Scott Donald 🤣 terrible comparison to compare a winger whose job it was to score tries with a centre who is wasted in attack. Not surprised to see people pinning it on Haumole and not DCE who very rarely gives Koula early or good ball, we saw what happened when he played on the other side against the Phins but Seibold is too special to stick with anything that works

Garrick had a pretty good game at centre on the other side as well

Wow, Koula copping the heat now.

He gets the ball with zero room and three guys on him, as the opposition knows he is one of the few attacking weapons Manly have.

Agree. Although he and haumole need to learn how to hole run. To often they just run straight into the opposition. Not entirely their fault but they have to take a fair portion of the blame. Koula is still very young so hopefully he will improve. Although a little small should be a gun.

Ouch. That seems a bit harsh. The young bloke is rarely given any room to move but is the most likely to make a break despite this. He takes a lot of the tough runs and more than not, bends the line. The kid is full of effort and I reckon if he had players providing a better service, he'd be that strike player we need. Every other week, the backline looks like they just met. I get the feeling it's as frustrating for him as it is for us.

Fair enough. His 2 tries this season though with all that blistering speed and apparent ability hasn't exactly inspired me.

Neither has his 12 wins in 32 games to date.

Certainly we'd all like more from him but as one of the more inexperienced players in the team, I don't think his older, more experienced team mates have done their best to help inspire him more. Or maybe I should say, the more experienced players HAVE done their best and that's the problem.

It is coaching. Played so well on the other side of the field.
So the coach moves him back and nothing happens . Again.

Just needs the right opportunities and a lot more ball . More then measures up in defence , great asset to the side if used properly .
Would have been a serious loss longer term if he chose not to re commit for quite a few more seasons more.
This does remind me of the days Mitch Creary, Albert Torrens, Ashley Alberts and others were in the team....they used to get heaped with praise, because in an often beaten team, they weren't the worst players out there.

That said, we ACTUALLY improved when guys like Jamie Lyon and Steven Bell joined us, and we saw the real qualities of real talent.

Hell, there was a huge petition to Max Delemege about Michael Monaghan before Ox came ! And I DO think Ox was a substantial upgrade.

I think it's a matter of that we don't know better. Whatever it is, we just don't win games with him in the team. Okay, 7 wins in our last 24, and in Tolu's case 12 wins in 32 games as a career.....

should we really be breaking the Bank keeping these guys together, OR do we need something different?

If Turbo can manage close to a full season instead of only a handful of games and playing to his best level , will make a huge difference to back line plays , including more space for Koula .
Still pretty adamant however that Koula is a class act in his own right regardless .

Well mate, with his long term contract extension, you'll get to enjoy watching him for years to come.

4 out of 7 positions from last night's backline will change, and that's a good thing:

Parker out - Garrick in at 4
Garrick out - Turbo in at 1
Schuster out - Brooks in at 6
Tuipulotu out - Paulo in at 5

Add to that:

Jake out - Schuster in at 13
Aloiai out - Jake back in at 8
Paseka out - Lodge in at 10

BUT, we HAVE to change the following to at least START competing:

Croker out - specialist Hooker at 9
Depth forward out - marquee forward in
S Fainu, A Keppie IN
Woods, Condon, Boyle, Fulton, Sipley, Aloiai OUT

Clearly I'm in Al's camp here with Koula coz I agree he's young and he's got a bit more class than the blokes you mentioned above (Torrens etc). But the proposed changes you've pointed out here should happen (not sure they will though) and would hopefully get us at least back on track.

The only question I would have is over Paulo replacing Tui simply coz I haven't seen enough from Paulo either. It will be interesting to see if the light bulb that finally went on last night for Tui about staying on his wing in defence, can stay on. He finally looked like a good defensive winger. He takes a lot of the tough runs but does still have a touch of the Jorges about him in the air.

Anyway, that'll be next year and as far as I'm concerned, all the outside backs up for grabs coz none the current players or newly minted, have been setting the comp on fire.

Koula is dead set 100% voted most likely to make an individual break ...

40 games later ... waiting .... waiting ....

It is slowly becoming a worry

Fancy calling out a centre who has done nothing wrong for our failings. Put him in the Souths team and he would be up there with the best centres in the game. There isn't a centre in the game (other than L Mitchell circa 2018-2020) that would have done more with the limited opportunities he has been given thus far. He is not going to get the ball from a hit up and just run rings around the opposition. Not one player inside him has given him the ball in any space. Most young centres are getting caught out in D week in week out but keep their spots because coaches appreciate that it's a difficult place to defend. Koula more than keeps up his end of the bargain in D and has done some really good things out of yardage, taking tough carry after tough carry.

I believe that because of his noted speed, people are expecting him to torch the opposition, forgetting that a player 'one in' from the touchline, is heavily impacted by what goes on inside him.

You don't win and lose competitions because of your centres. He is the least of our worries right now.

Agree - Olakauatu is destroying Koula with his ball hogging and general lack of ball skills. I believe Ola should be moved into the front row where is sole attribute of physicality will be more valuable. Should be replaced inside Koula by someone who knows how to create space and pass.
Schuster

Might have been Tolu's best game against the Sharks. He's been a potential weapon ever since coming into the team but maybe he's decided to stop waiting for things to happen, and just take it on himself to make things happen.
I think he's been a bit hampered by a leg injury for most of this year but he could be about to explode in the way we've all imagined he could.
