Taufua Shot

He still deserves his spot in our side. Big hard runs out of our end and always imposing on close to the line. His effort to score couldn’t have been done by many other wingers.

I think his bad decisions in defence tonight were mainly due to Walker being out of position. The felt try from the kick would have happened to most defenders.

I’m still a fan and his hands have been great this season.

Great shot, but I stand by my half time assessment.

Wingers need to keep their width, especially against amazing finishers like Oates and Feldt. I would assume this fact is a given.

I agree that the winger follows the centre most of the time, and Des does love an up and in defence, heard it all before, but this season is time for both Jorge and Walker in Manly colours.

Horge is doing exactly what Des has been telling him to do...all year and has been GREAT. He made possibly more small, valuable contributions than most others tonight.
He got 1 point from me in the MVP stakes behind AFB and Kapow because of them. Sorry Jake, you were real Manly.

Walker? Won't hold a defensive plan and is a "me" player generally. Suli killed him tonight. Gone for that kind of money IMHO.

Perhaps you should go & show him how it’s done especially in the midst of battle ..

Walker needs to turn things around big time or I will be happily clapping as he's shown the door. Garbage output since he's returned from his "exile". Not enough to be grateful he is back and able to play, still comes across as a self-entitled self-absorbed prat. Daly M award is a long way past. Can't keep living on those past glories, eventually it wears out.

Lol ok.
Pointing out that a winger should keep his width against great finishers, such as the man he was marking in Feldt, should be the coaches job.

As per my original statement, it is hard, given Walkers wont to play up and in, and Des also likes this style of defence.

Not sure exactly what you want from me. I've given opinion, explained why the player in question does what he does, put the onus on the coach to give said player better direction against certain players.....short of taking Des's job, I'm not sure what you want ?.

Maybe I could do a Brandon Stark and warg into Tafuas body ?

It was a great shot and I think he's playing well this year.

Also, it looked like on one of the replays he said sorry or 'you ok' to the guy he just hammered.

-lol

It is all a matter of timing with Walker and Taufua

The coming in cost us in the first half when they got their timing wrong, and in the 2nd half they got the timing correct, and cut off 2-3 opportunities for the cowboys, most notably when Walker came in and smoked Asiata just as he received the ball when they had a big overlap

Agree. Those calling for Elliot to take his spot underestimate Taufua’s tough hit ups in at the start of sets and his strong finishing

Exactly. And as someone else pointed out you need some X factor out wide as well as simply bring solid. Solid might get the job done adequatdly during the year but in big games against top opposition you need players who can break open a game out wide.

Take Walker out and other than Turbot where does out penetrstion come from. Suli and Parker hsve done a great job but the reality is between them I think they have scored about 10 tries in the NRl over 3 or 4 seasons, Suli in particular , despite his barnstorming runs just can’t seem to score.i think he’s scored one or two tries at Manly .Doesnt mean both aren’tplaying very well , because they have done their job admirably , but three quarters are also expected to score tries.

The young Cronulla kid Xerri is a classic example. Some of his errors both in attack and defence are absolutely mind boggling ( like dropping the ball with line wide open against us) but generally give him some space and it’s over. Sometimes you need to take the good with the bad.Latrell Mitchell has serious defensive issues but you can bet the roosters won’t be getting rid of him to reserve grade.
Walker will improve both with time and when he gets back on the right and to get rid of him to Blacktown is crazy given our lack of attacking penetration out wide.
And Des loves the guy. He won’t be playing reserve grade.

It’s easy to criticise a player when you’re not the one involved in the actual act of playing. I’m not talking a shot at you mate. I know it’s your opinion & I respect that but on occasion I do get tired reading negative comments about this player & that player. Taufua, Walker, Sironen, Garrick, API seem to cop a lot of criticism yet Tom T can have a shocker & everyone makes excuses for him. As for my opinion.....I hope both Taufua & Walker stay in Manly colours for a long time!

In Walkers defence he hasn't had a settled spine around him since his return.
Now that DCE is back and TT looks to have recovered I feel we may start to see some better games from him. When given some space and time he can do great things.
Like with TT back even tonight the opposite defenders hung back whenever he was about because great players scare defences. Walker when on it does just that.

Mate .... It's like trying to teach evolution to Alabama school kids ..... a waste of time ...

I was thinking Taufua should have been dropped for Elliott, but how I was wrong! Walker at this stage is most definitely the one that needs to be dropped, particularly once Brad Parker returns. He may be able to do a few good things in attack but his poor defensive reads leave so many gaps..

LOL - how slow was Horhay when he picked up that loose ball ?? I love the guy but gee he'd have to be the slowest, least match aware winger in the comp.
