Don't forget that those honourable men 'the player agents' are not above saying these sort of things to the terminally under-brained 'sports journos' whenever their player's contract comes up for negotiation.

Most 'sport punchies' have this sentence saved in their word doc's: Manly player "x" rumoured to be about to join Parramatta.

That way when it gets to mid-week they just have to copy and paste and add a random name in place of the x.

One reason is that we don't have money in our cap to compete with clubs that have
Other reasons ....
*Most players want to play in a winning culture
*Players want to play for a coach that can improve their game
*Where there is smoke there is fire

I agree with you though that we should not get our feathers in a knot unless the rumours become reality
Lane’s game has certainly improved over the last year or sounder someone’s mentor ship. Or is it all about his own attitude?

Just on the player agents... Why hasn't the NRL done anything about the player agent deregistration yet?... Very suss.

Speaking of #NRL transparency @SmartState1 when will the player managers involved with the #Eels cap rorts over two yrs ago actually be dealt with... Oh, and then there’s the Sea Eagles...…

The Manly salary cap appeal will be heard in the coming days. So we hope to wrap that up soon. Agree the player agents issue has dragged on. Complicated issue but we are working to finalise this too. This is a tough one but NOT swept under the carpet.

If we are screwed anyway due to Cherrys contract for the next 5 years, why don't we just clear out all this dead wood (Lane, Hastings, Uate, Tapau if we wants to go) and just buy a bunch of talented juniors to longer contracts so they can't be poached and just work with them around the spine of the Trobjs and Cherry. What have we got to lose?. With Cherrys big salary and our salary cap haircut we are rife to have anyone with talent stolen anyway so just lock the juniors up for longer and develop them over the next 3 or 4 years and live with the results.

The players are so close in talent these days anything can happen and it is better than continuing to sign fringe players like we have the last 3 years only to have them either underperform or to perform and be stolen away with bigger contracts.

NRL does not have jurisdiction over agents.Regulation of agents is the responsibility of an independent committee. That committee is reviewing info relevant to Parramatta. Meanwhile we are working with all clubs & players association to reform the scheme for regulating agents #nrl https://t.co/3v9T4R5W4C

Agree but they also have 1M+ in TPA's that we will never be able to gather.

unfortunately this is probably true, we have to include all of ours yet some teams would be paying over $1M.

The worst thing is the highest club accepted and registered but toddles was Melscum at about 750K.

well if your gamble on fringe players doesn't come off spectacularly then you have a lot of under performers on long term contracts who you can't move and have signed another 5 years of wilderness to the club.

Yep. Exactly what we are going through now with shorter term contracts on fringe players. Let's just steal Penrith and Warriors juniors. Can't go wrong.

Really unavoidable when an original base rate player such as Lane shows some general improvement and then naturally feels due for a pay rise and particularly when some fellow teammates whose contribution is not that much more superior are commanding considerably more money. Bit hard to say what a realistic pay level that Lane would be currently rated at, probably in the 220 - 230 k range and could justifiably warrant something like that on present form and taking into account that the cap is increasing . Just based again on the confirmed players departing plus Myles "s outlay finishing , should be quite reasonable additional funds available for upgrading existing contracted players who do seem worthwhile keeping . Also taking into account someone like Siro "s injury prone record in comparison to Lane , maybe more reason to make a reasonable effort to retain a player like Lane . Frank was able to be retained post last season, no doubt on a bargain deal but maybe Lane is in a bit more demand and does expect a more increased value then that .

is it just me or does it seem that Doesnt Matta have made a career out of being serial talent poachers from Manly.!!!
Haven't they got the biggest "nursery" in the free world ,why do they have to keep chipping away at the few diamonds we have found amongst the gravel. It really makes me angry and despise that turn coat the Dalai Arthur even more ,I mean gee he has performed miracles for all the high profile recruits careers' over there ......

Norman fail
Foran fail
Hayne fail
Moses 1/2
Watmough fail
Radradra fail (let his best player go and replaced him with a has been )
Junior Paulo will be a fail (all 135kgs of him will struggle to provide value in a reduced inter change environment)
etc etc

probably a few more i have forgotten ,I just say piss off doeesnt matta and recruit from your "nursery' if its that good

If Lane leaves this will be his fourth club he'll be at in five years, not a good look.
We'll offer him what he's worth to us, should Parra deem him to be worth more to them, then so be it and nice knowing you
