Cherrygraph

Despite his age people still compare him to Cleary. Also, one of the few origin level players we have. The fact that Manly haven't built a decent forward pack for him is a shame.

Each club has to manage their salary cap, but when you have a halfback occupying 16% of a 30-man salary cap for 8 years, then the club really has to rely on outstanding rookies and bargain buys to fill the gaps across the roster... and if they are good then those players won't remain at bargain prices for very long, so we'd then have to look for others. It is a strategy that hasn't worked, unfortunately.

I would prefer we don't break the bank to keep him if he really wants to go to market now.

I'd give him two years at 800k a season in a heartbeat. We aren't winning a premiership in 26' or 27' without him, so roll the dice. The worst that can happen is he goes down injured and/or suffers a dip in form. At least have a shot at the dartboard. You only have to look at Galvin at the Tigers - the most highly rated young half in the game by some margin and he still has a very long way to go.

I wonder what the chooks were paying cronk at the back end of his career? Probably wasn't even 800k.
And this , is exactly the position WE should take.

If you remember they picked Gronk up from the Storm on supposed big money BUT we then find out he’s being paid as a “ consultant “ for the Rorters for 5 years ( still paid by the NRL but a part of the coaching cap ).

We can do , exactly the same thing.

DCE has earnt big dollars on his career , and will absolutely earn big dollars with Fox when he retires as let’s face it , he’s 3 times as smart as any of them on there at the present.

But the one thing he will crave most is another premiership ring.

Is that more likely to happen at Manly or the Dolphins ?????

To do this he should take a haircut and allow the club to invest in their obvious shortfalls , and more than anyone he’ll know exactly what that is.

I rest my case.

100% agree… without him we go back to the start so why not pay the cash, get the 2 years of Chez at his top and get the mentorship of our young halves as well…

Absolute steal at $800K for 2 years (if he agrees) and Chez does not get injured… you could break him in half and he would have 1 week off to be rejoined and then lace them up…

Any rep level player off contract is going to play out in public. Luai, Cheese & Brown are some examples of the top of my head recently
I look at this another way, keeping DCE’s contract discussions private would have prevented potential distractions, undue pressure, and media scrutiny, allowing for a more focused negotiation with Manly that prioritises team dynamics and performance over public speculation, he is the club captain and discretion from a leader is what you want at a club.

He is The Man
We can Replace him but we have no one to Replicate his Experience or Brilliance
The right thing to do is
Show him the Money
<3 Love our Manly Captain DCE

DCE has already earned a Premiership Winning Ring .
He is the only Halfback at our club that is MO$$$$$$T capable of leading Manly to another Title
Let us stop fart arsing around. Open up the Manly Till and show him the Money

Also I would be surprised if he moved back to redcliffe unless it was perm - he has three daughters born and raised onthe beaches. It is a big move to make
Money does Move people
Even if it was a Temporary move
Anything is possible feathered friend

One year extension at $800k is a no-brainer. Don’t like the idea of 2 years.

I think the team needs to transition from being DCE’s to someone else’s. I don’t think it’s Jake, Tom’s fitness is always in question, and Haumole is green. But if DCE stays on beyond this year, I want to see a new captain because that is an important part of the succession plan.

Yes, the elusive premierships are every players dream naturally. But imagine playing your whole career at one club just to leave and win one at another club, would seem "flat" to me.
Of course unless you were punted from a club, it would then be awesome.
He has already won a premiership too. I think it’d be a nice cap on his manly career. Otherwise I think with another club it stains his one club legacy and means a whole lot less.

This is worthy of a listen, starting at the 16:10 minute mark, I never knew it was allowed to have a portion of your cap phase into a job at the club post playing career, Reid was of the understanding this is part of the contract offer from Manly to DCE.

Thanks!

I was interested to hear that 'buzz' didn't know some rules about the salary cap seeing he doesn't mind commentating on it a lot.

Was it Dobbing who kept asking 'Why is it more romantic to dce to stay at Manly rather that go to Queensland?'

I'd suggest being a '1 club man' as a reason.

And to hear brent read say he grew up a manly fan until the broncos came along.

Anyway... We've had Manly before dce and obv will after.
Sometimes I get frustrated with his headless chook 5th tackle plays, other times I love the 40-20 to get us territory. If he's all about the money and 2 years, does manly keep him?
I hope the powers at be are working hard with the next man up.

I dunno what will be and as I don't control it my mind moves off.

'squirrel..!'
