The Daly Cherrygraph

I'm pleased Manly hasn't just said, 'Yep just let us know how much you want Cherry and of course you're here as long as you want'. Obviously we want him and he wants to stay but if he does we want to pay him less and he wants to be paid more. He might still pull up stumps, there's a long gruelling season ahead, but if he plays on it would be astounding if it wasn't at Manly.

As for the wording of the news reports, reporters will 'cherry-pick' whichever comments they think most newsworthy so I highly doubt that all he talked about was Origin and didn't have anything to say about an exciting new year at Manly.

Are there still people who don't know how the media works? 🤷‍♂️

You only have to look at the latest Channel 9 NRL promo to know how it works. Not a Sea Eagle in sight.

However yes, obviously Manly have firmed up a DCE succession plan. It will just depend how ready some of the other halfback options are in 2025, before we can determine DCE’s future beyond 2025.

Nice to hear such a focus on Queensland, dude forgets which side his bread is buttered on.

He is our club captain and he is emphasising the importance of origin 6 months out rather than leasing us into the season.

It’s reasons like this I’ve never 100% warned to him, for someone who chooses his words carefully he has a painful lack of self awareness and perception

It’s an odd dichotomy

a club captain, who at 35 years of age, is still determined to be playing well enough to be selected on form for Queensland ...

That will do me for a club captain all day long ... and twice on sundays ...

Actually D C E turns 36 quite soon but just based on his prevailing general fitness and still no doubt footy ability , no reason why he can not keep producing top level footy .
Would have generally preferred him to opt out of rep footy but if it can act as some extra motivation and in the present circumstances , probably no big issue .
So looks like going around again at Manly in 26 ,and fair enough at this stage and if his body and general fitness is still holding up but beyond that and with Walsh prepared [ or expected to be ] as he could be to step up , surely time to pass on the baton to Walsh for 27 .
If Walsh is as capable on some indications to playing top level footy , not much point developing him for a couple of seasons , then still a road block or losing him if the opportunity is not there for 27

Ngl this is concerning from DCE, he's usually a straight shooter.

Interestingly, the off-contract veteran fielded expressions of interest upon becoming a free agent last November, evidence Cherry-Evans is the NRL’s version of NFL quarterback legend Tom Brady, who won a Super Bowl at age 43.
Am I missing something here regarding talk of DCE not ending his career with us? That highlighted sentence above is in the past tense, and it makes reference to him getting offers last November. Isn't that when he recommitted to Manly for the next few years? So what's the problem?

Except that age is that thing that one minute/month/year, the body is not a problem, but a moment later, it's a metre slower, the reflexes are not what they were, and, no matter the desire, those curtains are closing.

I'd be ensuring Walsh is ready
