Story: Storm brewing as Melbourne rewrite history

Melb were made an example of, they are only guilty of being dumb enough to get caught.

"In my opinion" a few clubs were at,near or even surpassed the levels of the Storm and one club probably instigated/fueled the explosion in wages at the time.

Just the Seoul Olympics or Tour de France.

Have always been Murdoch's team.

And as revolting as that disgraceful human.

I have been saying it for 30 years, the day that **** dies will be a great day for the world but this in particular this country.

Ah the classic apologist argument for cheating. Yes they were so unlucky, they just were so dumb and naive and guileless, strictly amateurs of course in the big bad business world of modern league. Just a poor new club, they were probably getting by on being managed by volunteers who worked all day in blue collar jobs and by night held the club together with chook raffles and selling sausage sandwiches at the games.
Oh no ....hang on, now I remember ....they were actually owned by ... NEWS LTD!
Seriously, that you defend them does nothing at all for your credibility I'm afraid, not that you'd be bothered by that at all as you have quite a hearty contempt for traditional league values, it seems.

Scumos are the spawn of Super League and all the wrestle that has diminished the great game of rugby league 😎

The fawning and favouritism by NRLHQ is blatant and they should not be allowed to hide behind the 'expansion into AFL areas' spin

And there is what this is really all about with the NRL and Melbourne. They are the only NRL team located in an AFL dominated city, the actual heart of the AFL's territory no less. And a successful NRL team in Melbourne is a very big bragging rights thing. They continue to get a free ride from the league, even to that point that despite this year being their 22nd year in the competition.....not one of there junior teams is located in Melbourne, let alone Victoria. All of their "juniors" come through their affiliates in the Qld Cup (Easts Tigers and Sunshine Coast).

Seriously, I know the standard of NRL Victoria. If the Storm had to get their juniors from that competition.....they would rarely be out of the bottom 4, more likely bottom 2. And that is bad for business. Apparently.

Question. What would happen if Manly and the Worms presented themselves as the real 2007 and 2009 NRL Premiers? How long would the NRL let that go on??

It’s pretty appalling that the NRL is allowing that logo on the jerseys of Scam and his mates.

They blatantly cheated the cap and had a severe punishment laid down by the NRL.

Either the NRL were too harsh with that original call or that are soft now. Either way it goes to show you how inept they are with their decisions.

I for one think only the Broncos cheat more than the Storm did. The whole Thoroughbreds thing is an effing joke that is so shrouded in hypocrisy, it baffles me how this at “arms length”.

They weren't hard enough IMO. The players should have been made to give back the rings at the very least. Unfortunately that comes back to the "protect the players, they were innocent victims" BS. Innocent my arse. Boat's, fully paid for home renovations, players (including Smith) knowingly signing 2 separate contracts. They and Bellamy were up to their necks in it.

Wonderful ... the old "but others were doing it justification" ... the last resort of the morally bankrupt ... and the first defence of the Intellectually deficient .....

Very simple solution. April next year is the tenth anniversary of the Storm's salary cap scandal breaking cover. On that day, John Quayle who should replace Peter Beattie as ARL Chief Commissioner should retrospectively award the 2007 Grand Final to Manly and even the 2009 premiership to Parramatta. It is an unfairish solution to the problem, but awarding trophies and rings to players involved will help shut the Storm up. I will cheer deserving players such as Mona's, Chris Hicks and Willo. Not to mention the immortal Jack Afamasagna. Oh and Fui Fui for the squeels. Sounds fair to me.

Where in professional sport when a player or team are found to be cheating isn't the aggrieved player or team awarded an 'upgrade' to their runners up position?

In the Olympics if someone is found doping even years in the past the athlete that missed out is awarded the position whether that be gold silver or bronze.

Should have been the same for the scummos. We deserved that 2007.

But I guess that would have made us the first back to back so the NRL couldn't have that could they?
