State of Origin Game III (2017)

Sydney Morning Herald ....
And this with no Thurston. No Greg Inglis. No Darius Boyd. No Matt Scott. No chance? Not on your life. This is Queensland. They're never dead, even though some will argue Origin. Not even when a dynasty's foundations are going. Or gone. Or on their last legs. Or blooding umpteen rookies. They're always alive.

I understand what you are saying and you have made some good points . The point I was trying to make is that Queensland have developed a great football culture and that is admirable .

It's probably got a lot more to do with their players - particularly the spine - coming from only a handful of clubs, as well as the fact they have been playing together in rep sides for years, than any sort of mysterious 'culture'.

Case in point - look at how many times Jake went to throw one of his passes to an inside runner last night, and there was either nobody there, or they weren't properly positioned (put Tommy in the team - or numerous other Manly players - and he hits the mark more often than not). Compare that with the offloads Qld threw - several involving the Melbourne Mafia passing it amongst themselves - that's familiarity, not 'culture'.

When you're only having to slot in a random winger here and a prop there into an established team, all you really have to do is teach those guys what job you want them to do in the team. NSW have random, cobbled-together players all over the field, trying to make a coherent system out of them (and almost every player having to 'adapt' to it) not a few ancillaries slotting into an established club system, most of them not having to adapt their club football at all (the Scum's, in Qlds case).

No surprise that NSW had more success in the Daley, Stuart, Clyde era, for example - a core of players from one club, who knew each other's games inside out.

Best origin series in years:
Only one Manly player selected and got through all games uninjured.
DCE widley recognised as best half in the comp.
Manly only lost one game ( must beat tigers sureley).
Thurston out for the year, several clubs with other injuries.
Myles joins melb.

Spine intact for 12 years, and more importantly they are from the one Club :!!:

NSW never had that luxury and is still not producing ball players 😎

Qld has benefited from Melbourne being allowed to keep an illegally-assembled team just as much as the Scum have...maybe more
So can someone tell me when this game is on?

Oh wait, thread is up to page 19, I think I must have missed it.

Damn, that's 14 games in 5 years I've missed, mustn't have the 'passion' or something, not sure what.

But let me guess how it went (from memories of 5 plus years ago). QLD gets early leg ups and consolidates on the momentum to take a double figure lead early on. NSW then playing catch up for the rest of the game whilst Pearce stars for them by kicking the ball down the throats of the QLD wingers and fullback , gifting them about a kilometre in metres gained over the course of the game?

I've said before and will say again, whilst ever you have the likes of Smith, Cronk, Thurston, Slater in one side they will always win.

Give them a set of forwards that perform ( even without Scott) and they will win every game.

Only reason we won game one, Myles and Lillyman, as soon as they were discarded NSW had no chance.

Game 1 2018, ( Cronk dependant) same QLD side , Glasby out , Scott in, doesn't matter who NSW pick, doesn't matter who the coach is, they are no ****ing chance!

NSW " might" get a sniff after most of the above have retired , until then not worth sacking Daley ( no coach will make a difference ), and maybe only change a player or two, Morris is past his due by date, how Vaughn missed out is beyond me.

No point making wholesale changes, it won't affect the end result.

Smith , Cronk, Slater will be 35 soon, they can't go on forever, they have some good players coming through to follow them but none with the abilities of this trio.

Also, given Thurston will be out for the rest of the year I would not at all be surprised to see him back for one final series.

Queensland have been blessed to have a team chock full of some of the greatest players we have ever seen, at least two of them certain to be immortals, and possibly four.

It's a bit like that great St George team of the 60's, 11 straight Premierships, when we're they ever going to be beaten.........simple, when they got old!

Just have to put this here. I was in tears reading it LOL

Someone put this on Mitchell Pearce's Wikipedia page :rofl::rofl:

"The playing future of Mitchell Pearce looks bright, with a possible shift to AFL after strong interest was shown from the GWS Giants and Sydney Swans. It is reported they were impressed with his ability to consistently hit the Queensland fullback and wingers on the chest with his 5th tackle kicks. The Wallabies are also desperate for his signature after he has demonstrated several traits inherent to Australian Rugby culture, such as losing important matches, missing tackles, getting bullied by his opponents, looking clueless in attack, and habitually disappointing his supporters on the big stage. Finally, it appears his movie star good looks will pay off. Directors are interested in Pearce replacing Rowan Atkinson for the upcoming ‘Johnny English 3’ due to his experience in somehow repeatedly getting selected in an important role despite seemingly being inept and incapable of performing it."

Read the rest of his page here. I think whoever edited it last doesn't like him. Just a hunch hehehe

funny . Mate he would never get a job as a green keeper because he doesn't know we're the grass is .

Here is an interesting statistic after last nights game.

NSW Wins:
Brett Morris - 4 From 15
Josh Dugan - 4 from 12
Jarryd Hayne - 9 from 23
James Maloney - 3 from 9
Mitchell Pearce - 5 from 18
Aaron Woods - 5 from 14
Andrew Fifita - 3 from 10
Boyd Cordner - 2 from 9
Josh Jackson - 3 from 9

The best winning percentage in Origin of that lot is Hayne at a whopping 39.1%. The lowest percent actually comes from the team captain Cordner with just 22.2%

Queensland wins:
Billy Slater - 18 from 29
Michael Morgan - 6 from 8
Dane Gagai - 5 from 7
Cooper Cronk - 16 from 22
Cameron Smith - 26 from 42
Matt Gillett - 11 from 18
Josh McGuire - 5 from 8
Josh Papalli - 7 from 9

The best percentage is Papalli with 77.7%. The worst is poor Matt Gillett with a measly 61.1%

I reckon Jesse Ventura should do a conspiracy theory show on the whole SOO thingy,if Qld had of lost this series the queeeenslaaaander fans would have bailed in droves, the first two games were choreographed and the last was the true ability of both teams.ALL FOR THE RATINGS .
I am dreading contact with maroons fans this week, but I will just duck and say we NSW supporters don't give a rats about SOO, ITS ALL IVE GOT

Maybe some of the N S W origin players should somehow try to harness some of the real passion and enthusiasm expressed by the Blue"s supporters on this forum, as i am sure that it would improve their future prospects . Also I think that the adage that i regularly heard during my footy career that most times a team can only play as well as the opposition allows them . Last night N S W allowed the Q L D team to dictate terms for the majority of the game and again Q L D had the experienced game breakers and competitive edge to outplay them. However every year is different and as future S O O matches no doubt will be as well . Also good to see a really positive sports article in my local Q L D regional newspaper recently and mentioning the three Trbojevic brothers being involved in recent S O O activities and the fact that the N SW 16"s had 5 junior sea eagles included. Just good positive publicity to illustrate some of the favorable culture present at the Manly club at the present time .

Ok , yes they had the spine
but .... They also had Scott, Inglis, Thurston Boyd etc etc etc out
Plus the Aging roster and with Queensland it was like age shall not weary them as they competed tirelessly against their younger NSW opponents and wore them out and out enthused them. This is the relentless spirit within that NSW don't believe exists .
We had the bigger and better pack and every one knows that forwards are the ones that lay the platform to win the big matches .
Before the match we were favourites . On Paper we had the superior team
Everyone except Queensland expected the Blues to win
How then do we explain not the loss but the total capitulation ???
It goes beyond Queensland's spine on the field .
It is about Queensland's relentless spirit
Nsw see this as a myth but as long as Queensland believe in them selves , they will just keep on prevailing and winning against the odds
We NSW had 12 years of excuses but we never seem to come up with the solutions
