His stats for the season coming into that game were 60% and he happens to hit them from everywhere.
Another chapter in the story of our season.
That’d be right. Not only do we play teams into form, we do it for their goal kickers.

The point showed with Schuster and Harper that they made a difference in the backline and should have been there a lot earlier.

I know Des is being careful but this has been a serious mistake on his part to persist with players not up to scratch while kids like these two sit on the side line and end up underdone because of lack of game play. Not having the Reggies makes it hard, but he should have adapted. Metcalf is another example unused and even Burbo could have benefitted from a few games off the bench. The same also applies with Hopoate. If he had brought them through much earlier as so many on this site have been arguing, this season may not have ended in such a rabble.

All Des had to do was bring each on through the bench to get game time without having a full game straight off and they would have been match fit. Its not good enough for a top line coach to err in this manner, especially one with such a glowing reputation. I really hope Des has a good look at his performance over the off season, and shows some of the initiative he showed 10 years back, because its not just injuries that have brought this team down.

I know this sounds like an amateur telling a professional his job, but there are a lot of amateurs on this site who could see the errors. Its almost like he was too scared to take the risk in case of losing his reputation and in the end its done just that. He should have learned that at the Dogs. As has been said, he needs to seriously rethink his tactics over the off season.
Totally agree mate, he has to break out of his traditional ways and start thinking outside the square which is exactly what Cleary is doing with the Panthers

You know, I honestly don't know why people think DCE should be or can be a game manager. He never has been and never will be. He's the type of halfback who plays what's in front of him. He's at his best when we are on the front foot and he can get his running game going. But expecting him to be a game manager is just not his style of play and whenever he does do it, it always looks forced and it never seems to work. That's why he has always looked better when he's had that managing 5/8 next to him. Players like Foz and Blake Green.

Remember the 2014 Origin Series when he replaced Cronk? That Qld team over the years was basically run by Lockyer until he retired, Smith and Cronk, while Thurston was given free reign to use his talents. When Cronk broke his arm and DCE replaced him, Meninga had him playing Cronk's managing role and it didn't work. Even with Smith there he looked all at sea in that series. And its the same thing today with Manly.

DCE has never been and never will be the game managing type halfback. To expect otherwise is to set yourself up for failure. He needs a halves partner (and/or a hooker) who can carry that load for him so he can play his what's in front of him style.
Most good halfbacks have a bit of "game management" string to their bow. It comes with the territory, and let's face it, it isn't that hard to develop when you see plodders like Blake Green, Chad Townsend etc doing it regularly as their only "skill". DCE has to learn that he can't play his strong suit (running game, heads up play) without us doing the basics first. He needs to get into that mindset of thinking 2 or 3 plays ahead and working to an opportunity. Currently he just treats every touch as a work it out on the run and it isn't working regularly enough that it makes up for the multiple times it looks like a cluster. Does he want to improve as a player and bring his game up a level ? then work on these things. Are we to believe that the whole way through DCE's career in junior and senior footy that he has had someone holding his hand running the game so he can just play "what's in front of him" ??

Tough decision coming up for the club.Do they spend a bit and get a decent 9,if there’s any available or do they pay peanuts for another stop gap option in the hope Fainu is cleared?Dragons were in the same position with DeBelin and re-signed him with a clause that allows them to get him off their cap if he’s found guilty.Difference is,Fainu is more valuable to Manly than DeBelin is to Dragons

Train Cust as number 9

For his junior footy I honestly can't say because I never saw him play. But in his first grade career with Manly ... yeah it does seem like he can't excel unless he does have a game managing half alongside of him. I don't know why he can't game manage, or learn to. Its just how it is. Almost every time he has to, it rarely ends well.

You know, it always makes me laugh when we get a Ch.9 game and you hear someone like Johns crapping on about Cherry's game management skills which have "really grown in recent years". Every time he says something like that I find myself wondering what drugs Joey has been hitting because DCE is no more a good in game team manager than I am a Formula One driver.

Don't get me wrong. Daly Cherry-Evans is a great player, no if's, no but's. However, a game managing half he will never be. Ever since he became our halfback in 2011, our best years were always when the 5/8 was a good manager, either Foran or Green. Every other year when DCE has had to run things on the field, injuries aside, he has struggled to be at his best no matter how much he busts his gut trying and that has had an affect on how the team plays.

Thanks for FUKING up fathers day Manly. Unbelievably ****house. Epic failure. Several senior players should give back this week's wages

Agreed. My only solace is that the match didn't mean anything. Our season was cooked when we lost to the Worriers at Brookie. That match should have signalled to DESpicable that the team needed to ditch the old and try out new players.
At least we got to see a few of our talented youngsters play this weekend. Our backline looked so much sharper until the Shoe was taken off injured. This gives me hope for 2021.
I can't explain why Tafua was selected over Miski, and Duck over Guaca -- especially if Duck has signed with the Dogs, as reported.
But just like the team needed an injection of youth and experience so to does the coaching panel.

I admire your great work and the effort you put in for our mighty Sea eagles @The Wheel but pictures to remind us the way we capitulated on spiritual home ground where Great Manly legends of the past spill their blood to grind many resilient wins that made our club a legendary club are not very inspiring at all . We will always support our club and our players but we do not support inept plays as these mediocre performances are not Manly and do not do our proud club justice
To earn a place in our great Manly culture all fans must rise to club membership level
And all players must rise to a level where they can challenge for the title
All manly people must rise to the high Standards of our great club as we are all in this together .
And together we can make our great club great again .
