Manly v Roosters Rd 9 (pre game discussion)

Fair enough. To be honest Frankie is the least of our problems Woodsie.

I’m like you I’m not a big wrap on Hastings as a half and never have been ( actually think he’s a solid 9 as he has a nice pass and kick and yaps a bit. He’s had plenty of chances at half with the roosters and always seemed to be a bit flustered to me.

BUT he is the best option now by quite a way due mainly to default and should play.
Moses worries me as well. Too early for mine fitness wise. Mitchell is a star.i have a real bad feeling about that match up (even though Moses has so much talent 4 weeks back after being 120kg is not a good recipe).Lets hope I’m wrong

Can't argue your thinking ... but Rugby League is a funny game ..... when the whistle blows, all manner of strange things happen .... Moses and Walker are just as likely to get joint MOM .... it is what keeps bringing us back ...

Cheers ..

Dylan Walker determined to prove critics wrong after selection as Manly Sea Eagles No.6

MANLY star Dylan Walker likes to think he can prove critics wrong when he returns to the problem five-eighth role for the NRL clash with Sydney Roosters.
Regular centre Walker made it clear during the pre-season that he didn’t think he was the man for the pivot job when the possibility was raised following Blake Green’s departure.

“When it came up. ... I said, ‘Nah, man. I think I should just stay at centre. If you need someone there, I’d probably be the last choice’,” Walker told AAP before round one.

But the season-ending knee injury to Lachlan Croker and coach Trent Robinson’s continued controversial choice to overlook Jackson Hastings mean that’s where Walker will line up at Allianz Stadium on Sunday.

Walker remains stung by criticism of his previous stint as playmaker — the Sea Eagles won just five of 13 games when he was thrust in the role last season after arriving from South Sydney on a big-money deal.

However he believes he’s versatile enough to fill in there when called upon in time of need, even if it’s not his best position.

“I don’t like to close the door on that kind of opportunity,” said Walker on Wednesday.

“Five-eighth is something that I’m familiar with but I just haven’t played my best footy there.

“I’d like to think that I could show more there and prove a lot of critics wrong.”

One of the best, most respectful and well articulated back and forths I’ve read on Silvertails - well done @Woodsie and @Sue - that’s how it’s done.

Thanks PJayz

I went off here for a while because it just seemed a bit over the top at times. But I’m always drawn back. Can’t help it.

Most blokes on here are footy mad and know their stuff. Footy is a game where you can’t be right , an educated guess is as good as any of us can do. Every coach, player and team has their admirers and detractors. We all lose it a bit at times but if it’s kept pretty civil the site just adds to the pleasure of following a team.

Don’t reckon there is a single person on here who doesn’t want the best for the Eagles. Rants or crazy praise are what makes following your team a great ride.

I often forget, and I reckon most of us often forget, we are one of the few lucky mobs who have had something to celebrate each and every decade. That is an incredible achievement.

I thk we ****ed up. Knowing hastings was on the outa, than failing to replace green we should of just played hastings at 5/8 and got rid of him at the end of year. Croker could of done a year in reserves learning the role for if we fail to get anyone for 2019. Shoulda just sucked it up and got on with thier job.

He adds a lot as a decoy runner too. One of the better decoys in the game IMO. You'll always see him run right through the line and not stop half way like Thommo did in that Kelly no-try against the Eels.
Problem is everybody has worked it out that he's a decoy runner and rarely puts his hand up for a hard run.

Here is an interesting bit of trivia.

During the failed Walker at 5/8 experiment of 2016, one of the wins we did get was a 22-20 win in Rd.4 against the Chooks at the SFS (it was a 6PM Friday game).

The Chooks halfback that day was none other than Jackson Hastings.....

I'm not expecting us to get within 20 of the Chooks.

No matter how I try and analyse it, I get the same result every time.

My only hope is that I'm a shocking judge. Let's hope that trend continues.

Well for the 1st time this year I have not picked Manly to win in the couple of tipping comps I am in. We are now bound to win @;)

And Dylan scored the winning try last year when we played them at SFS - off a nice Brian Kelly pass.

Omens ??

Unfortunately, I do think we will lose this.

But I am expecting a close game.

I know the hatred for Barrett on here is strong, but the players love the bloke so am expecting them to stand up on Sunday in support of him.
