The Daly Cherrygraph

Sadly I don't' have the faith some on here have. I see the Titanic sinking fast after hitting an iceberg and unless the hole in the hull is fixed it will sink. This situation is far different to the first 5 rounds of 2021 the subsequent improvement during 2021 thanks primarily to a freak season by Turbo. In 2022 we have gone backwards at a rate of knots playing a outdated style of error ridden football and are in a far worse position roster wise in 2022 and added to that have a fractured playing group and a battle between those bringing players through the system and the coach. Things don't get better in a toxic environment like that. Things just won't get better without change.

One glimmer of hope could be that Manly were quite competitive and well in the games at various stages against the likes of the Eels , Souths and Cowboys and without Turbo in the main . Different matter with the Panthers , Manly have had some definite problems competing with their playing style for some seasons now . Just how much longer does this injury dilemma impose its damaging effect for Manly , that is the or one of the key issues . Can certainly do with some better playing tactics as well but will never get to top billing with so many and regular injury setbacks and not having the best or close to best available side out there on a fairly continuous basis or when it really matters .

Lol, error ridden football is never out outdated!
It is popular every season with any side under the pump, whether from lack of talent, key players wiped out by injury, the squad losing belief or focus, etc etc etc 🙂

DCE involved in PLENTY of bloody amazing things here today / tonight (I understand who the opposition is of course before anyone rips into me) :
Nothing new here

The Fact is DCE always delivers at the back of a dominating forward pack

Another fact is that there were no Manly forwards selected in that winning pack

and Another Fact is that the PNG team were as competitive as our Flat track Bullies were this season

The PNG side was entirely reserve graders (Q Cup) but a few of them seemed pretty willing and good leg speed. Wonder if our recruitment team were watching, hopefully not all on holidays @:D

Which PNG players with ability from memory stood our for you feathered friend ?

Put on your Manly recruitment hat and share your views

Be very interesting to see how Condon, Tuilagi, Boyle, Bullemor, De Luis, Sipley, Croker and others go against those decent teams

I've seen you mention this (or similar) a few times but its likely of the 7 you list only 3 ......maybe at a stretch 4 would be in our top 17 and Croker, whilst I agree in the long term would be good to upgrade on, was still our player of the year this year.

Like saying, interesting to see how the Roosters go with Naiqama , Carr, Thomas, E Butcher, Atoni and Watson against the big teams...

The Croker player of the year perspective

That was a great achievement for the modest pay earning and moderate playing Croker
To get our Prestigeous player of the year award

Our other blokes that are getting paid 10 times more than him should hang their heads in shame for their mediocre efforts that left our club in a mediocre state this season

Probably right. I think it'll be:

08. Josh Aloiai (career ave. 97 metres)
09. Lachlan Croker (career ave. 32 metres)
10. Sean Keppie?? (career ave. 69 metres)
11. Haumole Olakau'atu (career ave. 99 metres)
12. Kelma Tuilagi (career ave. 63 metres)
13. Jake Trbojevic (career ave. 117 metres)

14. Karl Lawton (career ave. 42 metres)
15. Taniela Paseka (career ave. 89 metres)
16. Toff Sipley?? (career ave. 69 metres)
17. Ethan Bullemor?? (career ave. 63 metres)

18. Ben Condon (career ave. 44 metres)
19. Kurt De Luis (career ave. 48 metres)
20. Morgan Boyle (career ave. 67 metres)

Just a guess at the players with ??. But wow, some of those stats shocked me (go Jake !!). Boyle is a pleasant surprise. Paseka isn't far off Josh Aloiai (who isn't far off Olakau'atu). Oh, we've lost:

21. Marty Taupau (career ave. 127 metres)
22. Andrew Davey (career ave. 59 metres)

What are your thought's on that full strength rotation? Compare that with a full strength Chooks. I'll take a few of their forwards:

JWH (career ave. 118 metres)
Lodge (career ave. 128 metres)
Crichton (career ave. 118 metres)
L. Collins (career ave. 90 metres)
Butcher (career ave. 82 metres)
V Radley career ave. 84 metres)
S Taukeiaho (career ave. 135 metres)
Tupouniua (career ave. 58 metres)

In order for us to step up next season we need our forwards and Hooker to step up
and to lay a winning platform with better metre milage than that

With moderate performance stats like that it will be difficult to out perform the top performers

I mean, I guess it shows we aren't TOO far distant to The Chooks though. One or two additions (or improvements with greater game time), we are almost there, right?

For the record - Sam Verrills is actually at 30 metres on average, and people say he's a great runnign hooker. That's less than Lachlan Croker. I didn't put C Watsons stats in their because he's mainly a half and lock, and comparing him to Croker and Lawton would be unfair.

You can add The Cheese and Barnstorming Brendon Smith to that Roosters Ranking list
The Cheese is part of their rebuilding towards another competitive season
Nothing personal with Croker that tries his heart out
But between him and The Cheese there is no contest
We need to upgrade our current squad quality players to be able to contest with the best

Verrillis was only a back up at the Roosters
He is now being Upgraded with the very much superior Cheese
And the only way with Upgrades is up

Each to your own but i would point out that in 2020 when we came back from covid into Vball and six agains we really struggled.

After the huge effort of 2019 we built a big tough pack and set up to play to game as the rules allowed. However once the vball started we looked like shot ducks.

FF to 2022 and again we were screwed when the NRL decided to hit the brakes and change the game again. Now yes there are other problems to be fixed but come next year we might just surprise many on here.
