Dear Storm Members,

Like you, I love this time of the year — it’s getting close to finals time.

And, like clockwork, the annual Storm-bashing of our Club has begun. Funny how it always seems to happen about this time of the year, every year.

As a Club we always focus on being the best we can, on and off the field, and treat white noise as just that.

But this week in particular, I felt the need to say something both in the media and to you, our valued members.

Not just after hypocritical comments by one of my colleagues in Sydney regarding the way we play the game — comments we strongly object to — but also about today’s reporting in some sections of the media that sought to embarrass members of the Storm family.

That should not be what our game is about, especially in a week built around celebrating the role that women play in the NRL — Women in League Round. In fact NRL CEO, Todd Greenberg, has said as much in an opinion piece published today which you can read here.

With three home games left before the finals, it’s time to get behind our team.

Craig Bellamy said today this team is one of the hardest-working he has ever coached in his 18 years at the Club. It is little surprise he has them sitting on top of the ladder.

Tomorrow afternoon, we take on Canberra in a much anticipated game between two of the top three teams in the NRL and we want as many members and fans as possible to get down to AAMI Park and show your #PurplePride.

With your help, we can turn this week, and the negatives we’ve encountered, into a positive!

Thanks for your continued support.

Dave

Note to Scumos - here is the reason you are 'bullied'

Cheating Storm stripped of premierships

UPDATED FRI 23 APR 2010,

The Melbourne Storm have been stripped of two premierships, three minor premierships and fined a total of $1.6 million for massive breaches of the NRL's salary cap rules.

They have also been stripped of all competition points accumulated this season and will not be playing for points for the remainder of the campaign.

NRL chief executive David Gallop addressed a media conference in Sydney, outlining that an audit had found the Storm had been operating two sets of books to hide breaches from salary cap auditor Ian Schubert.

Additional payments amounted to $1.7 million over five years and $700,000 in 2010.

"They had a long-term system of effectively two sets of books and the elaborate lengths they have gone through to cover this up has been extraordinary," Gallop said.

"The club has furthermore been fined $500,000 and will be forced to return $1.1 million in prize money, with it being distributed evenly among the other 15 clubs."

While the Storm will lose their titles from 2007 and 2009, Gallop said neither losing grand finalists Manly or Parramatta will assume those titles.

He said the Storm would have noted what happened in 2002, when the Bulldogs were stripped of 37 competition points and fined $500,000 for breaching the cap.

"The rules are the rules, everyone in this competition knows them. Particularly after the Bulldogs, they knew the risk they were taking," Gallop said.

"There's no alternative for the NRL in terms of penalties."

When asked whether there would be legal implications for those involved, Gallop replied: "Most certainly."

Storm coach Craig Bellamy said in a statement that he was unaware of the breaches.

"This is an absolute shock to myself, to our football staff, to our players," he said.

"Personally I am heartbroken. But this football club has great character and values. We will not walk away from this challenge.

"We will stick tight together as a group and fight our way back from this."

John Hartigan, chairman and chief executive of club owner News Limited, said the deception had been concealed from his organisation.

News has appointed accounting firm Deloitte to conduct a forensic audit of the club's accounts, stood down two senior staff believed to be involved and hired respected administrator Frank Stanton to move in as caretaker chief executive.

"Today is a regrettable day in the history of the game," Hartigan said.

"I don't think there will be a league fan anywhere who is not outraged by what appears to be a highly orchestrated, deeply deceptive fraud in which there was systematic and deliberate concealment of unlawful payments to certain players over an extended period."

The investigations revealed the Storm maintained a dual-contract system, with the club confirming that side letters promising extra payments were stored in a secret file.

"The breakthrough in the investigation was the discovery by the salary cap auditor (Ian Schubert) of a file in a separate room at the Storm to the room which contained the file with the player's contracts, outlining the payments to the players not disclosed to us," he said.

"It was through this system that they were able to attract and retain some of the biggest names in rugby league.

"The results of their practices on the field speak for themselves."

Gallop said the Storm need to quickly find a way to rectify the situation to have any chance of regaining their status in the league.

"Certainly by the 2011 season they need to be operating within the salary cap and how they do that I'm not sure at this stage," he said

Let’s not forget the array of tactics so dirty that they’ve written specific rules to use on other teams only...

Or rule changes bought about by the actions of a certain full back and his propensity for dangerous studs up sliding tackles...

Or the way their tactics have moulded the game into a wrestle fest eyesore...

Or that self entitled prick of a captain who seems to believe he’s bigger than the game...

Or the fact that of all the records your club might own.. we owned you 40 frikken NIL!!

EADC’s :giggle:

If there is ever a club in denial its the Drizzle, fair dinkum, trying to create a siege mentality to the blind faithful when the rugby league world knows that they will do anything it takes to get an advantage that is aided and abetted by the authority that is supposed to protect the image of the game.

A bit of advice, our club for years have been despised for our success and the fact that at one stage just about every big player in the game was interested in our club. Our champion teams are remembered for playing with flair and toughness WITHIN the rules. The Drizzle celebrate illegal success and highlight players that they have maimed in big games like they did Brett Stewart over that abomination of a tackle that he copped from Crocker in the 07 grand final.

Most fans of clubs in this city resent them big time because they know its not a level playing field and they get an unfair advantage over everyone on TPA's. They are the offspring of News Filth and they have all their values of deceit and unfairness and grubby do whatever it takes to be successful.

Maybe they should stop bullying their own first.

What’s the first rule of Fight Club? Never talk about Fight Club.
It’s the same with the Storm’s dark arts training techniques coached by MMA guru John Donehue at his Notting Hill dojo in Melbourne.
Former members of the Storm family are instructed not to talk about what happens inside the walls of the mixed martial arts compound.
Speak out of school and you’ll be exiled from the club. Forever.

I got a fringe Storm NRL player called Brett “Bumper” O’Farrell on the record about the lengths the Storm went to at training to employ the mixed martial arts techniques into the NRL.
Storm coach Craig Bellamy predictably blew a gasket and labelled O’Farrell’s claims “a load of crap”.

O’Farrell has since been exiled from the club, completely airbrushed from their history.

No longer invited to Old Boys Day, no longer welcome at any Storm function.
Not so long ago Storm champion Robbie Kearns accidentally threw him a bait to a Storm event. When O’Farrell questioned whether it had been cleared by Bellamy, Kearns told him it hadn’t and it was a loose carry from him that he’d sent it. Sorry mate, you’re still out was the message.

I really object to him calling it "Our game".
We have "our game," your game is more about cheating and bending rules .
Victoria isnt Rugby League ,never was ,never will be.
Storm are the purple, annoying ,despised ,cling-on down south.
They Really should have been called the Melbourne Hemorrhoids.
Be gone with you,no one wants you.

Lol, we are the insular peninsula, who live under the radar. We invented that **** guys.

They just have a better financed media department and fan relations so they have an easier sell.

The storm accused max krililich of firing up in the media pre game against us allegedly to influence the ref . But every year, the storm get one of there many media buddies to hammer them from out of the blue , just before finals , after ignoring there tactics all year, so that bellamy can go all dessie seige mentality **** . No one likes us we dont care.
Next week news ltd and the melbourne storm present sympathy week. The tragic story of a lady, a ring and a personal tragedy close to the ring, preferably with sick kids

Hate the storm guys but the tactic is solid because we all know how the media can sway the attitude of officials concerning the rules, and bellamy knows it too. But 6 points clear they can play the long game. B@stards !

Storm fans and their club can be hilarious at times.

In all honesty mate, do you know what they remind me of?

Brisbane circa early-90s.

Have advantages that most (not all, but most) other NRL clubs can only dream of.....yet they have this "We're so hard done by" attitude.

And how did Brisbane's attitude work out? We all know the answer to that one.....

Just back from a week’s work in Melbourne. Despite all the years in the competition, all their “success” and current position on the table, you still have to flick 15 pages in from the back page of the Herald Sun to find the 1/4 page Storm article.

Joke they still exist.
Are those first 14 pages full of AFL?
