Manly's Best Players 2018

First Grader
In a poor season result wise, who do you rate as the players who have stood up??
Personally think Kapow has done his job and more, steamrolling massive metres and unloads that really should have earned better results.
Also Joel Thompson who started slow, but every week makes the ugly yards and is 1 tough hombre and some of his defence has been super, belting players far more than his more illustrious team mates.
Fainu has been a breath of fresh air with some sharp work around the ruck and is a rugged young player with zip - has a big NRL future.
Jake as always the rock up the middle and his emotion has at times assisted by refs, got the better of him - deserves to be in a contending team with his efforts, week in - week out.
Tom has had some great moments showing why is so highly rated, with some clangers also....I am not convinced this will not be throughout his career, but would not trade him for anyone.

Who has impressed you individually in 2018 ??

Brian Kelly has impressed me imensly. I think with more space and cleaner ball he will start to be a star.

Hopefully we can hold onto him as I think as he gets older he will become a more complete footballer.
Sorry @BOZO

Also Funua at hooker has a much better pass on him than Api. Once again over time he will will make a decent first grader. When he gets a little tougher and can emulate what Api does around the ruck with defence he will really start to shine.

Sorry @Holmsey

Here was I thinking Maxta .... that you wanted a thread about who has impressed this year ... a bit of positivity in a bleak year .... just the ticket ....

But it only took to the 3rd post to get a someone to start bagging .. . well done Stevo .....

For mine ...

Kelly ... continues to improve ..
Lane ... but that was from a fairly low base ..
Kapow ..
AFB ..
Walker ... when available has definitely added a spark and energy ..
Fainu ... early days but shows promise ...
and of course Jake ....

Kelly , A F B and Lane definitely lifted to a better level . Jake a main stay again . Thompson and Marty consistently solid and strong . Fainu looking good.

Jake,Taupau, AFB, Thompson have been our foundation so far this season. I believe Walker would be on the list if not injured all season. Lane, Kelly have picked up their game this year but still have some flaws in their game at times thus far. Kelly on the right track though. I think cherry and turbo have been lacklustre this year and would be disappointed in their individual performances week in week out. Probably our two most influential players along with api, for whatever reasons, just havent delivered as expected. Manase and taniela have been superb for 1st year first graders. Couldn't ask any more of them

Thanks.

Brian Kelly is the obvious one. Followed by Jake, Thommo and Kapow.
Paseka had been solid and Dylan Walker in very limited opportunities.

Yep, Bozo got it wrong with Kelly. I was unsure as well but seeing him with a bit more space and time to work with, he is impressive. He needs to get the ball earlier, that's for sure. Is he too small for fullback? A direct swap with TT? Hahaha...just throwing it out there!!

Korisau is surplus to our needs going forward as well and we don't need to break the bank to keep him. In my opinion, Fainu WILL develop into a better player.

Api was great until he got injured.
Sirro was playing well until he got injured.
Of those currently playing Kapow has aimed up in almost every match. He has been my stand-out this season.
Joel Thompson has been very solid. Jake never stops trying. AFB is improving. Kelly in patches. Jorge also.
But all of the others in our squad are better footballers than they have shown this season.

MY best for the year are as follows:

1. Jake - he is a machine
2. Marty
3. Thompson
4. AFB
5. Kelly - best back and most improved
6. Lane - second in most improved category
7. DCE - Whilst he doesn't always get it right he always puts in 100%

Tom's best position is wing. But it will never happen

Very possibly mate. Getting him out of fullback is the hard part, then finding out whether he belongs at centre or wing will sort itself out.

My best for the year:
Jake
Kapow
AFB
Kelly
Lane
Thommo
with Jetski, Paseka and Fainu showing promise.

All we need is a coach to gel and get the best out of our top 21.

In order....Tapau, Kelly, AFB, Thompson, Lane, DCE.....Walker & Api have been injured for extended periods. Paseka & Fainu are revelations & will only get better. Sipley not given a reasonable opportunity to show what he has to offer. The rest have had a moment or two but basically average.
