Manly Warringah Sea Eagles have confirmed the signing of talented back-rower Curtis Sironen on a two-year deal from next season.

Sironen joins the Sea Eagles from the Wests Tigers, a club he played 65 first grade matches for after making his NRL debut in round 12 of the 2012 season.

A Balmain junior, the 23-year-old Sironen made eight NRL appearances in 2016 for the Tigers. He also represented City Origin for the third time.

A five-eighth in his junior days, the former Wests Tigers Rookie of the Year is excited about the prospect of developing his forward play under Sea Eagles Coach Trent Barrett.

“I want to be playing first grade. When I spoke to Trent for the first time, he won me over straight away with his enthusiasm,’’ Sironen said.

“This is a good fresh start for me. There is a great core of young players here at Manly, a number of internationals, as well as an experienced mix of forwards led by Nate Myles, Martin Taupau, and Brenton Lawrence.

“I want to show what I can do. I want to reach my potential and I’m sure I can do that here at Manly.”

Sea Eagles Coach Trent Barrett said Sironen was a great signing for the club.

“He is an experienced player, Curtis. He is a big edge back-rower with plenty of ability,’’ Barrett said.

“Curtis can play through the line, before the line, and he has got a kicking game. He is what we were looking for and we were really fortunate that this opportunity to secure him came about late.”

Very happy with this signing, big, agile and skilful. Also capable of playing big minutes as well as offering us another genuine point of attack. We sure are assembling a sizeable forward pack next season. Darcy, AFB, Tapau, Sironen, Lane, Meehan, Jake, Myles. All we need now is a centre and an interchange prop. I had a feeling that Beale may have been let go by the Sharks if we failed to land Whare or DWZ. But with the injury to Mansour and Barba's suspension, I assume indicates we may need to cast our net a little wider. All in all when taking in the potential of signing Locke on the cheap, things appear to be progressing nicely.

Wasn't there legitimate confusion as to whether he was actually big? Some thought he was a smaller build, others said he was big.

If that 194cm/106kg is correct that's plenty big.

Nice signing (that is confirmed) and yes, he is a big boy!

in the right mind set this will be a very good signing I think.

Time will tell if escaping Taylor is all he needed to get to where many thought he would be.
It doesnt matter if its taylor or who the coach is if he dont like you or rate you .. In the end it spells trouble for the player... But that doesnt mean you havent still got something to offer the game .. Its only one mans opinion ..

Yes, a new centre is a must, however I'd be happy with Locke should Whare/DWZ not be a chance. Very happy with where we are at, even if someone doesn't play too good we'll have plenty of cash for next off season with some great players available
