NRL is a disgrace.

Almost a wasted effort to beat the Eels and then lose to an ordinary Knights team the week after. I fear this loss may prove costly in the long run. Cowboys won't be a walk in the park either.
I agree

That game today for me today will cost us a home final lower 8 or a shot at the top 4 if we get our game together.

Yes we had poor decisions go against us but we had enough talent to beat the knights and just didn't look up for it.

The most annoying thing of the whole day, our matches and our intensity compared to parra, titans and even warriors away game earlier this year.. Even that game at Gosford we played better than today.

We were cruising till keppie stupidly got sin binned , the toy set in and we never looked like winning again.

Keppie ain’t worth it. Too much stupid in his game and it will continue to cost us

Croker bought back his
hero-play no where near a 40-20 kicks again.
The one that got me frothing was the horrendous attempt at the play the ball, after all the good work was done with the long range kick and chase. We had them pinned, we got the ball, and then he fuucked it. Momentum gone. Heads dropped.

If it’s the moment I’m thinking of, then I’m with you 100 per cent. He should have hunted in field looking for Turbo or DCE but instead went for the hero play.

We lost to a team that could not win a game in the last 6 weeks
We lost to a club that has inner turmoil and their coach calling the players a soft culture
I know the refs were poor but we still had opportunities to take the game and we failed to do so which was very disappointing
If we played smarter we would have won that game with the players we had on the field
Who would I drop ? Funa from the 5/8 spot
Walker should get the call up for 5/8 id imagine if schu and Foran ain’t back after the bye

Some **** decisions that didn’t let us have momentum:

  • Harper tackled then taken into touch. I have seen that blown as penalty as he was on the ground and stopped and got up to play the ball
  • Keppie on the last tackled gets his legs pulled by Fitzgibbon and no 6 again call. That was a deadset 6 again
  • Marty gets hit high by Frizell and only on report with no sin bin.
  • Marty gets sim binned for a front on shot where if you look at reverse angle Saifiti’s shoulder also contacts Marty’s head.
  • Twice Knights players injured on their six with trainer on and game stopped, but they stay on the field till next Manly set and their trainer gets ref to stop the game.

the list can be longer but can’t be bothered as the newspapers will have it printed as 18-10 to Knights.

Best we can hope of Marty doesn’t get charged as none of the players from yesterday with worse crushers and high tackles were charged by MRC, and we get a few good ones back after the Bye.
Well listed and explained. I liked your screen shot photos in another thread as well.
And you also get points for.......well, for your bullet points. @;)

Why was our attack so clunky? I’ll tell you why. The druggos were never onside and never got penalised

I only watched on television so can't give an at the ground viewpoint ... but I really do not recall one Manly play the ball where the Knights defensive line was back anywhere near the 10. Usually at was around 7 metres at best.

As far as how the team lined up yesterday, Des's hands were literally tied by the fact that every 5/8 and every edge forward we have is currently on the injured list.

Foran, Walker, Cust, Schuster, Aloiai, Sironen, Davey, Olakau'atu, Gosiewski. All out injured. Even just one of those players being available could have made all the difference yesterday.

If Des had played Croker at 5/8 and Lawton at hooker, the way the rest of the forwards would have looked (likely that Sips would have started at prop and Marty in the back row) ... that would have left Saddler as THE only recognised forward on the bench with any first grade experience, and he's still actually a development player. And don't give me this crap about Suli could be a back rower. He's lazy enough as a centre without expecting him to do the work of a forward. And while he was selected yesterday, Ben Trbojevic was there more because we needed another forward on the bench (which is not Tuipulotu) than because Des actually thinks he's ready for first grade.

Think for a moment. Counting Jake as a prop, going into the game we had 6 healthy front rowers (Jake, Sips, Marty, Keppie, Paseka and Saddler). And 4 of them are starting out of necessity. You honestly think an 18 year old rookie would have played if Des had any other choice? With all due respect to the kid, I do honestly think Ben Trbojevic is probably still 6-12 months from being fully ready for first grade

In all reality and with as little disruption to the team as possible after Shoe's late withdrawal, the side that ran out was probably as good as we could do given who is and isn't available. Was Funa the right choice for 5/8? Probably not, but outside of completely changing the whole team dynamic and running with probably one forward on the bench, who else could have?

Maybe in hindsight the better thing might have been to have Funa at fullback and Tom playing 5/8, at least in attack. But I can also see why Des didn't do that.

I am not a big Rothfield fan but he has said the fact that Newcastle were perfect and Manly were caned in the penalties and had two in the bin was a joke. That will do me. He is certainly no Manly fan or apologist!

When even Rothfield publicly acknowledges we got shafted, then we really did get shafted. I mean, he hates Manly as much as anyone

It’s on the nose, the knights were paying $5 plus yesterday, just 5 small $20k bets 60 seconds before kick off nets someone a cool half a million and you wonder why the refereeing smelt bad, just sayin!

Effort was pretty good in my eyes - it was just misplaced effort and the attack like has been said numerous times was inept. Defensively they stuck at it.... albeit the Knights threw nothing at them really.

No shape, no structure for long periods. I get that it's tough without a recognized halves partner but DCE has gotta do way more in games like this. Kicking game was dreadful. Very disappointed.

The guidlines (with a little tweeking) handed down by V'Landy's and the NRL are 100% correct and necessary .

But as usual we are being let down by the "interpretation" and incompetence of the referees and faceless bunker big brothers ...
