Struggling Sea Eagles to miss finals
Manly have slid back to the pack in recent seasons and their run of seven consecutive finals appearances looks set to end in 2011. While Des Hasler still has the core of the 2008 premiership-winning side at his disposal, the Sea Eagles have slowly lost squad depth while failing to rejuvenate their roster with strong signings. If Manly suffer a similar injury toll to last season they could fall as far as the bottom four. :giggle:

The media largely never give us a chance , I used to read these and think “ oh ****” , now I ignore and think “ **** them all”.

To be honest everything is just an opinion at this stage and based on players in v players out.

Doesn’t mean they’ll gel even if they’ve signed a star or two.

I’d suggest we’ll have a much better idea in about 8 weeks time.

I can totally understand why "experts" are writing us off. It's not like we took the league by storm last year...we had a solid patch before just scraping into the 8. Because the year exceeded all expectation and because of the couple of lean years prior, I think it felt like more of a success than it probably was.

Losing Green is a worry and I think our overall squad is short on quality compared to a number of other clubs. However, I think Barrett is shaping up to be the biggest make or break factor this coming year. If he is a "super coach" in the making like Gus thinks, he should be able to extract every last bit of talent out of our roster and push us ahead of the middle of the pack...

If he is just another good honest first grade coach, we will miss the finals because we just don't have the talent to compete.

Im not unhappy that we lost green just abit pissed that we didnt really replace him ( yet) . I think we are all in the same boat that we needed a big forward a 6 and a 3/4 to partner Walker . The forward stocks are looking good , but im still concerned about our 6 and 4 . If these were fixed its top 4 guaranteed. Heres hoping Barrett will be that supercoach.

He’s a complete d1ckhead. His giddy up sign off at the end of each and every article he posts on the NRL site is clear evidence of this fact. He is also a massive over talker who loves the sound of his own voice. Then there’s the fact that he tries so Hard to sound like a a man of the people with his knockabout forced Aussie accent. He’s a goose personified.

Mate, compare the squad we have this year to what Toovey had when we finished ninth. You are also failing to factor into the equation that quality players improve over time, and the fact that we have a very settled squad. If Tom, Jake, Api, Siro, Walker Lane, AFB, Perrett, all continue along there upward projectory. And Jorge, Thompson Uate, Marty, DCE continue to play as they have for many seasons....AND a couple of Kelly, JetSki, Tanginoa, Pasekaka, T Wright, as well as a host of other potentials step up. We will do very well this season. Then there’s Winterstein and a host of other quality back up players giving us great depth. I think we are in a position to do very well. If we get Carney or Croker fires look out.

Where I really think this squad could have an advantage this year. It's pretty settled. It's almost the same as last year. Yeah we have added Thomo and Croker. But last couple of years, that number would have been half the team.

Like everyone we will need a little luck to go our way. The difference between 14th and 6th can be as little as a couple of close games. An injury here. Or a sump in form there.

Confidence and self belief are crucial. At the moment this is a team that just feels like it's on the up in 2018. There is certain confidence, an air of expectation back. Those young, untested, inexperienced kids, unknown commodities, they could also be this season hottest new gun.

PS it's still the February, lets embrace the dream. Let's support them to win.
