I think the Storm look good because 2017 was the weakest comp in recent memory.
Let's face it - in what other year would a team missing 2 players the calibre of Thurston and Scott make the GF?
Totally spot on!!

Just a slight correction to your comment, Foran didn't play for the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles. You must be getting him mixed up with Hodkinson like Bearfax did a couple of weeks back with one of his Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles related comments in the 'Tom Wright: Where do you put him?' threadOur 95,96,97 sides were better. Bozo was better than Bellamy then too, we lost 3 games in 95 when there were the superstar un-salary capped teams like Brisbane, Raiders, Dogs who had players like Lamb, Pay, Dymock, Stuart, Daley, Langer, Walters etc. Manly completely dominated all those superstar teams and players in 95 and 96. The talent these days is nowhere near that standard. Just like Melbourne in 2016 we lost in 95 and then smashed it in 96. The only thing they have had is a charmed run with minimal injuries to key players, injuries have always happened to one player at a time at the Storm and never to Cameron Smith. This is the same charmed injury run that have seen QLD dominate in origin. It will probably be found to be some kind of cutting edge not yet banned peptides in years to come. They were also able to keep their best emerging talent together in the early years due to salary cap rorting. All whilst developing pretty much zero local juniors and signing the best young talent from QLD. Oh and our feeder club that developed DCE, Foran and others when we were on top, the same one we were forced to get rid of by the NSWRL is now the Storms feeder club. The former Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles. They are cheats and they are convicted cheats. We were never cheats.
So no I don't think the Storm are the greatest.
All their dominance proves is that the NRL Salary Cap punishments are too soft.
They are the Lance Armstrong of the NRL.
What is not to say the Storm players wouldn't belt back not fearing an automatic suspension or sending off.Whilst it can never happen, can you imagine the Storm playing one of the best sides from the 70's? The styles of play are completely different but anyone of those sides from the seventies would not tolerate those wrestling tactics & would belt the living tripe out of the Storm if they tried. Cliff Watson, Terry Randall or Malcolm Reilly would beat them to death. Then imagine if the St George side of the 60's could be coached by Bellamy today. They would possibly walk all over the current Storm outfit. I guess we will never know.....
Fair play Jethro you are correct, it was Hodgo not Foran. Foran came straight from our 20’s. We did still produce quite a lot of talent out of the sunny coast. Which club did Matai come out of?Just a slight correction to your comment, Foran didn't play for the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles. If you are only talking Q Cup then we got him from the Wynnum Manly Seagulls but prior to that, he was with the Ipswich Jets.Fair play Jethro you are correct, it was Hodgo not Foran. As Steve Waugh once said "history tends to make past players better than they really were" or something along those lines. In a recent finals game,
Ray Warren mentioned a number of times the '78 Manly team & their toughness to go on to win.
Like him or not, he's seen a lot of footy.
Our 08 side is the best
