Wow that last 5 minutes of the half and all the golden point from the Knights was hard footy to watch. One out rubbish and panic. Could have won that game if they at least tried to string a couple of passes together. It's funny how teams choke up in golden point, they all do it.

They are just frightened of making a mistake and giving the game away.

To be honest I think GP in anything other than finals is bull****.

1 point each for a draw is fair.

Knights are over rated and pressure will go onto Brown now. Our forwards can handle them but I'm sure Greenturd and his whistle canaries will make sure we do it tough next week.

Because it shouldn't be a thing. Play the draws and have golden point in finals only

It adds nothing to the game but butt hurt.

From our game yesterday both team equally deserved no points and a point
1 each is fine get on with the season

Jamal Idris 2.0 should have jumped over Hughes once he committed to tackling around his legs.

Jayden Okunbor shoots to the top of my non-Manly favourites. Watching him run over the grub twice was priceless.( Dean Pay might have him working on a side step this week though.)

Penalties now 7 to 3 to Storm Greenturd obviously phoned the refs at half time
Sounds like he got what he wanted...
NRL head of football says referees erred with position of kick
Scott Bailey, AAP

Canterbury were told to take their match-defining missed conversion attempt against Melbourne from the wrong spot and too close to the sideline.

Bulldogs kicker Rhyse Martin missed a kick on the siren to level the scores at 18-18 and send the game into golden point on Sunday against the Storm.

The conversion went well wide of the posts but the NRL conceded that Martin was asked to make the attempt from the sideline despite Reimis Smith scoring the try three or four metres infield.

Canterbury's Rhyce Martin was told to take his match-defining conversion against Melbourne from the wrong spot
“In our view the referees should not have allowed that to happen, particularly given the circumstances of the game,” the NRL’s head of football Graham Annesley said.

“And that kick should have been allowed to be taken three to four metres in from touch.

“It doesn’t mean he would have kicked the goal, we’ll never know. But the referees have a responsibility to line it up and make sure they take the kick from the mark.”

In the footage, the assistant referee can be seen standing in line with where the ball is put down as the try goes to the bunker. The assistant referee then walks to the sideline to talk to the chief referee.

Martin then lines up his kick from behind where the two are standing.

As is NRL protocol, it is the head referee’s job to ensure the kick is taken in line from where the ball is grounded.

The Bulldogs were informed of the error and, while it’s understood they were not angry, coach Dean Pay questioned how it was possible.

“It’s a miss, and it’s an important miss they shouldn’t have got wrong,” Annesley said.

“They clearly weren’t paying enough attention.”

#NRL Latrell Mitchell has been issued with a fine after an incident at a nightclub in Taree on the NSW mid-North coast. Although Mitchell threw no punches in the group altercation, he is accused of arguing with security at the door. https://t.co/wXy3VPbBKy
Does this require Shoddy to implement a ban for bringing the game into disrepute?

Not if you are a chook

That Canterbury conversion stuff-up probably robbed the NRL of having four Golden Point matches in the one round which surely would have been a record.

Sounds like the wrong teams won, didn't follow the script....

NRL to overhaul golden point to make it fairer to losing teams
Phil Rothfield Sports Editor-at-large, The Daily Telegraph

Golden point is here to stay but the NRL will consider a restructure of competition points to allow losing teams in extra time to at least get one point.

The debate was ignited after a thrilling round in which Penrith’s Nathan Cleary, Manly’s Daly Cherry-Evans and the Dragons’ Corey Norman landed pressure field goals to send the Wests Tigers, South Sydney and Newcastle home with nothing for their efforts.

There is a suggestion the NRL could adopt the AFL’s system of four competition points for a win.

In that case if a game went to golden point, the winners would get three points and the losers one.

The NRL’s Head of Football Graham Annesley says there is some merit in looking at other options.

“We’re open to discussions on these sort of issues,” Annesley said.

“Although suggestions of this type have been raised in the past, the competition committee has to date not felt there is sufficient need to change the current golden point system.

“However, as administrators, we do have a responsibility to constantly review our competition rules and consider innovative ways to enhance public interest in the premiership.

“Just because an idea has been rejected in the past, doesn’t mean it can’t be revisited as the game continues to evolve.

“The Competition Committee meets again at the end of the season to review all aspects of the on-field game in 2019 in preparation for 2020 and beyond.”

The NRL would have trouble convincing TV broadcasters Fox Sports and Channel 9 to pay $2 billion in fees but then cut the most exciting content when matches are tied up after 80 minutes.

Over the weekend Fox Sports attracted its second highest Saturday rating ever.

Channel 9’s ratings were also up on last year.

“We’re in the entertainment business and anything that adds to a climactic finish is great for us,” said Fox Sports Head of Television Steve Crawley.

The other option that has been often mentioned in the past is golden try.

It would stop the five or six hit-ups then field goal shootouts and force teams to shift the football.

We've had threads on this before (I don't mind the 'ice' hockey system) but I didn't know the afl did that.
4 points for a win or 3 points for a win in overtime??? Ewwww

I have only seen bits and pieces of non-Manly games so far this year but it's quite apparent to me that there are plenty of 'average' team this year.
Apart from Storm and Chooks, probably.
If Manly keeps playing with energy and organisation there's no reason we can't beat most teams we come up against. Especially if we start to rebuild the fortress.
