The Anthony Seibold Grievances MEGA THREAD

The team is better than last year. Seibold will very well know what our weaknesses are. We lost 3 of our last 5 games…. losing the ruck. In the 1st final against the dogs we also lost the ruck so that’s 4 out of the last 5 games. Seibold would know this very well but this does not necessarily mean he is going to declare it in the pressers. He would know very well he has a lot of work to do in the offseason including tweaking the roster to fix this… I think he has done enough to deserve this opportunity.

Can Seibold for once after a loss at the post match press conference stop saying that the other side was better. Its nearly every game he makes this comment and it’s annoying, he needs to take a harder line when we aren’t performing to an acceptable standard to allow the other side to win,it just not simply about the other side performing better. Its this attitude of resignation that I find irritating.
The other matter is about the players not playing in position where they are stronger, and it’s just not me that has this opinion but the majority of supporters.
There has to be necessary changes to the side from this year otherwise next year will be the same, but try telling the coach that these changes are justified and I think we all know where it needs to be addressed.
Hoping to build from this exceeding expectations this year, because this club is to good for anything less.Go Manly!

Our past four coaches have had a turn at missing the finals, so us making Finals Week 2 is hopefully a start.

We have to improve next year and Top 4 has to be the pass mark. We haven't made consecutive finals series since 2013-14 so that needs to change. Defense and second-phase play needs to improve and that should be achievable. A few players need to swap around but that should be okay. What to do with our forward rotation is a bit trickier due to the salaries and contract length of some of those players involved. We still need proper cover for Tom so that should be addressed in the off-season.

If Seibold has secured a contract extension, then hopefully he'll be emboldened to make some tough but necessary calls for 2025.

I think we are performing to an acceptable standard though, we just get beaten by better sides. You could see we turned up and gave our best on Saturday night but the opposition were better. He'd do more damage rubbishing the team to the media and calling them out for a lack of effort, when it was pretty clear they were trying.

It's as if people think Manly can just will themselves to victory by caring as much as the fans do. It doesn't work like that. There's an opposition that cares just as much and might have more talent or a better game plan or circumstances turn things their way. It happens.

I'd like to see some steel from Seibold and he should be prepared to say he expected more from the players at times when it is warranted. I appreciate coaches appear more dispensable than players and don't want to tick off the players but the coach needs to have authority and the player's fear and respect. Manly give him an extension with the condition that he hardens up. Sorry.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who has this opinion. If the players annoyed by the warranted criticism then they shouldn’t be in first grade.
These players are on decent money and should show more consistency in their performances
There is a saying”you have to cruel to be kind”

you don’t need the validation of others to hold a valid opinion.

I doubt he is avoiding public criticism for fear of annoying the players. It’s probably got more to do with the fact that we finished in the second week of the finals and only lost two regular season games by more than 10 points. When you consider there were 12 other clubs beneath us, 9 of which didn’t make the finals and many of whom conceded numerous floggings, you can start to rationalise why a knock on the players in the press conference never materialised.

I’m sure Seibs would have tried beating up on the players in the press conference, if he thought it might equate to a better on field performance the following week. As it stands, he probably saw them work hard at training and give it there all in games, but fall short because there has to be a loser in every match; whether fans like it or not.

Fear? wow the Panthers must all be terrified of Ivan.

Fear and humiliation, all sounds a little bit old-fashioned somehow.

Might work for some but Seibold apparently prefers a more collaborative approach, with input from support coaches and also the players.
Does it work? time will tell but bear in mind a couple of pundits had predicted a big season for Manly but most had us out of the top 8! So 6 or 7th was an improvement anyway.

I think all of the comments above shows that we as a collective, including the club have lowered our once lofty standards. I can guarantee you that Penrith, Easts and the filthy purple scum wouldn't view exiting week 2 of the finals as acceptable at any time, whether in a rebuild or not. We have not been a genuine contender since 2013, that's 11 long seasons ago and it has become a habit to accept mediocrity.

Maybe you're right, I'm certainly not putting the house on Manly winning the comp next year.
It's not impossible but, but... i'll wait and see if we make any decent signings.

I get the sentiment Ralphie but it's not about accepting mediocrity. Like any other business out there you live or die by the quality of your decision making. If you look back over the last 11 years there have been were some really poor decisions made by our club and our coaches. There are several clangers I can sight but the worst imo was releasing Api in 2019 and putting all our bets on Manase. The former is still (arguably) the best hooker in the game while the latter is still in jail. I don't think we have yet recovered from this one big mistake and as a result, we have not had a competent hooker since 2019. This today is still one of the biggest issues within our team. I can sight several other howler decisions over those same years but not sure it will soothe the pain of bowing out of this years finals. If there is mediocrity it's with our decision making and judgement.

When did what coaches say in the post-game presser become so important?

They’re already stifled from truly speaking their minds when the ref or bunker makes a howler with the threat of a fine.

Ricky Stuart has commented from every extreme in his pressers, from trying to evoke sympathy for his players, to calling an opposition player a weak gutted dog, to throwing his players under the bus - has that resulted in Canberra doing well?

Robinson whinges about how unfair it all is on his players & is ridiculed on here (& no doubt other fan forums) for it.

Bennett only answers the questions he wants to & is very careful with what he says, & is widely respected for it.

Has anyone ever thought that Seibold might be professional enough not to react emotionally at these pressers & just says generic stuff to meet the NRL’s requirements of answering media questions, & say what he really thinks & wants to behind closed doors, to the people it really concerns (i.e. the players & staff)?

I honestly don’t understand how vital what he says, how he says it & his body language while he says it is to some people?

When you have the 5th or 6th best roster, believe it or not, it is acceptable to come 5th or 6th.

Given your incredibly high personal standards hopefully, you can get in touch with Mestrov and Seibold and help them to recruit the number 1 roster in the game

At the time Fainu was better than Api, it's not the club's fault that the bloke made a string of fantastically moronic decisions that night and ruined his career in the process.

It IS the club's fault, to some extent, for sticking with the Croker at 9 experiment. It's not working and it's long past time that they realised that fact.

It was the clubs fault to continue supporting Manase despite what was clear and overwhelming legal evidence of his guilt. We had no recognised hooker throughout this whole legal episode (2-3 years) and we still have no recognised hooker today. I would classify all that as really poor judgment.

The expectation ( by some ) that the only way the coach gets a renewal is to win a GF is ludicrous.

Year 1, after inheriting Des’s team 100% , we ran 13th

Year 2, after having a fair input into the team and making quite a few changes we finish 6th ( week 2 of the finals ).

That in anyone’s language is a pretty good improvement.

Year 3, there will be “ some changes “ on a squad front , although I doubt it’ll be any big name players. To me the aim is a top 4 finish , and if we achieve that , anything is possible.

The bottom line between Seibold being seen as a good coach based on finishing 6th to having every single Silvertail supporter placing him on a throne is simply 3 key positions
Thing is, during club games we got away with it, even against the best teams as the intensity is often only simmering, where come finals when the intensity jumps sky high and these bandaids come off and the top teams will exploit them - as Roosters did.
Not going to bag or single out players as all imo had a red hot dig and never help up the white flag.....I just hope we can find answers in the off season as will compete with anyone if we find a way to improve and strengthen these few areas

Every side has a bad day , but the top sides are just consistent.

That’s what we lack.

You never know what they are going to serve up , a win against the side running first ✅ followed by a loss against the team running last ✅

That’s the frustration we all have.

I agree it was a bad day Mark
Unlucky early KO's...some "strange" calls and just didn't bounce our way....I get that and agree - however......
My point is we have a few weaknesses in our side the other 3-4 top sides don't have and unfortunately, just my opinion, but ANY of the remaining finalists would have exploited these weaknesses in the high octane finals style footy, maybe even more so then Roosters did....but again, just my opinion mate.

You mean like we did in the past, ok then.
