Storm: Best Club Side Ever

Look they won the comp in a canter, they include some tremendous players plus a lot of top line players, so sure, they are among the top 20 or 30 of all time, I guess.
Best coach ever--- tick
Best spine ever--- tick
Best analyzing of other teams---tick
Best overall team talent/abilities---No

In saying that, the best Melb teams and their best performances throughout the last decade would beat every single team created in history.

Each generation gap will improve on the past so it really is a pointless debate.

Even Phil Rothfield is claiming all of Sydney now love Cameron Smith & that he has changed his mind too. Short term memory syndrome with many journalists.

FMD, not me, I admire what he has done but that’s it, the Scam lovefest is getting more sickening by the day.

Can you imagine when he eventually retires!

Stick me on the vomitron for 6 months prior!

Todd will take him on as his protégé when he finishes footy. Next head of the NRL. I can see it coming.

Whilst it can never happen, can you imagine the Storm playing one of the best sides from the 70's? The styles of play are completely different but anyone of those sides from the seventies would not tolerate those wrestling tactics & would belt the living tripe out of the Storm if they tried. Cliff Watson, Terry Randall or Malcolm Reilly would beat them to death. Then imagine if the St George side of the 60's could be coached by Bellamy today. They would possibly walk all over the current Storm outfit. I guess we will never know.....

To me its like the Snake vs Wombat debate as Manly's greatest fullback. Its only opinion and there can be no definitive answer regardless of how many facts and figures people can come up with either way. Some will say Snake, some will say Wombat. Both were very different players to each other. Snake was all about speed and skill while Wombat was all about power, the guy was a front rower in a second rowers body playing fullback. But both were equally important to the teams they played in and both played very big parts in the successes of those teams.

The reality is that no one can prove that Melbourne 2017 is better than Manly 1996 or Canberra 1990 or Parramatta 1982 or St George 1963 or any other team that has ever won the premiership. They can only give their opinion and you know what they say about opinions.....

I have the utmost respect for Belly Ache. He is a great coach. He takes no bodies and makes them stars and has withstood the test of time. But let's not utter that word Sport.

After watching that grand final more then any other, in which the Storm were just over the top with unsportsmanlike plays.

I speak of the holding down of players down in the ruck with chicken wings, head crushes and just Holding the head on the ground. The trapping of players arms with the ball in tackles so they can't defend themselves when their necks are headed to the turf or prevent themselves being rolled on their backs.

Are these plays with in the rules? Well some yes. And some they deliberately walked a fine line.

We're the Storm clinical in executing these plays and did it win the Storm the ruck and the game? yes.

Is it sport and should this be part of our game? Its a resounding No for me.

This storm team and the words best ever should never appear in the same sentence.

It was clinical but as unsportsmanlike as the Poms during body line. Some things may be within the rules and have won those cheating poms the ashes.

But history will similarly show this storm team is similarly a champion disgrace to the GAME.

Our 95,96,97 sides were better. Bozo was better than Bellamy then too, we lost 3 games in 95 when there were the superstar un-salary capped teams like Brisbane, Raiders, Dogs who had players like Lamb, Pay, Dymock, Stuart, Daley, Langer, Walters etc. Manly completely dominated all those superstar teams and players in 95 and 96. The talent these days is nowhere near that standard. Just like Melbourne in 2016 we lost in 95 and then smashed it in 96. The only thing they have had is a charmed run with minimal injuries to key players, injuries have always happened to one player at a time at the Storm and never to Cameron Smith. This is the same charmed injury run that have seen QLD dominate in origin. It will probably be found to be some kind of cutting edge not yet banned peptides in years to come. They were also able to keep their best emerging talent together in the early years due to salary cap rorting. All whilst developing pretty much zero local juniors and signing the best young talent from QLD. Oh and our feeder club that developed DCE, Foran and others when we were on top, the same one we were forced to get rid of by the NSWRL is now the Storms feeder club. The former Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles. They are cheats and they are convicted cheats. We were never cheats.

So no I don't think the Storm are the greatest.

All their dominance proves is that the NRL Salary Cap punishments are too soft.

They are the Lance Armstrong of the NRL.

And they also have Frank Ponissi who was the guy behind Bozo at Manly during our dominance. It is probably Frank who is behind all of this and not Bellamy.
