NRL Casualty Ward: Cleary eyes finals after avoiding surgery

Panthers superstar Nathan Cleary won't require immediate surgery on his injured shoulder and looks set to be available for the finals series.

The Sea Eagles have been forced into a backline reshuffle for their clash against the Panthers with five-eighth Josh Schuster failing to recover from a quad injury.

"We pulled Josh out of training on Wednesday evening, still feeling his quad a little bit, so we won't risk him," Sea Eagles coach Anthony Seibold said on Friday.

"It's been a frustrating start for him, but it's a long year and we didn't want to do any more damage to the injury. If he injures it more it could blow out from a 1-2 week injury to four or five weeks."

Manly will also be without Christian Tuipulotu (knee) and Ben Trbojevic (hamstring), but welcome back star winger Jason Saab, who hasn't played since injuring his ACL in Round 22 last year against the Titans.

I guess we’re gonna see if the current coaches are that much different to des.
Got reliable but unspectacular johns on the bench and young but full of X factor weekes named at 6…
My bet is they swap and weekes will come off the bench as he has all year, but would love to see him given a full game in the halves to see what he can do.

No excuses. If Wayne Bennet had this current roster at the Dolphins they would be coming first. This 17 is good enough to beat this Penrith squad. Time to play smart and play to our strengths. We have played some real dumb footy at various stages this year, clocking off when we are in control and our big boys going missing when we need those inspirational Ben Kennedy like charges. Let's put in a complete 80 minute performance. If we do we are guaranteed to win.

First time this year I'm not confident on game day. Think we'll get done fairly easily. Only plus is JFH and Martin out but without Schu and Koula I can't see to many points in us. Panfers by 16 and we drop to 9th.

Really can just not allow Panthers to get into a comfortable rhythm and Cleary in particular to dictate terms even if they are down on forward stocks a bit . Just have to try to be up for every game , Dolphins seem to be able to do it regularly with an on paper less credentialed squad so really no excuse for Manly . Hang back in defence like in stages against the knights and no hope . Important to try and control the ruck but will have to have a fair bit of variety in attack as well . Need really big games from D C E and Turbo in particular , still have good finishers on the wing , All going well , Weekes can offer that extra bit of ability as well .

Hope that Froggy is in better shape tonight , looked a bit jaded at times last week .Need his defence but better of with Lawton for majority 9 game time if Froggy is struggling a bit fitness wise . Just have to wait and see of course but have to keep the intensity up to be in with a shot

If he has one of those shoulder problems that needs to be 'managed' all season, then bring on Round 11 and young Gordie I say.
Crokes can do the job but not if he is less than 100% fit.
