Nathan Brown

TBH I think we need Lodge more than we do overrated Brown and plodder Aloiai.

Don't necessarily disagree, however Seibs has made his bed by signing both those players for at least another 2 years.
We absolutely cannot sign the 3rd.

Unfortunately you are 100% correct.

The elephant in Manly's salary cap room is that almost ½ of our cap taken up by about 4 or 5 players – DCE ($1.2m), Turbo ($1.1m), Jake ($950k) and Haumole ($900k). And according to what I could find, our next highest earner is Brooks on $700k.

It doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room to fit another 25 players under the cap. And unfortunately we've gone and signed a bunch of plodding forwards who would struggle to get games at certain other clubs. For mine, Lodge should have been one of the first one's re-signed, but it looks like he'll be out of here at seasons end which is a shame because I'd have him as a starting or bench prop over Brown or Aloiai or Sipley any day.

Today showed that against the fast skilful teams, Seibs old slow money ball signings like Brown, Aloiai and Lodge will have long term effects on Manly’s ability to compete in the next 2 years.

These guys cannot maintain their dominant middle week in, week out.
Alioia is on decent coin, don’t know what they gave Brown in his two year deal though no decent edge forward signing yet.

I think you'll find that most teams face that dilemma. A few high paid stars and a grab fest for the rest.

If you believe the media, the Storm have 4 players over,on or just under a million.Granted, they do have some that would be on peanuts, but they have the coach that gets the best out of them.Manly’s problems are not due to the highest paid players

Yep and the Storm are the best example.

The difference between us and them has to be coaching and motivation.

Storm spend big on the spine though.

We spend big on 2/4 spine players. Our other big $ is spent on an ageing middle and an excellent edge.

That's another big difference in theory.

I doubt players like Nelson, Coates, Welch, Kamikamica, Loiero are on peanuts. Even Howarth who is on a 5 or 6 year deal, the very best juniors never come as cut-price bargains.

But you're right they've got Blore, Katoa, Meany, Warbrick, Anderson, and Co. Some of those will soon need upgrades. In fact Wishart and Faalogo probably be far too expensive to retain.

On the whole, he’s been really good for us but yesterday wasn’t one of his better games. The stripping penalty on 2nd tackle, with the sharks coming off their line was poor. However he topped that, by giving away that stupid ‘late contact’ on the kicker penalty on 6th tackle. He should have been hooked but he stayed out until the 60 min mark. That’s on the coach.
