some reputations enhanced!

So what could it do to dessies reputation. Time will tell

virtually a different team last night with new coaches and one game. Not comparing oranges but nice regardless as blacktown was pretty average

good prospects . nice hope. Absolutely. Nice crop of young players that des helped assemble

Curious
do some think that dessie threatened to drop players if they played with structure ?
always found that weird that professionals were only following a game plan that seemed pretty non existent

accountability was missing. Some fresh players on the fringe aiming up with attitude and effort wise is promising though and the competition is long overdue.

and they are all getting closer to first grade age and ability. Cap management probably decides if they all fulfill that potential at manly.
Yep we won’t be able to keep them all , which is sad

Woodsie what didn’t you see in Gordon that makes you think he might not make NRL? I thought he was terrific for a first gamer

Outstanding in my opinion , in fact think he’ll be pushing the Frog based on that .
All i know is a bad dummy half sticks out like a saw thumb with wayward passes, poor timing and breaking down plays. The fact we put 30 points on the board and won the match usually means the 9 did a decent job.

Agree , wouldn’t put him in the Harry Grant category just yet , but given his age I think he’s developing nicely !!

Stand outs

Tobby.... small but made a big impact
Myers... very classy centre
Fifita.... intimidating ball busting powerful runner
GKT.... a smart and dynamic running hooker
Vaega.... makes plenty of metres and scores plenty of tries
Fulton... Fort Knox in defence and always competitive

The rest did a an honourable job as well

Myers in the 3/4 line looks a keeper. He looks to have that typical white guy body at 19 years old (i say this only in comparison to some of the pasifika guys who develop much sooner).
Which is weird, because I think he has both Koori and Maori heritage.

He's tall and rangy, but looks to me to be a very well-balanced runner, with deceptive pace and swerve. Good hands as well, and was always trying to set up his supports. I liked him a lot.

Myers run to the corner passing back over his shoulder for Toby to score, shades of Robbo to Menzies in 08.

Never heard of him before last night but he played himself into the conversation. Unlucky to get concussed late, hopefully he's alright.

My take
*negative Tuipolotu defence issues could become costly and I don't see him as shoe in even given his yards run
  • Fletcher myers we have our centre to partner Koula. It really depends when they want to pull the trigger or put him into development for another 12 months.
  • Cooper Johns provides pretty good depth and he seems more than just a system player of storm. He going to be fine to step up if either Dce or Schu get injuried.
  • Gordy kid is pretty crafty and did not see any issues with his size many noted. Imo I see him in 17 by middle of year.
  • forward stand outs - Fainu big unit and no doubt see him in firsts soon. Fifta the same very big unit and mobile.
  • Ray Vaega - @BOZO your man Ray your right he has to be in round 1. Good finisher and hard to handle in defence. Made an error on bomb but looked good.
  • Bully - well sorry Des but look at him as a middle. It's his spot so much better. Ben turbo played good I still think he needs some time in seconds get some confidence will come good imo
Perfect summary mate
Every point I'm like bang on
And Bullemor MUST be a middle as he attacked powerfully through the guts with strong running, he does need more shoulder and less grabbing in defence is my only whinge....but I'm excited for 2023 knowing these boys will only look better amongst our Big guns !!

We’ve got a few gooduns coming through.

Myers wouldn’t be out of place at centre , now!

Fifita & Fainu will definitely be pushing those ahead of them in FG.

If the Schu doesn’t work at 5/8 , Cooper John’s is a ready made replacement.

Young Fulton isn’t a one trick pony.

Veaga went ok on the wing , a better option while Saab is injured than Tui.

Toby’s will get a gig somewhere else if we don’t play him.
Great summary Mark but there's a reason Toby I'd not an demand player, exciting attacking player but has the tendency to make 3 + errors a game which is a non negotiable at NRL level
I'm not at all being rude or insulting of the bloke as he was action packed and full of energy involved in most of our good moments, but has to put the mistakes in a box

I think anyone who said Cooper Johns was a poor signing should now eat a bag of dicks.
Especially when he had a very decent junior career in our Matthews and ball sides, and would have absorbed a lot at Melbourne. People should know better. He may not become a superstar but he is professional and a good worker.

Yeah bully showed alot more as middle for me enough to warrant spot in 17.

He also showed a lot of promise in the Qcup . A mate of mines son who’s now at Newcastle played qcup against him and he’s more creative than people give him credit for. Thought he dug into the line well last night and got the line humming with a bit of shape. Happy with this pickup for depth in the halves.

He may have some heritage mixed in but he looks to be late developing IMO. Has loads of talent just needs to fill out.

You can't say that in 2023. A dick is too descriptive. Can you please go a little more non binary/prefered pronoun please? Those without dicks could be offended. Those with dicks may be offended. Those that want a bag full of dicks may be offended and finally those that had a bag full of dicks but chose to give said dicks away may be offended.

1. Last night was like getting a bag of mixed lollies and being surprised there were quite a few good ones.
2. Cooper Johns has the skinniest legs I've ever seen on a footballer.

Bully was always a middle at the Donkeys and that’s why I had him pencilled in to do well.

But Des tried to change him , and it failed.
Mate, Des failed at many turns in his 2nd coming not the least tried to turn potentially the best 5/8th since Fittler into a backrower. Deadset the dinosaur needed to go early in 2021 but only got saved by Turbo's once in a millenium season.
