Sack Spoony Siebold

I don't think Seibold is the best coach but he isn't the worst and I don't think sacking him will do much to improve our lot in life. I get the frustration but we've tried sacking coaches Tooves, Barrett, Des and how did that work out for us? A short period of hope that things will improve and then normal service resume. It's always just more of the same and it will be more of the same if they sack Seibold. Our owners are too stingy and wouldn't stump up for tier 1 coach anyway.

At the moment Seibold is still hamstrung by an unbalanced salary cap with too much money on players that are being over paid for what they are delivering .... DCE, Turbo, BenT and Jake. He didn't sign any of those players to any of those long term "overs" deals and imagine if he actually tried to off load Jake or Turbo...... there would be an outcry of all outcries. OK, perhaps DCE not overs but he hasn't delivered much in his 15 years here and whilst we were over paying him in the early years of his contact we couldn't recruit decent players around him to enable us to be competitive or win anything. Whilst we have those overs contracts in place he / we can't sign any of the decent blatantly obvious forwards we need to support our "weapons". which means all he can do is go for money ball forward signings.

The blame for where the club has sat for the last 10 years starts at the top and that falls squarely on the shoulders of the Penn family. As long as they remain you can change all the coaches you want but we aren't getting much better than what we've seen for the last 10+ years.
Think it’s a bit unfair to lump BenT in with those others, unless you’re suggesting he’s worth $0.There is a common denominator during those yrs the coaches were sacked and he is moving on,so next yr and beyond will be an interesting watch

Yeah, you're probably right about BenTt. I read somewhere that he is in $400K a year? Probably bullshxt ....

We will need to find a new coach looking to the future, I can’t believe we extended Seibs, his here till the end of 27, basically three more seasons, actually how things transpire this year has the potential to change that.

I think things are going to get very ugly, as a lifer, I’m shattered at what’s transpiring, our club is staring at a potentially very dim reality, it’s not just Seibs, it’s pretty systemic through out the organisation, our owner is clueless, recruitment and retention incompetent, our roster bog average, our CEO….juries out on him at the moment and our coach is being exposed, he can’t coach and it’s starting to look like he will struggle to hold the dressing room.

How long before the players loose faith, if they haven’t already, I believe it’s actually happening right before our eyes, perhaps it’s already happened.

The whole place needs a broom put through it, if Penn won’t sell, then that’s his choice, but he better start communicating with Mestrov about who’s next up in the coaches box, (I have no confidence that will yield any positive result in any case, never the less I believe its going to be necessary) it’s a results driven business and we’re about to see some pretty disappointing results, it’s glaringly obvious we are just at the beginning of a very painful process.

It’s time to start looking to the future, we are not in any kind of premiership window, that’s delusional, even if our current roster was at full strength, start the rebuild process early, just get on with it, Seibs can see out the year, who knows, maybe he can turn it all around, I just don’t see that happening, I actually think the stark reality is about to unfold and it’s not going to be much fun for any of us.

Ivan Cleary claps back at you with six GFs and four premierships. Des Hasler blows you a kiss loaded with five GFs and two premierships. Twenty Robinson gives you the three fingered salute with three premiership rings. Jason Ryles says this is my first season, Spoon is onto his third, come and see how I'm doing in a couple of years.

You're bloody mad Max, comparing multi premiership winning coaches with the Spoon.
Give it up mate….Siebold inherited the team from another coach. We got into the finals last year. This year started well except for the DCE $hit fight. Cleary is struggling with the team he has due to all the players gone so understandable. Hasler has done wonders with Titans & players at his disposal eh? Roosters won their premierships coz the players bought by Politis not Robinson’s coaching!! Ryles first time coach & not the best roster but yeah let’s give it to Siebold!
Btw lololol means I’m laughing at your dislike of our coach.

Players that the spoon has coached generally believe he is a poor coach …that’s past and present. We should have kept Flano and sent spoon to st merge.Penns strategy as an employer is very much a hands off approach who gives his employees full autonomy so if they don’t get results they can’t somehow play the blame game. Doesn’t seem to have worked for him.Maybe he needs to take the same approach as the self made billionaire uncle nick who is on top of all details in the operations of the football club which has resulted in success .

Did you notice that Brooks was doing all of the kicking early in the game it looked to me like Seibold handed him the keys. It didn’t pay off. Our attack was really pedestrian yesterday no one running into holes the attack going sideways it looked easy to defend against. That scares me as I though our attack was better than our defence. On yesterday’s performance we don’t make the top 8. We dish that up next game we will get belted by St Merge even at home.

You only sack your coach if you have a better option. Or things have become untenable in the dressing room.

The best alternative that the guys on here that post endlessly about how sh$t Seibold is, is Brad Arthur. The same guy that holds the record for most years coached without a final appearance. FMD.

We don't have the cattle in the forwards and until 2027 we won't. That's because of contracts signed well before mestrov and Seibold got to the club

Did you actually read my post?

Its because of the contracts given primarily to the Turbos - when was that done? 5 years ago?

Mestrov cant magically move them off the books (unless they are prepared to pay a heap of freight of course)
All clubs have 3 players around that mark some have more. Why don't they fill their Rosters with ageing forwards with slow legs?

You need to stop sugar coating things. Tell it like it is.

Forget top 8. If Tom keeps breaking down we are in first wooden spoon territory, with our perennial saviours parramatta being called back into service.

and those other clubs you speak of.. By the way there were 12 of them that finished below manly last year.

Are their top 3 players injured, slow and checked out?

We aren't in wooden spoon territory, we're where we've been for the last 10 years and are about a 6th placed to a 10th placed team. Injuries to key players deciding ......

Last year many of them were injured yes. Cleary at Penrith, the Chooks have been smashed by injuries for two years, Fogarty for Canberra,Reynolds st the Broncos etc. The fact is injuries happen at every club. Good clubs are able to identify and sign younger players as depth to their squads. Penrith have been doing it superbly for years despite having a tight salary cap. Spoon and Manly have chosen to take the dads army adding experience route, signing players like Aaron Woods, Michael Chee Kam, Nathan Brown, Jazz Tevaga, and TKO.

Spoon and Mestrov can't blame a yone but themselves.

The interesting thing about our recruitment is the pack. Seibs seemed to put a premium on experience, when a club like the Dogs put it on body shapes. I think that is on Seibs and the coaching staff. A number of us laughed at the Dogs when they kept buying utility players; especially the weak gutted dog. I recall some relief when we missed out on Josh Curran. There were fears that Tupouniua was too injury prone to ever get back to his best. Their approach over the last three years has been a massive clean out and targeted recruitment of lean, athletic workhorses.

Meanwhile, we hang onto to the likes of Aloiai, Lodge, Sipley, and purchase TKO. I think a better strategy would have been to rely on the experience of Jake T, Croker, DCE, Paseka, and Olakau'atu and put together a pack with lean and mobile athletes.

I understand there's more to it. Our cap position probably meant we couldn't get a Curren and we did allegedly go after Tupouniua and missed out. I'm not suggesting it's as simple as just buying those players, when they chose to go to the Dogs. I also understand that our cupboard is pretty bare in terms of rookies banging down the door.

However, there's definitely been some interesting targets; Lodge, Brown, TKO, etc. amongst the re-signings of Aloiai, Sipley, and co. I think Paseka and Bullemor are doing enough to compete with the rest of the NRL, but after that, things are very grim. I know TKO has looked willing with the ball but he's still pretty slow and he is being caught out in defence. Aloiai had a reasonable game yesterday but we need more than reasonable every now and then.

An overhaul of the pack is required to get this club competing for the top 4.

I don't disagree with some of your points.

But the underlying tone is that manly are a terribly performed club. For instance you mention the broncos and Canberra and they finished well below Manly last year.

I've got mates who support other NRL clubs who would love to have "our problems" over theirs.

And no I'm not content with being a middle of the road team. I'm just being realistic about the situation and for me the issues can't be fixed until DCEs and Jake and Tom's contracts roll off.

I've been banging the drum on here, and even started a thread about 2027 being the real premiership window. But that's contingent on young blood coming thru in the halves and forwards, Tom and Jake taking heavily reduced contracts and signing a couple of marque forwards.

Absolutely we have been left hamstrung by Tom's ongoing fitness issues and Jake being paid way overs to be a tackling machine. I would sell them all tomorrow if I could. Imagine what we could buy with 3.4 million dollars.
