First Grader
-Turbo has gone to another level
-Parker has improved out of sight
-Saab is making Goon fans weep
-Paseka is a beast
-Schuster is playing 80mins in the back row
-Keppie is progressing well
-Harper is killing it
-Foran looks like his old self
-Croker is performing better than expected
-Sipley is getting scarier with each game
-Fainu was absolutely killing it
-Aloiai had gone up a level before his injury

-Croker and Fainu are especially good for a coach who doesn't know much about hookers.

-Lawton should add some punch in a few weeks.

-The juniors are unstoppable.

And let's not forget 2019 - things are beginning to look very good.

Perhaps a little more credit than deserved in some areas.
Especially hookers.
But is the contrast with 2018, or with rounds 1-4 in 2021?

It is awesome to see. We may not always agree with his selections (especially at the start of the year), but the most important thing is seeing these guys who are so young, pulled from reserve grade etc. turn into true talking points throughout the wider NRL community

2019 was a great year where we had a lot of injuries and performed very well in the finals.

We all know what happened last year - even if we don't all agree on the main reason why it panned out the way it did.

This year has a long way to go, but things are looking to be progressing nicely.

The most successful Hasler coached teams have almost always gathered momentum leading into the finals. I can't recall too many of those sides getting away to a quick start.

2018 was the worst season in memory - that ain't our concern any longer. The Dogs now have the coach who was responsible for the mess.

None according to the doomsdayers - he still can't coach, is lucky that injuries made him select players, lucky that Turbo is back, lucky that the opposition is terrible, lucky that the ball bounced our way in every game, just lucky lucky lucky. Now I am not saying we are Premiership contenders or we are out of the woods yet. Turbo being back has been a massive massive spark obviously but some of those plays like the one where Turbo burst through the hole on the weekend to send Saab away was all Des and was sooo reminiscent of the backline plays of 2005 to 2011.

How good was that Jake to Turbo play. And yes, it was definitely a Hasler special - Snake would have been smiling.

It's funny how Tommy makes everyone in the whole organisation seem surprisingly competent all of a sudden. We looked like busteds on the back of a pathetic finish to 2020 and diabolical start to 2021, with no Tommy Turbo.

There were aspects of yesterdays game that were concerning and you wouldn't call it a complete performance by any means. Just so happens the difference was Tommy, and he dragged us across the line on individual brilliance.

Saab's three tries, catching ability, and cover tackle helped immensely. What about Cherry's 40/20, the inexperienced forwards taking it to the opposition, Harper's enthusiasm, and Foran's bravery? Even Parkers hard-won 132m where he got absolutely smashed.

Turbo is enormous - no doubt. But there were other good performers in the team.

The Warriors have been dangerous all season - they are in the eight for a reason. It was a real danger game, and the boys rose to the occasion, overcoming adversity, terrible ruck adjudication and ten forward passes on the way to victory.

It was a game we would have almost certainly lost in recent times; so well done, lads!

I do agree with you that Des is starting to get the best out of our players again

But Parker has improved out of sight?

How many out of sight line breaks ?...... None in sight
How many out of sight Try assists ? ....... None in sight
How Many out of sight Tries ?......... None in sight
Defensively he has improved from the previous thrashing that we recently went through
But we still do see him missing tackles

Nah, his defence is 1st class. But is lacking in the attack skills. Should be moved into the second row.

He has improved out of sight from when he played for Barrett on a wing. He's not a superstar centre by any means, but he is doing a good job right now while Walker and Suli have been out. He's not our first choice - you need cheaper players who can plug a hole.

It's a great position for the club to be in firing on all pistons and only a tune-up required but why is that Tommy Turbo has made all the difference, surely one player cannot make that much difference to a teams dynamics or is it purely a mental and confidence thing for the players having him in the side.

Agree with most of this but will throw in a new 'reason' for our 0-4 start.

Tommybis defo the point of difference but in these first few rounds we were attempting to move from the up and in defence to an up and slide which with DW at fullback was almost impossible. Thats not a slight on DW. As a fullback hes an excellent 3/4. With tommy back the D has generally been much better.

Also Foran back and very rusty with DCE playing very poorly didnt help.

The oil has been added to the machine now and while its still warming up its defo heading in the right direction.

Turbo does make a big difference

But against the quality Panthers team that contained him
Our team needed more from other players

It is a team game all players have to contribute and not be just passengers in attack ans well as defence

Has Des’s coaching improved the players or has Turbo improved them
Time will tell if it’s Des the Mad Professor weaving his magic or it’s just Turbo’s brilliance dragging the team up to First grade level??
Guess we will find out how much they have improved individually from Des’s input when Tom is away with SOO !! mmmm

agreed totally about the change in defensive style - it is massive changing to slide. I had only ever played man on man smash mouth footy and to learn the intricacies of slide really does take some doing and at NRL level the learning process much be much much steeper

You mean when Turbo, Jake, and Chez are out for SOO. Yep, it will be interesting. The 2019 final series is proof enough for me that Des can get it done. Injuries etc will all play a part. There are so many variables to consider in a round of NRL.
