Storm: Best Club Side Ever

The suggestion that this Storm team is the best ever just can not be taken seriously .Certainly would rate quite well in a historical sense but just too many high performance and quality premiership teams from all past eras to even contemplate that they could even be considered the best ever . No doubt most Storm teams in recent times or this era have been well coached and drilled . well resourced , and well assembled units but the previously mentioned and pertinent reality is that any one of the other 7 team finalists could have realistically made the G F and which did indicate that the overall and other team finalist "s playing strength and quality just was not there this season . Also the Storm"s ' win at all cost ' - coaching and playing style mentality may predominately soon run it"s course , as trying to instigate and rely on such objectionable and totally unsporting , even illegal like or type tactics must eventually have a limit, and all things being normal . Of course also , their previous obscene and blatant cap cheating will always be a stain and blight on the code .

Our 95,96,97 sides were better. Bozo was better than Bellamy then too, we lost 3 games in 95 when there were the superstar un-salary capped teams like Brisbane, Raiders, Dogs who had players like Lamb, Pay, Dymock, Stuart, Daley, Langer, Walters etc. Manly completely dominated all those superstar teams and players in 95 and 96. The talent these days is nowhere near that standard. Just like Melbourne in 2016 we lost in 95 and then smashed it in 96. The only thing they have had is a charmed run with minimal injuries to key players, injuries have always happened to one player at a time at the Storm and never to Cameron Smith. This is the same charmed injury run that have seen QLD dominate in origin. It will probably be found to be some kind of cutting edge not yet banned peptides in years to come. They were also able to keep their best emerging talent together in the early years due to salary cap rorting. All whilst developing pretty much zero local juniors and signing the best young talent from QLD. Oh and our feeder club that developed DCE, Foran and others when we were on top, the same one we were forced to get rid of by the NSWRL is now the Storms feeder club. The former Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles. They are cheats and they are convicted cheats. We were never cheats.

So no I don't think the Storm are the greatest.

All their dominance proves is that the NRL Salary Cap punishments are too soft.

They are the Lance Armstrong of the NRL.
Just a slight correction to your comment, Foran didn't play for the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles. You must be getting him mixed up with Hodkinson like Bearfax did a couple of weeks back with one of his Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles related comments in the 'Tom Wright: Where do you put him?' thread

Whilst it can never happen, can you imagine the Storm playing one of the best sides from the 70's? The styles of play are completely different but anyone of those sides from the seventies would not tolerate those wrestling tactics & would belt the living tripe out of the Storm if they tried. Cliff Watson, Terry Randall or Malcolm Reilly would beat them to death. Then imagine if the St George side of the 60's could be coached by Bellamy today. They would possibly walk all over the current Storm outfit. I guess we will never know.....
What is not to say the Storm players wouldn't belt back not fearing an automatic suspension or sending off.

The scoreline would be 20-0 after 10mins before the rough stuff would come out anyway.

In a recent finals game,
Ray Warren mentioned a number of times the '78 Manly team & their toughness to go on to win.
Like him or not, he's seen a lot of footy.

Fair play Jethro you are correct, it was Hodgo not Foran. Foran came straight from our 20’s. We did still produce quite a lot of talent out of the sunny coast. Which club did Matai come out of?

Team Drizzle lead by Scam Smith and Bellyache proved that this year they were much better than everyone. In comparing the great sides. Our 78 team would more than match them simply through skill and sheer courage. Our mid-90s team was a better defensive team than the squall and there are other great teams who would challenge them in a big way.

The love in that we see right now for them is pretty sickening. This is a club who founded their success on cheating and pushing the rules of fair play to the limit.

You can admire the big 3 they have for their endurance and the stability they have given them. Of the three the only one to me that is palatable is Cronk, who is a true gentleman on and off the field. I admire Slaters athleticism and ability to sniff out a try but its tempered by his win and all costs attitude that we see time and time again when the red mist takes over and he transgresses, Scam Smith is the ultimately protected species in the game who has made it an art form to control on-field refereeing, they truly are in his pocket.

It does seem ironic that most big calls in games go their way. The grand final was pretty much done after try one was allowed even though there was evidence a referee got in the way of the Cows defender and in the lead up to try 2 there was a clear knock on allowed to go.

In the modern era, this team is allowed to do as it pleases as they fully know that retaliation is dealt with very severely, Scam Smith and his cronies would not have lasted five minutes in the 70s with their tactics of grappling and wrestling and niggling. Heck, I am from a different era but I grew up seeing a tough game played by men who didn't take a backward step.

The modern game is a different one and officials like Greenturd have watered down the fabric of what made the game so good.

If you are only talking Q Cup then we got him from the Wynnum Manly Seagulls but prior to that, he was with the Ipswich Jets.

Manlys 2008 side is the best they **** on melbournes best ever who were 2 million over the cap .. Israel folau , ingliss you name it they had em 40 nil 1987 & 1996 wld both give em a touch up as well..

This year's Storm side is pretty good, very strong across the park and I reckon they would compete well with great sides of the past.

Wouldn't mind having a guy like Tohu Harris. This guy would be tough enough to play in any era.
