Other Games - Round 24, 2018

Can’t wait for the semi finals. Dragons and Panthers look like wooden spooners, Souths and Auckland look average, Melbourne almost lost to Gold Coast and Roosters where thrashed by the out of form Broncos.

The NSW and the NRL need to take a look at tonight's matches at side-by-side Sydney venues. The SCG was full, showing the popularity of Aussie Rules. Next door the Football Stadium was 3/4 empty for a match between two of the leading teams in the NRL.
Memo NRL. Your sport is getting slaughtered by Aussie Rules.
Memo NSW Government: Why spend $700-m building a bigger stadium on the same site when it will only mean more empty seats?
If they upgrade the SCG then where are the Swans gonna play? Spotless?
Im. Sorry i genuinely dont know any viable AFL venues in sydney

I’m gunna weigh in on the Napa tackle debate here a little... because my job as a grunt was the same: smash people. Sounds simple and in essence it is, but I was never out to maim anyone and the techniques used reflect exactly that.

Busting someone’s piece as they hit it up is simple: aim and fire using your body mass and positioning relative to their speed and momentum against them. It takes two simple things: commitment (its gunna hurt you too) and specifically aimed and positioned leverage. The key is to hit them on the up and braced hard: ideally you want your shoulder under the sternum with your whole weight braced and powering upwards at about a 45° angle. Done right they fold up like a Kleenex around the fulcrum your shoulder provides and get winded or damn well know they’ve just been crunched. Hard. To do this well, you need to aim and judge your hit perfectly with your head in a safe place otherwise you’ll come off second best, and that ain’t the way to strike fear into your opponents lol.

Napa does not do this. He aims early and throws his head down, unsighted and as a projectile in an attempt to hurt opponents. It’s a great way to get yourself knocked out, but he’s hitting opponents head first in a clearly dangerous and careless manner, and the result is blokes getting seriously hurt.

As far as I’m concerned, once is happenstance, twice is coincidence and three times is enemy action. He should get rubbed out for a few weeks minimum, and if it happens again permanently. Those sort of head clashes can kill, and I think he’s aiming to hit head first with this type of tackle and has broken at least one jaw this year..

He won’t play any part in the finals now and the Rorters have just been dealt a huge huge blow as a result.

Dickhead no DICKHEAD!!

Sheesh, Saints. It's the team that delivers the worst result to me (maybe mainly) in terms of results. I mean I tip them, they lose, don't tip them, they win. They have been a Manly bogey side in the past and now the capitulation against the improving dogs.

No Sainthood there!

Any chance you'd have the time to become our Defence Coach?

Mary was wasn't he ? before his appointment.
We are not talking about Mary . We are talking about Trent here .
If you were serious about getting a serious head coach at your NRL club would you sign Trent and why ?

Anyone notice how well the Dogs are playing sans FOURan?
Anyone notice how Illawarra's season tanked when they received a few injuries - like every other club has dealt with during the earlier rounds?
What I have noticed is that the Dragons always choke with or without injuries this time of the year . Nothing new here

Ha I’m waaaaay to busted for that these days... incidentally, the bloke who taught me to tackle waaaaaay back when I was playing for North Curly.... was one T Randall @;)

It’s a bit of a lost art unfortunately, the front on, one on one clean hard hit. The techniques applied these days are more about winning the ruck and controlling the speed of the play the ball. It’s a pity, because one of the things that a proper, hard rib tickler does is stop the ball carrier cold, and they ain’t looking to offload because their rib cage just got compressed heavily, and they can’t jump up and play the ball quickly because they ain’t sure they have an intact rib cage yet..

Be great to see the comeback of legally brutal defense: let’s go back to the future and innovate with proven hard hits instead of following the Purple Scum playbook and playing catch-up all the time...
