Now they are questioning how we can afford such great players

Just seeking clarification re the new deals signed by the Turbos:
Do they apply from season 2021 onwards, or do they supersede the final year (2020) of their current contract?
If the latter then Manly is still paying the Turbos a lot less for this upcoming season; thus proving us more wriggle room in the Cap in 2020.
Have to assume that it will apply to 2021 and then on wards . Considering that are due to be on a combined 1 . 9 mil for 2020 , only a marginal difference in any case . I am more interested if there some T P A "s included in their new deals , that would certainly or definitely help the over all cap position going forward

What I'd like is some clarification of the rule that was evidently enforced to refuse the registration of Gift's contract that was supposedly under market value.

So what's the deal ? Can a player sign for $1 if they like ?

Theoretically, it's your choice what you sell your time for.

I think we only have to look at what we may have saved for 2020 and beyond to justify the roster we have.

GONE:
Perrett $200K
Api $400K
Hodgko $250K
Elgey $350

Pay Cut
Walker (pay cut) around $100 to 150K
Thompson ( pay cut) around $100 to $150K

just there its over $1.4 to $1.5 Mil

so even if we upgraded
Garrick ( upgrade $100K to $250K)
Turbo ( updgrade $300K- to $1.1 Mil)
Jake ( upgrade $300K - to $900K)
Fainu ( upgrade $195K to $300K)
Waddell ( upgrade $100K to $250K)
Parker ( upgrade $100K to $250K)

thats only around $1.095 Mil so there is even room to resign Cust, Keppie ( as they where already on our roster and may just need a minor upgrade payment.

and even Updgrade Suli if needed (say $100- $150K)

Then players like Schuster and Musgrove just replace a few players who where on min $105K contracts ( Like Fanu, Kioa, Anderson etc some will drop out of top 30 unfortunately to make way)
leaving still enough room to provide players like Schuster $100/$150K extra to resign.

Then players like Jetski, Georgie and co would have resigned for what they where on, just a simple contract extension no real salary cap change.

So nothing to see here, just the usually manly hatred and jealousy that we should all be so used to by now. GO Manly!

Plus there 300k on cap thats was not there for penalty.

That's a good point. TPA's may be unlimited, but at the same time they don't actually count towards the cap. Only what the club itself pays them is what counts. e.g. Jake could get $1m per year, but the club might only be paying $750k of it with the other $250k the rest in TPA's. That's only $750k off the cap.

Its actually amazing how many people don't realise that. They see a contract amount (e.g. DCE's $1.2m) and automatically assume that he's taking up that much of the cap when he's really not.

Think that Perrett was actually on more but then Paseka would have received an upgrade . A F B , Suli and to a lesser extent Jet Ski would have received some quite reasonable upgrades as well last season and going forward . Think that Shuster would have received more then a development contract level also . Fanu seems a better player then Sam Smith and surely a must to re sign Olokauatu on some upgrade Then young Zac Saddler and Siona Fainu apparently to keep in the ranks somewhere .

Yes. TPA's greatly favour Brisbane and Melbourne, and should also favour Auckland/NZ (although they don't seem to help their on-field performances).
Easts are also lucky that the nation's wealthiest people, many of who control large companies, live in the Eastern Suburbs.
It's tough for Manly to compete for corporate sponsorship.
