When I reflect on our current team, and assuming everybody is available, I think it still lacks in leadership direction, despite the talent on paper and the ability to beat anybody on their day. Perhaps we need to be looking out for this type of player to come in (I guess it's the old BK-type role?)

To recap - this was sent to the video ref and the video ref checked to see if Addo was behind Munster. Munster didn't kick it though, Smith did, and both Addo and Munster are comfortably in front of Smith.

The nein commentators including Fatty were crapping on about speed, and had no idea.

Replaying at 25% speed, it appears JAC's rear foot is in line with Smith kicking, but his front foot appears in front. Difficult to be definitive due to the camera angle. Will Annesley look at it?

It seems to me that Addo is in front by a long way when the ball leaves Smith's boot. That means he is offside right? If I'm wrong about the rule then so be it, but it means I've been wrong about the offside rule for 40 years then.

He is certainly not behind the kicker when the ball is kicked.

And why did the video ref make the point that he was behind munster?

(Ok I'll move on - no use going crazy over yet another inexplicable NRL situation)

I think I get it now - Addo wasn't as offside as Munster, and he is really really fast, so it deserves to be a try. Anyway the manly fullback was out of position so we can overlook the basics of the offside rule.

Also Melbourne please help yourselves to six again for the next 3 sets of six. Manly has shown a little bit of enterprise in the first 20 minutes, we must tire them out asap and extinguish any hope.

One thing I noticed yesterday was TWICE Manly had attacking scrums centrefield and TWICE the storm gave away penalties from the scrum for being way offside to defuse a dangerous attacking situation. Storm concede a penalty on the first tackle, slows the play, allows the defence to reset, and it's only the first tackle anyway & it's no penalty really.

Manly faced with the same situation sat back the full 10m and the Storm scored a try off the scrum.

Why are we so naive to simple tactics these days ??? This isn't the Des Hasler I remember.

I agree but we did have a few thinkers back when Des was memorable - Killer, Foran, Ballan, Skivy and the Stewarts for starters

I bagged DCE a fair bit yesterday. To be honest I'd had a few beers & another loss with little effort from the team wound me up. In the cold light of day & with the benefit of sobriety I reckon it was a fair call.. 🙂 I know he can dish up better than that rubbish. I'm backing him to do better next week.
