Suggesting paycuts mid-contract

I think the best of DCE is yet to come, and when he hits his peak he will look cheap.

As Foran said, halves tend to get better as their careers go on (and that would be true for Foran too if he didn’t have a broken body).
 
Top CEO john walks into your office and says ' mate... we know your one of the best at what you do and have a family living in one of the most expensive cities in the world but look.... there are a couple of young guys on the mail room who we know are going to be amazing we need to lock then up long term... that's not so much the issue but you know jimmy and cath in HR and finance we would like to keep them so could you take a pay cut so we can keep them'?

And if this was a real situation I gaurentee that all of you on here would say NO. get off the pulpit and honestly answer. Even if you entertained the idea because your a good bloke or lass you go home to the the other half and what's their answer? You know the truth....

Thing is the game is now a business. DCE gets what the market determines as his value....

If he were to turn around and take a cut his legacy would be bulletproof but he shouldn't be put in that position....
 
And another thing. Some on here have compared value of smith and DCE... you talk about DCE needing this or that to be successful...

If Smith had have played his career at the Goldcoast without Slater, cronk, Inglis etc etc etc would his misses get a diamond ring? I dont think so....

DCE is back to career best form because of Hasler and structure.... that is all....

Damn right I’d say no. I can’t stand Jimmy or Cath. I’d be glad to see the back of em.

Let’s not forget Dce, Jake and Tom pushed hard to keep Trent as coach
Call it loyalty or whatever, but wiser heads selected Des as coach for the greater good of “all” the players in the team ....and look what’s happened

Hes only worth 800k - 900k a season he is not our best player but i cant disagree with your other points. Turbo is clearly our best player, last year dce was horrid until that origin game. Clearly not worth 1.3mil. Imo no player is worth 1 million a season bar turbo teddy or sheck as these guys are match winners and freaks of the game. They put bums on seats!
 
Its watershed moments like these that can pull a squad apart or galvanize them. Players resigning are taking pay cuts. If DCE wants to take a pay cut to free up salary cap space its just a matter of a variation of contract. Whether he should or not is a different question and that is a matter for him. I agree that he will have a greater legacy if he finishes his career in a successful team for which he has made scarifies to keep together. In my mind its not about his value as he is worth what a team is prepared to pay.

I disagree that fullbacks are the most valuable to a team. The halves run the show and have more pressure plays to deal with every set. Tommy as good as he is isn’t kicking those field goals in golden point or even kicking deep when we need it. DCEs kicking game isn’t the best in the game but it’s bloody close.
 
I reakon 1 mill should be max for any player. They can get extra from tpa's. Thought dce's kicking game was much better last week. Hope he keeps it up.

No they didn't ... they selected Maquire ... but he told them you're joking and went to Tigers .... Dessie was never on Penn's radar until the last minute .. and even then I believe he was brought kicking and screaming to the table by Gorman ... Thank goodness ...

Going to throw a wild one and say we beat the raider by 30 this weekend. That would put the fox in the chicken shed all right for all those experts out there....

But as I recall many hated the idea
From memory wasn’t the forum pulling for Toovey, Mquire etc etc

The handling of his contract was a farce, but it wasn't DCE's doing. Cherry was all set to re-sign in 2014 for just $750,000 per year. Then the club pulled the offer and put all their eggs into the "Keep Foran" basket (thanks to the influence of a certain few) and allowed Cherry to look elsewhere, which he did. The problem was that after Gifty's poor contract offer forced him out of Manly, Foran decided he wanted out as well and was following Choc to the Worms, but he still negotiated with Manly. Then, shock horror, just a week after Cherry announced he had signed with the Titans, Foran comes out and basically says "Sorry, I'm off to Doesn't-matta". Basically, Foz led the club up the garden path because he was pissed with the offer to Gifty that saw him leave.

Manly literally had to sit back and say "$hit, we're losing BOTH of our international halves". And with Foran's mind made up, and it being known that DCE preferably would have stayed at Brookvale, the club had to scramble and try and get Cherry to stay. But to do so they had to match the Titans $1m contract and then some. And I can't blame DCE for that.

Cherry ended up costing Manly almost double what they had originally offered him all because the club got it massively wrong.

Maybe most fullbacks but turbo teddy and sheck are on another level. We all see how much better dce plays with turbo out the back, he comes alive! Sheck literally carries the warriors and teddy is the best player in the world. The rest i can concur but the fb is the most potent attacking weapon. And yes dce kicking game is one of the best when hes on.

If fullback's aren't that important.....then why despite the teams we had 10 or so years ago did our chances of winning a game seem to take a nosedive every time Snake got injured?
 
On the fullback note watching one of the other nrl games the other day where the No.1 ran for 98m... imaging that.... having a fullback that only ran for 98 meters in a game... how lucky are we?
