What most impressed me about DCE today. He confirmed he is the best player to lead this team.

I'm not interested in the flashy, low percentage, pieces of brilliance he managed to do today. Nope.

It was when Jake's try was turned into a penalty against us. He asked the Ref for an explanation. No rubbish comments to the ref. He grinned. Got back into the defensive line and moved on. He didn't let that rubbish decision distract what he could control, the rest of the game. Nor let the Ref call influence in a negative way how he played.

Jake, Jake was a bit more invested sure, But by standingthere and arguing with the ref after he has already explained it to the captain.

Probably lucky he wasn't marched 10.

Baz has got the Captain call right.

absolutely, i've been saying the same things since the start of the season.

jake can be inspirational through his actions, and he will continue to do that, be a leader on and off the field , just by being who he is. he doesn't need the C to do that.

DCE is a much better choice for tactical referee management, which, unfortunately, in the modern game, is a large part of the captaincy role.

i'd suggest it's great for DCE's confidence too, and since he's getting 1 mill + a season, let's hope he's as confident as he can be!!

Our season officially started when Chez was asked if Baz's position was under threat and he laughed it off. That was the big **** you to the haters and lit a fire under the boys.

PS high 5 to all those that kept the faith ;)

I don't know if it has been mentioned but they all look like they are on the same page and there is no division. First season in many there has been no mention of player unrest.

Couldn't agree more. The way whole team celebrates a try or good piece of play, as well as their commitment to each other in defence, shows genuine unity. Also loved BJ running in to protect his skipper when Klemmer tried be a hero. He had the crazy eyes going and genuinely wanted a piece of him. Klemmer couldn't get out of there quick enough lol.

Probably realised we had BJ, AFB and Tapau lining him up when all he wanted was a piece of DCE or Api because he's a massive cat.

He is the ultimate leader. In the last game against the Roosters, he had a chat with one of the refs and you can tell they respect him. Ive seen so many other players get the STFU face by refs. Pure legend.

DCE driving off field change

The Daily Telegraph - Matt Logue

MANLY captain Daly Cherry-Evans has rediscovered his brilliant best but it’s off the field where he is making the biggest impact according to his teammates.

Sea Eagles players are crediting the team’s three straight wins to Cherry-Evans, who organised an emotional meeting after the side’s round two loss to South Sydney.

With six of the top 17 players new to the club, DCE wanted the team to understand the significance of donning the famous Manly jersey.

To achieve this, he sat down with the players to unlock the motivation driving them to succeed.

Hooker Api Koroisau believes the honesty meeting was a masterstroke from Cherry-Evans — a bloke he rates as a born leader.

“That was huge from Daly to bring the boys together and solidify the team,” Koroisau told The Daily Telegraph.

“You are a team of individuals until you learn how to be one team and play together.

“The boys really had to think about Manly and we had to give a reason why we wanted to play.

“People come from different parts of the world and from other teams, so sometimes playing for a club doesn’t really mean that much to you.

“But that (meeting) really made everyone think about what it means to play for Manly.

“I thought it was really big of him (Daly) to bring us together and now we have turned it around.”

Koroisau has no doubts Manly is now Cherry-Evans’ team, the sole survivor from the club’s 2011 grand final-winning side.

“I think the thing that has impressed me the most about Daly is that all his decisions have been made with the team,” he said.

“He hasn’t gone off individually or tried to do things by himself, he always includes the boys.

“That’s one of the traits of being a good leader.

“You don’t whip the lash from behind, you get at the front and start pulling with everyone.

“I think Daly is really starting to come out of his shell and he is playing some really good footy.”

Fullback Tom Trbojevic has also been highly impressed with Cherry-Evans’ leadership this season.

“He is our captain and our leader and we all fall back to him when times are tough.

“There was a massive bond built up over the off-season.

“The first two weeks we weren’t good enough and I guess we’ve had a massive change in attitude and all the boys are going out there with a desire to win and that meeting Daly set up as had a lot to do with it.”
