The Manly club and for whatever reason has previously and historically have certainly had a high percentage or preponderance of ex players for coaches but some of the other longer term and traditional clubs have also no doubt had a reasonable number of ex players taking on coaching roles as well . In Manly "s case , of course they were just fortunate to have been able to field some very strong and competitive sides particularly in the seventies and eighties era , and so naturally this would have also reflected well for the respective coaches not with standing their own coaching prowess , and whether they had a prior playing connection or not . Graham Lowe was slightly unlucky not to have taken the quite formidable Manly 91 side to a G F appearance , but again even in the nineties , there were still some pretty fair Manly teams . In recent times and trends with quite a few players extending their playing longevity and media opportunities and so on , there may be less motivation and tendency for prospective and suited ex players to wish to take up coaching roles but of course good quality coaches are still just as important as good quality players for future N R L seasons . And even regardless if they have had a previous affiliated club connection .
