no surprises there, a leopard won't change his stripes, especially when the leopard is a Cnut

leopards don't have stripes though

I think he means Tiger, the correct quote is a "Tiger won't change his stripes".
Leopards used to have stripes, but changed to spots. As for Slater, I agree the media are complicit in his dupliciousness  🙂

Total slime. Reminds me of the stoush many years ago between Mario Fenech and Ben Elias. Benny was reputed to have told Mario that his brother was a great electrician. (He had recently died in an electrical related accident.) Mario was sent for trying to punch his lights out in a scrum. Pity he didn't succeed and Slater is in the same league as Elias.
not quite right cw
apparently benny was makin a buzzing like sound effect similar to when someone is elecrticuted

Surprise!!!

NRL chief operating officer Graham Annesley said no action will be taken against Slater following his public apology.

"The NRL has since noted the public apology from Billy Slater, which follows a private apology issued to Cory Patterson yesterday," Annesley said in a statement.

"Given those events no further action will be taken. This is, however, a reminder that players can be accountable for what is said on the field.

"While there is always rivalry in the heat of battle there are any number of areas of comment that can see a player facing a further sanction."

Anyone else....out of the then game for god knows how long...the "Golden Child"....he gets off scott free.

As always one rule for Melbourne and it's players and another rule for everyone else....oh how the NRL must have squirmed on the 40-0 day!!

No I thought he was more just simple chaos and panic? As for Slater, what public apology? Anyone know what he said?

The version I've always heard and believed was Benny went to the first scrum and said "I hear your brother is a bright spark".... They're all basically the same anyway. The message was clear, an extremely low act.
I wonder how long Hoppa would have been given?

BTW, thank you Fro.

Slater was just on the Today show - he got congratulated by the intellectual heavy weight Karl S for apologizing (as well as saying he was disappointed that what he said had come out in the media...)

in other words the prick only went the mea culpa when he got caught.

"I'm not sorry for what I did, only sorry I got caught"

Someone in the Manly team should go and say the exact same thing to Paterson on Saturday night.  That way when they are suspended for 6 weeks every will see the double standards to Slater.

Not really.  There would be a 6 week suspension but the NRL and the media buddies would say they had warning it was not on.  Though one would think common sense would have suggested to Billy Boy sledging about depression is beyond the pale.  The only problem with common sense though is that it's not common.

Beyond the blue even. Of course this would not have been an issue only a few years ago, and increasing awareness of mental illnesses such as depression is a positive thing. But the NRL have missed an opportunity to raise actual understanding. The message they are sending is simply 'don't sledge mental illness' without really saying why. Same as with the racism one, it is 'don't do it' ...and that's all (ie don't get caught in public). At least G Hughes on talkin Sport said to one of his callers, 'What if Paterson reacted to the gibe by relapsing into depression?'

If you look at the comments in the Daily Tele on this story, there are a lot of knuckle heads trotting out the "harden up" line.  Personally I hope they get a dose of it so they can be a bit more empathetic and reflective in future.
