Josh will rise to another level in 2022, I promise you.

Yep and they were all good mates, despite what happened in the ring. Larry Oshea, Roy Miller, Mario Milano etc etc.

However, as Jimmy recanted to me, it all changed with TV and the Producers decided who was going to win a bout and that didn’t go down well with Jimmy and ultimately he was banned after bashing another wrestler over the head with a chair during a bout. Oh yeah and I think also the referee and maybe the Producer as well.

He recanted so many funny stories to me and my favourite was when he discovered his son-in-law was having an affair and found out the hotel where the couple made out. So Jimmy sat in reception and waited for them to come down in the elevator and when they finally arrived, Jimmy stood up and said “I hope you both enjoyed yourselves.” At which point the son-in-law pissed himself. Jimmy said, “I didn’t need to hit him, he was as weak as piss” and he just walked out and told his daughter.

Another occasion was when taking me from the airport to my hotel I asked him if he knew a bottle shop on the way to the hotel, as I’d like to get a bottle of wine. Jimmy announced that an old pub had just been taken over by a retired AFL player and they’d closed the restaurant and he understood they had some wine.

So, we arrived at the pub and I wanted just one bottle of wine and there was just one patron and the barman at the pub at the time.

I asked “Do you have any wine I could buy?”. The barman responded that they had a fridge full in the old restaurant and would I like to take a look. I said “Yes, that would be great.”

So the barman excused himself from the one patron in the pub and escorted me to the wine fridge and to my absolute surprise it was full of some of Australia’s best wines.

So I chose one, a Tyrells Vat 47 Chardonnay from a good year and asked, “How much for this?”, expecting $50 to $60 dollars at least.

“Don’t know, I’ll have to call the boss” the barman responded.

After a few minutes the barman came back and announced that the boss had told him that every bottle was $15.

Jimmy and I departed that establishment on that night with 12 and a bit cases of very expensive Australian wine at $15 a bottle, which left me very little room to sit in the car and Jimmy’s assurance he’d have it all wrapped up and shipped to my home the next day by one of his mates. Oh and yeah, Jimmy bought two of the cases and I still took one bottle to my room for the next few nights I was staying.

We laughed about it for many years and often wondered if we should poke our heads back in to see if the pub was still selling wine, but Jimmy thought we’d bought the lot.

Jimmy also made his own wine, a Greek style, from grapes he grew in his backyard. It was a red and at least 22% alcohol and he proudly gave me two bottles each year around Christmas. It was horrific but he loved it.
wasn't that Larry O'Day

A piece of this week's sport news by Adam Lucius in Northern Beaches Review:

Fists of Fury
Manly forward Josh Aloiai claims coach Des Hasler has no problem with him fighting Paul Gallen next month despite having surgery on both wrists over the past couple of years. "I don't think Des minded too much once we got all the medical clearances," Aloiai revealed. "They know I'm taking on a lot and it's a big ask, but they are behind me."
Aloiai and Gallen will square off in Newcastle on December 10 after weeks of verbal sparring. The Sea Eagles prop said of his opponent: "I don't think he particularly likes me. At the end of the day we're going to climb in the ring and try and knock each other's blocks off so what's said before doesn't really change that. There is no losing the fight for us. There is no plan B."

I sure hope Des knows what he's doing by telling Aloiai he doesn't mind too much!
Don't know about Des but I know I'm pissed off about it. Surgery on both wrists and has an off season boxing match? The term 'knucklehead' comes to mind.

Protester can’t make it out to pub tonight because he’s protesting for freedom
freedom-protest-man-620x370.jpg

A protester in Melbourne who has been camped out on Victoria’s Parliament House steps for the past four days has told friends he won’t be able to make it out tonight due the restrictions imposed on him by his protesting.

“I’d love to catch a movie or grab a few beers – I’ve been wanting to do that for months. But unfortunately I can’t because I’ve got to sit on Parliament House steps for the next 150 hours straight protesting for my freedom,” Brad Smythson from Doncaster explained.
He said even doing Christmas shopping was off the cards. “Sounds nice, but I’m pretty tied up man. I’ve gotta stay within 50 metres of Parliament House or I’ll stop getting attention. The restrictions are pretty tight right now”.

He said the lack of basic freedom in Victoria was appalling. “That’s why I’m here. To let all of those people walking past on the way to shops and bars and cafes and restaurants know that they’ve lost their freedoms.

“I’m looking forward to this all ending so I can get back some sort of normal life”.

I now have a green tick on my phone that proves I've had both shots and I've got to admit it makes me feel I'm one of the elite, a better class of person. Make way for the Green Tick Overlord....

Called off.. Aloiai has Covid

The Paul Gallen – Josh Aloiai heavyweight fight on December 10 has been called off after tests revealed Aloiai has Covid.

The Manly Sea Eagles front-rower is understood to have fallen ill on Monday after a session in his gym.

He is now being treated for Covid-19. It is unclear if he was vaccinated.

Promoter Matt Rose will try to reschedule the fight for January but there are doubts about Aloiai’s availability because of his football commitments with the Sea Eagles.

It is more likely Rose will have to find another opponent.

“Health and safety comes first with the boxers,” Rose said.

“Still the news is pretty devastating. Gal has trained so hard for so long.

“He had an awesome card with the pro debut of Harry Garside.

According to the article linked Josh was double vaccinated, which means he shouldn't be too badly affected. Fingers crossed for him, but it was only a matter of time before an NRL player tested positive to COVID. We all need to get our heads around the idea that we're going to catch it eventually.
