PRE-GAME DISCUSSION: Manly v Penrith [Round 4, 2021]

I was listening to a podcast last night wrapping up the round and they were going through all the injuries that occurred. One they listed was Jetski - knee.

Anyone heard anything ? He didn't finish the game but I don't recall anything in commentary at the time when he went off - must admit I was only half paying attention by that stage

If he is out then that is leaving our backrow stocks thin.

Can we please hold the ball. It’s a fundamental of the game, yet we can’t hold on to it, in many cases without any pressure applied. Do this and actually have some starch to our defence and structures and we might actually see an improved performance, which could promote so confidence in the squad for the following week when Tom is hopefully back.

it doesn’t matter if he is smaller look at the great players of past and present...Remember JT was told he was too small, I think even Cam Smith was told this too. Preston Campbell was a little half did well!

Not a half but Ryan Papenhausen was told he was too small, Corey Thompson the same, plenty of smaller blokes killing it!
Yeah Presto and Thompson are some of my favourite little man. Cam Smith wasn’t told he was too small at a young age, he was told he was a dead set c@nt at a young age, and will only get better.

I thought we looked better with jetski off tbh!

The thing about the good sides, their replacement players come in, roll up the sleeves and know their job....everything at Manly just looks confused and pedestrian...largely starting from dummy half and very contagious across the park.
The tackle 5 option is the (setup play), for the final tackle and we are often dominated here and have the markers coming through 100mph at our kicker, if you watch the Top 4 sides thay can turn a set with basically no momwntum into a good finish by a good kicking option for the field position they achieve and better still, have an enthusiastic, aggressive chase, an area Manly are terrible and never even have the foot on the opposition throats to create defensive pressure....Penrith by 36 after the opening 15 minutes gives hope "this could be our night"....1 penrith try try after 15m and predictably the White flag is up.....

He's lacked impact in attack and defence and its pretty obvious he's been playing hurt because the one strong aspect of his game is a bit of impact and aggression (as opposed to consistency and grinding workrate).

Noting we only had 4 designated second rowers in our squad, and Jetski was the last, if he is also Gonski then things really couldn't get much worse-ki.

I like games like this week's one...
I KNOW Manly don't have a snowballs chance in hell... I KNOW the best we will muster up is 1 try, MAYBE 2..

We're gonna get flogged.. there's no 2 ways about it.. even if Panthers get complacent, we don't have the talent to make them pay .

So I will have a few beers, and enjoy a Manly game of footy.. I won't get the ****s, I will probably have a chuckle to myself after each easy try they score, and I will turn it off at the end of the night in a good mood..

I was the same against the roosters, I was the same against the bunnies... I will be the same against the eels and the storm because they are all so far ahead of us in quality that I know we can't compete..

Only games I get affected by are games like against dragons, or dogs, or Broncos... Teams that are just as bad as us that we SHOULD atleast be competitive against.. I was disgusted by last Saturday's game.. but this week, it's gonna be a massacre and I'm content with that knowing our years shot already

Haha, I guess that makes you a better loser than average....

Lol I guess I'm just not delusional.. after seeing basically the same team get murdered week in week out last year, I accept where we are as a team and don't see the point getting worked up over it .
I wasn't a good loser last sat tho lol, getting beaten by 30 by the struggling dragons was disgusting. Many f bombs were dropped

Panthers $1.07
Manly $9.00

I think it’ll get even tighter ( if you are a betting person ).

Probably 1.03. / $11.00

don’t think I’ve ever seen odds like this in a RL game for a while.

This game will go one of two ways ( both with a Panthers win ).

1) as I expect after last weeks game it will be hard for the Panthers to be “ UP” like they were last round especially as they are playing the current spooners. So in essence they are complacent and we drag them down because of it. Panthers 32 Manly 10.

2) the alternative is Cleary says “ this is our really big chance to have a major impact on our F/A for the year so I want you to hammer them and keeping hammering for 80 minutes. Once you get to 50-0 it’ll be so much fun that anyone can score just get into the red zone , pick a player who hasn’t scored and let the party begin. Panthers 74 Manly 4.

The only way you’d see a Manly win is if the Panthers lose 5 players to injury in the first 20 minutes and play the rest of the game with 12.
I'm on the 2nd one. You can bet your house on it.

My the footy Gods have mercy on our souls

There fullback and hooker are out injured so im not expecting much from there halves
even though this in in jest, Penrith will blood some young guns and they will kill it! If it was Des coaching they would put a spare prop at hooker and fullback

I just want to see them defend well & complete their sets.

At least that will reduce the amount of time Penrith have the ball & theoretically reduce the number of pointscoring opportunities they have.

Could not have said it better. If we at least split possession 50 - 50, we might be able to keep things respectable.

The big issue is the egg shell defence on both edges. We have to number up better and make better decisions regarding when we slide and when we jam in.

It'll be a monstrous win if we can jag it but we are at long odds to do it.
