Snake is definitely retiring

Snake

Snake's Alive!
Out of respect for the person who told me I will not mention any names but Snake is definitely not playing next season. I understand Baz hinted as much last week but the wording still left a degree a possibility but without a shadow of a doubt he will not be playing next season.

The reason this (as well as Skivvy's retirement) hasn't been officially announced is to do with payouts and insurance formalities etc.

So...

For those of you bagging Snake for (a) not allowing the club to use the cap space and (b) for sulking (c) for not giving 100%, you are absolutely out of line. The club is well aware of what is going on and know full well the situation with Snake.

Can I also say that Snake is a diabetic and has chronic injuries and did everything he could last year but the body just wasn't up to it. He is a human being with a set of goals for himself and wanted to play and compete and its easy for us sitting in the stands but he was willing himself to get fit again last season because he desperately wanted to contribute and it just didn't happen for him.

Don't be so hard on one of our greatest players to ever don the jumper.

Wish I could give this a like, dislike (for the nicest reasons), Agree, winner & informative.
I also know how difficult dealing with health issues can be.

Great post snake

Sucks. Brett Stewart was an absolutely amazing bloke on the field. I've said this a few times before, but he gave a few of us his free time off it, and I'll never forget that.

Sucks because guys like Nik Kosef and Brett Stewart should be able to retire on their own terms.

True legends of the game.

Hold on hope for Matai then 🙂 I hate change.

He, Lyon and Matai will be sorely missed. It will take Manly a few years to adjust to not having Snake, Matai and Lyon in our backline. Hard to replace champion players
Yeah losing Killer is massive in terms of leadership. Obviously Snake and Matai let their actions do the talking but Killer is one of the great Captains of any team in any era. Tough ask losing all three in one hit!

Brett has been a great for our club and it is sad that he retires like this. He has bravely toughed it out for many years in lots of pain. He is an ornament to our club and stands for so many good things. He has put so much back into the game, especially with his support of Diabetes and other charities. His career was special and he overcame severe adversity to be part of a group of players who made each of us smile with pride when they won premierships and heaps of big games. I hope the club employs him as a mentor to some of our younger players

Deserves much more than to just be dissed out. Snake, along with Matai and Lyon, are legends of the club as we all know and have done so much for the club we can't just be handling this as a "silent treatment". I'm sick of people asking Trent and others "is Brett gonna play" only to have a stupid question-avoiding response... The clubs gotta tell us the situation so it can be dealt with in the best way possible rather than this mess of a send off to an absolute legend of the side

Thanks Snake! All the best for the future hope to hear of you being involved in the club in some capacity and hopefully I'll see you there too if I make it. Now with snake, Lyon and from what seems to be Matai gone its been quite a shock, they were (hate using that word :tmi:) three of the players who I'd always be tossing up as to which one is my favourite and now they're gone.

as has the on and off field leadership of one Jason King, an underated hero, co-captain & local junior our forwards wouldn't have gotten away with some of '16s limp performances with him in the pack (imho)

the new guys have some big shoes to fill .... Tom is looking like he will make the loss of Snake less painful .... who is going to stand up to fill the void of the loss of the worlds best centre pairing? .... Dylan w really needs to soar like a Seaeagle next season and whether its Brian Kelly or someone else Omar? Hopa? Jorge? .... well I wish them well and hope that Blake Green can deliver great things inside them ....
