This would benefit the younger players but i think for DCE, at 33, Club, QLD captain i think it would be a case of being too late?

By now with his experience and standing he would be the mentor.
I take your point he's 33.

I look at it this way. Our clubs not opposed to employing specialist coaches. With mentors like Marty and Jake and DES and the rest, we Still have spud working on things with forwards.

Snake with Turbo but you'd think all fullbacks.

Origin with all its stars and coaches. Yet I believe Qld have thurston doing work with the halves.

It's just DCE game management that he needs to think about differently.

My point with Cronk & Thurston, I think it would take someone of their standing to even have DCE at this point in time listen. But he would be crazy not to tap into their knowledge, his game is far from perfect.

Back to the original purpose of the thread...

There is a reason the Eels are letting Brown go...he is cooked. If it was just bad form, he’d be worth a punt, but it’s his body breaking down on him. The player of 2018-2020 would be worth a look, but he has been a shadow of himself for a while now. Also, it’s one thing to look at his running game, but it’s defence where Parra have finally had enough.

To me it will go down as the biggest oversight of this club, that the 'eyes up' DCE who has always played like a six and described his style of play as a 6, yet never got the 6 jersey or slightly lower pay packet of a 5/8th when he himself never claimed to be the best game manager.
He's not a bad guy but, he's also not a general.
I love that he's a clean skin, polite, professional player and person but, I look forward to his retirement, only because he's not a halfback!
Unless he was shifted aside for a true halfback, I want to see a game manager manage the attack

Yeh I get the impression his body is at a similar stage that Choc was when he left Manly for Parra, and they know it

Cronk or Thurston as our halves coach is about the only way I can see Daley improving his game management.
I’d love to see Cronk come in so DCE cracks a hissy fit and leaves… but I’m also aware, DCE is too crafty for that. He would nod his head and do his own thing while collectin* the mullah.

Best days are now behind him, was talked about coming to Manly a while back. He's been a battering ram with Parra for to long.....nah ..passing.
Yeah, I was one of those that wanted him a cpl years ago. But agree, his best is behind him.

Did you mean to reply to Ryan? I was talking about the Brown’s! Nathan in particular. While I’m not a fan of Gronk, we could certainly use his knowledge of the game and the value he would bring from his time at the scum and the chooks, it would be invaluable, but you needn’t worry to much about it, as I doubt either party would give the idea the time of day.
You might not like this idea much either, but if I could bring a new coach to our club, I would be going all out after Slater.
Jesus @Rafferty , you’ve knocked me out with that one, two coaching combo hit.@:p

I recall when the club hired Joey Jones to mentor our halves. It didn't work out well. Rather than discuss the rare chance that Cronk would ever consider coaching Manly let's give our two assistant coaches -- both former Manly players -- the first opportunity.
Johns is coaching at Newcastle & look where they are Lolol. The guy is a fu<ken junkie twat……

Cronk hates Manly and a Manly hates him as well. Anyway coaching is not all about the technical. It’s mostly about man management from what I can gather and I don’t see this as Cronks strong point at least in the long term. Look at Johns and Barrett….great at being mates with the players but not much else. Cronks a different beast but does not strike me as being super strong on the people skills etc…..

Anyway is the thread about Brown the current player or Brown the journey man coach? I assume maybe both :)

I'm not defending anything, simply stating that people make comment on assistant coaches both positive and negative based on nothing more than assumptions.

Cronk would be no guarantee to be a top head coach.

Ciraldo seems rated by all, but he is also no lock, you can have all the footy IQ in the world and be brilliant with the Xs and Os but being a head coach is so much more than that.

In terms of Monaghan and Randall, who knows how much input or control they get. Very hard to rate them on no information
I look forward to whenever Ciraldo finally takes a head coach job so we can find out whether he makes it or not. Its been like a soap opera so far haha

Nathan Brown? No thanks, we have plenty of young kids coming through for much less who will add more value.

Koula will mature and be a great alternative for Turbo, should he be injured again (which he probably will).

I actually think Burbo could surprise next year, as he matures.

In the forwards, the only two I am not convinced about for 2023 are ‘Marty’ and ‘Keppie’. I just don’t see what Marty adds anymore to the team, given his price tag. I had a lot of expectations for Keppie and while he has his good moments, he has more bad moments, and doesn’t seem to be improving.

WTF is going on with Paseka? He must have seriously pissed off Des.

Tarty Mapow is off contract with no apparent attempt from Msnly to re-sign him.

He has been really disappointing for a while now. He just can’t seem to kick on...he’s got the build but I can’t remember him stringing more than one good performance together in a row, since his debut. Patchy. World beater one week, ghost the next.

Paseka is slow from coming back from injury. In IMO he looks like a confidence player and I suspect when he gets injured he looses his nerve.
