ahhhh ABC Grandstand footy on the radio..good times

That they were, funny to think back and look at those days, living in the bush we had black and white TV, and I had to bug my Dad for the radio on a Saturday arvo if Manly played.......we had one radio in the house!!

Great life for a kid, horses, motorbikes, old 4WD's to bash around the paddocks, and an old unregistered car to drive to and from my mates places via the " black track" beside the highway (funnily enough the coppers used to turn a blind eye to it as long as you didn't venture on the main road) BUT the negative was very very little Manly information.

My Dad used to get the SMH on Sundays (we have to drive 40Kms round trip to get it), and I'd have to wait for him to finish it before getting my hands on the sports section.

Kids today have no bloody idea of what it was like back then!!

These days Mark the SMH sports section doesn't cover up-to-date results. It is a shadow of its former self, and the paper will not survive.

From the ever reliable Sporting News:

We told you some time ago that Manly were eager to snap up Kiwi International and Penrith forward Suia Matagi.

And now we can tell you the deal is done and the only reason it took the Sea Eagles so long to secure, was because Parramatta made a last-ditch play for the hard-running prop.

"No cap Parramatta" trying to white-ant us at every turn.

Brilliant post

They should change their name to SMS Sydney Morning Socialist. When they close down they will all get jobs at the ABC thanks to the taxpayer.
hahahahaha
Sorry I usually think of a comment but this time you've obviated the need for comment

It was much better / simpler back then ........

with all our front row stocks ... i think our philosophy will be ....... if your not bleeding, knocked out or busted..... then your not running hard enough

plenty of depth and room for DCE to weave some magic

i get a feeling Manlys gonna get reallllll aggressive in 2017:)

Still remember when I couldn't get to a game in the 70's, you would listen to Frank Hyde and be hanging on the score updates from around the ground. Not like now, the score updates are AFL results. What has happened. Simpler times, definitely.
And, you had as I remember, on the radio, you had, 2SM, 2UE, 2KY, 2GB, 2KA & 2BL all calling games and for us in Sydney, you had enough time to get across Sydney from watching a game to get home to watch the TV replay in the evening. Bring back the Amco Cup as well. Player welfare, omg.

Yes bring back the Amco Cup but please no Ray Warren this time, I can't stand his gibberish and have always hated the way he calls all the players by their first names like they're all his mates, I'll shout the pub the day he finally retires.

Spot on Ron. He is painful. Greg, Billy, Cameron he frustrates me no end. He is never critical of the top players.
