And yet on this saddest of days for this club I love
5 years ago to this day this proud moment happened.
Easily my favourite non GF win in a while.
Being in the members at ANZ that night surrounded by Souths fans with only one other lonely manly fan in my bay made it such a special win. By the end of the night we had the bay to ourselves
Also seeing rusty and co before they got into the lift ..giving them a a nice serve as they left priceless.
We are a long long way from being back to this standard and level as a club but one can only hope we reach these grand heights again one day into the future.

Incredible win, one of our best. I always remember it as the game where Gift gifted them a 14 point head start but the team had his back and powered to a dominant win. That try for Ballin through Snake - sublime. And that Wolf try is one of the best you will ever see. His effort was out of this world but the vision from DCE in setting up was equally as good.

The 2013 finals campaign was our grittiest from the 2005-2014 era and it's a disgrace on the NRL that it wasn't a successful campaign due to Shayne Hayne and his goons. Geoff Toovey and the boys deserved the premiership that year

I remember being in a motorhome that night, camping out in a remote part of NZ near Mt Cook. Mate of mine started texting me madly, giving me updates as the game progressed. They came through sporadically as reception faded in and out. Had to go outside for a few quiet fist-shaking, mumbled-under-breath "c'mooooon!!!" moments. Got over-excited in the pure mountain air and bought premium tix for the following weekend...then got back to Sydney and another mate offered me free tickets in the members section. Good times...

That game. The grand Final, Result determined by Kevin Shayne hayne, or more likely the NRL had a marked impact on our future.
Had we won, Tooves may still possibly be coach, the playing group may have been able to retire as one club players and the board may have been happy with a premiership to quieten them down for a while.
Not to mention the financial boost.
All woulda coulda shoulda I know but I still think of the positives that would've come from what would've been our ninth premiership.
I still believe we were deprived of that by the NRL and it wasn't long after the commission was formed and from what I've seen coincides with the choreography of rugby league, or the shadow thereof what we see today.

That Grand Final loss was hard to take, but while yes we did get screwed over by Shame Hayne, it still is no excuse for the fact that we led 18-6 with 20 to go and then proceeded to let them score 20 unanswered points in those 20 minutes. Our defence all but fell apart forward passes or not.

Like 1997, we had that game won and let it slip away.

Yeah I agree we should have held on.
But I thought it was a herculean effort to get into that position considering the circumstances we faced.
The crucial penalties against us, especially the one of a ball strip against I think Ballin, when it should've gone the other way for foul play from memory set the trend.
Momentum prior to the commission era was easier to claw back but in this agenda driven time it's almost impossible unless the refs decide on a square up and in that game there was no square up.
Hayne was on a mission from above.

Titans game a few weeks ago. Well on top when one ref goes off, allegedly injured, is replaced by another one who proceeds to blow 8 consecutive penalties against us. Momentum shifts, we lose. Three late square up penalties, we score two quick tries, but too late. Personally, I am still fuming. I didn’t really know if I believed in an agenda before that, but now...

It makes you wonder doesn't it.
