NRL is a disgrace.

The one that got me frothing was the horrendous attempt at the play the ball, after all the good work was done with the long range kick and chase. We had them pinned, we got the ball, and then he fuucked it. Momentum gone. Heads dropped.
But as the anomaly that is the NRL rules he gets penalised for trying to play the ball with his foot which he did ( albeit badly) with the marker all over him but make no attempt to play it with your foot it's all good.

Yeah, no argument that it was a poor play-the-ball, but it just wouldn't have happened if the marker wasn't all over him. I actually thought it might be worth a challenge.

We weren't good enough yesterday but dead set the referees only refereed one team. We copped so many head knocks that weren't penalised, we only got one six again call even though the Knights were pushing the envelope every. single. tackle. We would have had to beat the Knights and the ref to come away with the points yesterday. If Schuster played we would have won that match by 20 points IMO. Anyway good time to have the Bye.

As far as how the team lined up yesterday, Des's hands were literally tied by the fact that every 5/8 and every edge forward we have is currently on the injured list.

Foran, Walker, Cust, Schuster, Aloiai, Sironen, Davey, Olakau'atu, Gosiewski. All out injured. Even just one of those players being available could have made all the difference yesterday.

If Des had played Croker at 5/8 and Lawton at hooker, the way the rest of the forwards would have looked (likely that Sips would have started at prop and Marty in the back row) ... that would have left Saddler as THE only recognised forward on the bench with any first grade experience, and he's still actually a development player. And don't give me this crap about Suli could be a back rower. He's lazy enough as a centre without expecting him to do the work of a forward. And while he was selected yesterday, Ben Trbojevic was there more because we needed another forward on the bench (which is not Tuipulotu) than because Des actually thinks he's ready for first grade.

Think for a moment. Counting Jake as a prop, going into the game we had 6 healthy front rowers (Jake, Sips, Marty, Keppie, Paseka and Saddler). And 4 of them are starting out of necessity. You honestly think an 18 year old rookie would have played if Des had any other choice? With all due respect to the kid, I do honestly think Ben Trbojevic is probably still 6-12 months from being fully ready for first grade

In all reality and with as little disruption to the team as possible after Shoe's late withdrawal, the side that ran out was probably as good as we could do given who is and isn't available. Was Funa the right choice for 5/8? Probably not, but outside of completely changing the whole team dynamic and running with probably one forward on the bench, who else could have?

Maybe in hindsight the better thing might have been to have Funa at fullback and Tom playing 5/8, at least in attack. But I can also see why Des didn't do that.
Stop talking sense. Everyone knows Des has no idea. This is silvertails after all

Mate I agree with almost everything you are saying here. We are so down on troops that if we were playing this week we would have really struggled to field a team at all.

That being said I am still really struggling with Funa at five-eight. To me that was so left field that I don't think any member on here would have seen it coming. Perhaps we could have moved Parker in one spot (yes also left field I know), and played Tuipulotu as centre, with Garrick outside. At least Tuipulotu has played extensively at centre before, and his one first grade game for the Roosters was at centre. Funa had never played five eight before. Croker to five eight and Lawton to hooker.

Moving in Parker in one spot isn't a massive change to the team dynamic. Neither is playing a recognised nine at nine (Lawton) and a recognised six at six (Croker) The bench would have remained as it was or Funa could have taken Burbo's spot, assuming that he is still "6 to 12 months away" from playing first grade.

I don't disagree with that assessment by the way. If he wasn't ready he shouldn't have been picked. Simple as that.

If you are going to play Tuipulotu as a centre, why have Suli on the bench?

Fair point mate. If Burbo was ready to actually play an effective 40 minute bench role (if required). I would have kept him on the bench to cover backrow and centre. Suli would have been surplus to requirements. However, the point is now completely moot, as he wasn't given enough minutes for any type of assessment to be made. With players coming back after the bye we might have to wait until next season to find out.

Agreed, Why not play Croker at his preferred position of 6 for a week, give him a breather from being in the middle ,he deserves it. Let Lawton play his preferred position of 9 and gain some much needed Match fitness.

Our bench players played a total of 44 minutes between them!

Foz, Shoe, Guac and Siro should all be back after this weeks bye. Croker won't need to play 5/8.

I can see Des putting Foran straight back into 5/8, but who makes up the back row remains to be seen, as does who emerges as the hooker between Croker and Lawton. I'd say Schuster will definitely get one back row spot, but who is on the right will be interesting.

And for now I can see Croker keeping the #9 jumper. For now.

Yep Croker will definitely stay as nine. He deserves that spot right now. Foran slots straight back into six as well. I think that the two starting backrowers will be Schuster and Haumole. Lawton will go to fourteen, Siro to come back into the seventeen from the bench, with Taupau and Sipley. Cust misses out. I have Paseka and Keppie as starting props. Jake at lock obviously. Croker might find himself with less minutes and I can see Lawton as our "hectic cheese", doing big minutes alternating between nine and backrow.

So just a follow up on Des giving it to Cummins & the NRL.
Was there any comment from the NRL or did they just bury their heads & hope it went away....
