Driving over to Brooky this afternoon and seeing the persistant rain. I thought OK, we are down on signifcant troops and we have some rookies coming in, What we need is a back to basics peformance and start the game well and not repeat what happened last week. You knew that the Warriors would thrive in the wet, this is bread and butter for them over the ditch and its well known that Manly always seem to struggle when the heavens open.

So the game starts and you hope for a solid start. Kick off and the ball is allowed to bounce and our half is bundled into touch because no one else dealt with the problem. They do what good teams do, control the ball, get repeats and then they score try 1 from a kick and our winger is so out of position that the guy only has to catch it. OK so down 4-0, time to be solid and regroup from this setback. What did we do, gave up repeat sets and the inevitable try comes from a grubber as a result. 10-0 down and on the back foot. More errors from us and they are attacking us again, shocking defence allows a winger to beat feeble defenceto to score, down 16-0. HORROR START YET AGAIN!!!

We finally force an error and get some field position.Jake is a whisker away from scoring,, withouth the early tackle he is likely to score. A try comes to Funa after good lead up play and we are on the board! Beautiful try scored from a scrum with Suli on the burst and skitting defenders, gosh we need more of that!

We are 5 minutes from half time, they make 2 mistakes in their own quarter and we fritter away the chances to build significant pressure. That 2nd mistake from us gives them the ball a minute out from the break and a late penalty gives them field position and the last play of the half we get done again on our left side defence and concede a crucial try when all we needed to do was keep the ball and get into half time 16-10 down.

The 2nd half starts and again we are struggling to get any field position as our end of set kicks are just meaningless and we just give the ball back, The Warriors play it simple get a reset set and from yet another grubber score. Cardinal sin to concede before and after half time!!

Manly scramble back into the game and hit back with a neat try to young Oka. Hard running is what its all about! We get another good try with 14 minutes left and Rhueben does a great kick to get us to within four. Plenty of time on the clock.

This is when you need your halves to really boss the game, get repeat sets and wear down the opposition. It went mostly set for set and then we get a penalty with 3 minutes left and surely the play is to try and score and if not get a repeat as they were getting tired. What did we do. played a dry weather play and spilt the ball and they then managed to see it out..

What disappoints me is that there is effort from the team but they play some bloody dumb stuff at times.

its a wet night. all about basics, kick chase repeat sets and threaten with attacking kicks. Our opposition did it much better than we did tonight.

I know we are down and out with injuries. Losing AFB and later Marty to that sickening high shot made it tough. Some of the young forwards did really well.

Our achillies heel is our halves and hooker. We do not ask enough questions to opposition defences. I thought Cust did some nice things and DCE seemed rushed most of the night. We are so light in what our hookers are doing, We are not threatening and we need a hooker who can kick and get us repeats near the line.

It was a disappointing night and one thing that is repeating too much is these soft slow starts that are killing our chances of winning. This needs to be sorted out ASAP!!!

The next 3 weeks will determine if we play finals footy, Newcastle, Souths and Melbourne all away. If we do not get anything from these games its clear the season is gone, in that event we must blood more of these kids as the injury toll we have demands this!

There is no point rushing back Tommy if he is not right or Dylan for that matter, You need 17 fit men and its obvious for too long that we have too many passengers.

We really needed this win tonight and we are behind the 8 ball now that the vermin won their game.

We have to do better! This performance was well under par! I wrote last week, evolve or perish? This is the crossroads our club is at the moment.

I really hope that Des bloods some of these younger players and we see truly what our depth is!

That all sounds very nice and would be great to have but sorry, I would rather be watching the game than having to monitor both the set restarts and on what tackle they were on.

If anybody wants more than just the tackle restart tally that I have been posting, then somebody else can put their hand up and volunteer to do the tackle restart against the tackle count because I won't be doing it.

If what I am doing at the moment is not good enough, I can always just not post the tackle restarts at all if that's what others want. Just let me know and I will stop.

No way Jethro. You do a great job, and I always put a thankyou on your stat posts. Don’t let one pinhead get you down. ;)

So many one-out hit-ups and going for tries from Dummy half so predictable and so easy to read and shut down. I have not posted on here all year but the last two games have me thinking NEXT YEAR already.

And Des needs to start re-thinking strategies and selections

FFS Des.... pleaseeeeeee give some young kids a run. I don't give a ****TTT about finals or not this season. I wanna see us invest in youth and enthusiasm and not play safe with a bunch of journeyman plodders... unless you want me to call Nate "the forehead" Miles and see what he's up to.

The DCE to centres / lock is laughable. If you think he is the issue your watching a different game.

The problem is pretty simple: Elliott, Taufua (!), Croker, Waddell are all garbage. Boyle is a plodder too.

Get rid of them we start winning games.... pretty simple.

Two of our best players tonight were young fellas Des has been reluctant to select: Guaca and Tyfuna. D'ya think that might be a hint Des?
Again, within minutes of the start of the game, came a try from the how-to-beat-Manly playbook that every club knows - a kick over Jorge's head. Now, I think many of us have been pointing out this weakness for 5-6 weeks and yet Des persists with the same player.
Three of the Worriers' tries came from kicks. We scored no tries from kicks.
So, in 13 matches, we've scored one try from a kick and have had 18 scored against us from kicks.
If this isn't a failure of coaching to at least try new personnel and tactics then I don't know what is.
The other coaching problem is that most of our forwards don't run onto the ball. What, has Des allowed T-Rex to coach the forwards?
Overall we are so pedestrian we must be taking instructions from the Lollypop Man!

Weeks is a generous estimate, And yes, a failure point on Des' coaching is a fair comment

We've scored two. Thommo and Horhay. Yes I know. Big deal. But it's two at any rate.

Back from Brookie, what a crap night! Losing both AFB and Marty topped it right off.

Marty's knock-out in front of me was sickening, and the turning point. Best part was being under cover, luckily.

Disappointingly, there goes top 8 in 2020 :(

I tip my hat to you and all the brave souls that attended tonight.

A true supporter indeed, please take a small note from the till on your way out.

As a Manly supporter today was a tough day. I don’t think I have been as upset as this since 2015 when they lost in the same fashion to Parramatta on a rainy day at Brookvale.

They just play stupid. It’s one thing not to have great combos but the players in this team do the same exact thing every single play. They are the most predictable team in the competition.

Manly are gone for 2020. I think now is the time for coach to realise that and start blooding some new players for next year, or get them to try something different. This team as it is playing now just does not have it.

Dear Des please hear me. I have accepted we may well not make finals this year. Even if we did, I am resigned to accepting an early exit. To be frank, I don't care about that sh1111Te, Just please blood some young'uns and give us sone hope and excitement
