The main thing going for us, wether we get the changes that most want to see or not, is that we have massive room for improvement. We wern't outclassed by Raiders, we just didn't show up.

Im possitive our best performance agianst the Cowboys can get us a win in a tight match, however, my concern being I dont think we can pull a game like that out of the bad just 1 week after a very embarrasing loss.

Have to agree - if we play our best we can win, but we are at least a month away from that in both combinations and match fitness.

Hopefully the game resembles our last outing in Townsville (2004).

The Brokeback mob dominated the first half but didn't get many points on the board before Manly shredded them in the second half - a game highlighted by the only decent Jye Mullane performance in First Grade and Ian Donelly running for more than 10 metres.

Those were the days. *sighs*
Yes we only wish for those days (not!), however the Cowboys have improved since then & we have not matched that improvement in the same consistent manner. Poor old Jye great potential but lacked confidence & went down in a heap soon afterwards, some many with potential but not strong in the head mentally so as to speak.

Oi!! Donnely ran more than 10m most games - problem was it was always sideways

We actually had a back with some attacking flair in those day - a player by the name of A Walker!!!! Sparked our second half comeback. What we could do with him at 5/8 in attack!!! (Defence - now that is another story!)

If Lyon comes our way next year it would good to try him at 5/8, he strong in both defence & attack, more in the mold of a Barrett. And yes A Walker was a very skillful attacking 5/8, we will have to wait to see how this week end pans out.

Keep Lyon (fingers crossed) at centre and decide on a 5/8th now. Which team has won a premiership by playing a halfback at 5/8th then switching them to hooker when the 5/8th that is on the bench comes on. We need to get a consistent 5/8th now to build a partnership with Orford.

Can you imagine having two specialist centres (Bell & Lyon) , a specialist hooker (Ballin) ,a quality half and a dedicated 5/8th, and no more relying on utility players to fill some of the most important positions on the field.

It's enough to give you a semi hard-on :lol2:

If you are to settle on a 5/8 now then I suppose Monas will be the player. You are right in that we need to sort this out now & not go through the adsurdity of rotating 5/8's between Monas & Burns, just does not work. Ballin should start then bring Dunley off the bench, far better impact player than a starting hooker.
The interesting thing is that with the potential signing of Lyon you would have a team that I believe potentially could go all the way.

One of the biggest problems is finding a place for Dunley & Willow. Ballin is an 80 minute player, so what do you do with Dunners. Keep him as a bench warmer to come on as a back rower? Which pushes Willow off the bench.

I personally would love to see Willow and Dunley back in PL, and bring Ballin and Cuthbo in. This is not that Willow and Dunners aren't up to NRL standard but why hold back the potential future of the club.

Exactly SB I hope that as the season progresses that Willow & Dunley go from being say our 14th and 15th ranked players in our top 25 to say 18th & 19th and that by the end of next season they are 24 & 25
