[Resurrected] SACK Des Hasler!!

Think the number would be closer to a $mil for Walker & Foz. $550K for Taufua, Boyle & Davey (think Davey alone was $280K, Taufua $120K then what Boyle was on) So it would be good to know where the $2.2 mil was spent for next year?
Taufua was probably only 120 k coz of long term player allowances etc. that could go to someone else now.

So there lies the question. If we have got rid of say $2.2mil of players would it be a hard reach that we have prepaid players for next year / year after so we can buy marque players in 2023 / 2024?
Basically you can only get rid of players when their contracts have finished, if you try to get rid of a player who is still under contract you have to make certain that another club is willing to take him on, and also for at least the same money that we are paying him, otherwise we have to make up the difference, which is then added to our salary cap,
Out of our highly paid players, namely Jake , Turbo and DCE, Tom would probably be the only one that would attract interest from another club for the same money that we are paying him,but then again clubs may baulk at paying so much for a player who's injury prone

What's anything you said had anything to do with I was talking about? where did I mention offloading a signed player? Everyone I mentioned is UNSIGNED!

What on earth are you talking about? All players contracts are confidential, sure the media likes to guess at some, and sometimes player agents like to hint at figures for strategic purposes, but if you think there is something fishy about DCE's deal because the figures haven't been passed on to Bulldog and Buzz, or announced in a member bulletin, then you are barking up the wrong tree.
Of course you could always be the first to disclose your own income, if you're worried it might smell bad if you don't?
Really..."all contracts are confidential", if so, why do we know Toms 1.2m, Jakes 900k and Captain Marvel at 1.2m. DCE's 2yr extension deal by all accounts is very "confidential".

Can you possibly explain to me the substantive difference that distinction makes. ?
Given the limited number of players actually available that would make difference to any given side at any given point its easier and sometimes more beneficial to 're-sign' players already in the system that have possible potential than go and 'sign' new players.

So yes Des did re-sign a number of players that were already in the manly system.

Furthermore to all those saying sack Des and Sack DCE or let the 7 go heres a list of the best available players. I would suggest I wouldn't want any of these guys at manly....

The easiest example in Newcastle, “we will be fine without Mitchell Pearce, we will use his money on 2 average halves and be a better side”, how did that go ?

Have a look at the Storm when they lost Papenhuysen as well, it wasn’t that dissimilar to our drop without being as spectacular. They were everyones red hot tip to be the only team to challenge Penrith, from round 16 to the end of the season, they won only 4 games, and lost to that woeful team based at Brookvale
so so true - you need to have a plan and a better plan than what we currently have. So far the only name thrown up as Coach is Seibold. Now he is an experienced coach with a terrible track record. The rest of the Sack them mob... nothing... crickets. It is obviously just a pure hatred of Hasler but they can't offer any better solution. I despise Hasler for what he did to us re the Dogs... I don't like that he is abrasive but he is a very good coach and with most of his players they love him and when he gets a fair crack with injuries he has taken us deep into two semi final campaigns. If the Sack them mob can come up with a cogent plan/suggestion that is not dripping in the dreamtime.. I am all ears and to me if the club is going to be better off from day 1, year 1 and there is a reasonably decent chance of that instead of just playing Gold Lotto and picking someone inexperienced hoping they might be ok then myself and others on the Hasler train might well jump off.

I thought you meant getting rid of some contracted players, we have probably already spent the money we have saved from players leaving, by upgrading other players, like Koula, Olakauatu. Saab and any other player that may be on a backended contract, things might be different next year, but having three players in the top 20 earners, getting another marquee player is probably out of the question.

A lot has to go right to win a premiership -granted but a coach on top of his game should always see a team at least be competitive

By no metric was it an acceptable year,
You summed up our year feathered friend

We were never a threat and never competitive all season

Every time we won a game we lost three

It was one step forward three step back through out the season
And no team makes the top 8 by being inconsistent and all season
If you are not competitive against top 8 teams all season you dont deserve to be in the top 8
and we got what we our deserved in the end of a very underwhelming season that failed EXPECTATIONS

The moral of the EXPECTATIONS story is

A well coached team meets expectations
An extraordinary coached team exceeds expectations
And an ordinary coached team underachieves and fails expectations

So if a team started the comp like this ...
L W L W W W L L W W L W L L L L ...
Would you say they were well coached, extraordinary coached or ordinary coached?

and this underwhelming and underachievement season of ours was a mess

The title of this thread and the varied responses raises a questions in my mind. When is it time for a previously successful coach (historically successful a premiership 10 years ago) to be replaced with a fresh mind and approach? When is the coach ultimately responsible for his team's ongoing poor performance and to what degree? My view after taking all contributing factors into account over a period of 4 seasons the coach is front and centre. IMO Des should be fighting to keep his job and needs to improve this team rather than seeking an extension to his contract.

I am with you
As soon as Des starts to excel we will start to extend his contract

This is his criteria . George Mimis his 10% Manager can read the fine print as well before he has the audacity to ask for another 900k contract

An extraordinary coached team exceeds expectations
And an ordinary coached team underachieves and fails expectations
