[Resurrected] The Beaver and Napper Show

Two of the absolute all time champion Sea Eagles who gave so many of us so much pleasure over the years.

You just knew when Nappa took off that the Beaver would be right there on his shoulder waiting for that sublime pass for yet another “ try time”.

Hats off to both of them!!

Just stumbled on this photo on NRL museum facebook! Bottom row, third from the left!

I can't do a screen shot, but at 11:09 in this video from Rd 18 in 1993 is Cliffy and Beaver as reserves sitting on the Manly bench. I don't think even coach Bozo knew what a lethal combo he had siting there unused.
Beaver's 5th first grade game... he went on to play another 507 top level matches!!!
(total 349 first grade, 28 NSW and City Country reps, 15 for Australia, and 120 in ESL)
Legend!

Just looked up the stats. The first Beaver try didn't come until 1994.

Not sure when the first Lyons pass to Menzies try was as a lot of 1994 games aren't on Youtube.

Beaver's first try involved Lyons, but not a Lyons to Menzies pass. See 47:46 mark.

Noted the difference in the defense. Rock solid. The present side should look at that video. Thanks OWBK
Also noted the difference in the state of the ground, compared to Brookie now.

Another observation - a shame we don't have those massive flags waving on the hill as they sure add to the spectacle.

Thanks for the video @Once Was Brissie Kid - brought back some great memories!

Ah, those big flags!
My mum sewed one up for me, not sure how "big" it was but to a young kid like me it was huge.
Memories of coming home from Brookie after a win with me hanging it out the back window of the car, we'd see heaps of others too, no chance these days.
There also used to be a guy with a huge flag running up and down the the median strip near the Ranch on Epping Rd after a win.

Fun fact. Cliffy never voluntarily retired at the end of 1999. His NRL career ended when the Northern Eagles failed to offer him a contract. Souths wanted him for 2000 but they got cut from the NRL.

Coleman wants Cliffy

By DANNY WEIDLER
Discarded Manly veteran Cliff Lyons can expect a call from Souths coach Craig Coleman. Coleman gathered his remaining players at training yesterday, telling them the club's future would be known in the next three weeks. The passionate Souths man held the Rabbitohs' first session at Coogee beach, putting his four remaining first-graders - Craig Wing, Chris Caruana, Jason Nicol and Ian Rubin - through their paces with a group of lower-grade players. Coleman said he would welcome any grade players who wanted to train with the Rabbitohs and said he would be getting in contact with Lyons. "I'll be ringing Cliffy to get him on board. He has plenty to offer," Coleman said. "There are heaps of guys without clubs. The blokes from the Manly-Norths joint venture are looking for starts."
