Team Victory Song:

We are the Manly boys,
We had a win today,
We are the boys you know of
We showed them how to play,
No matter where we’ll be
Maroon and White you'll see,
Oh aren’t we a wonderful credit
To our locality,
So cheer boys cheer,
We are together,
Every now and then we have a win…..have a win
We will play them all around
At our home or any ground,
If they’ll always play a fair and honest game
So it’s GUZZLE GUZZLE GUZZLE
As we pour it down our muzzle,
And sing out the order loud and clear, 'MORE BEER',
And we will drink all night
Until we are very tired
In the shade of the Manly Leagues Club.

Jeez mate, did you put a pic in of every second! lol.

(thanks)

Was a good win. Attack was sharp , didn't get to see us under much defensive pressure as the Cows were awful. Let's see us back it up next week. Jake's game was the best in years , Jazz at #9 was good. Please do NOT put Burbo at centre anymore. Got run around and stood up constantly.

I think we need Talau on the bench so that Burbo situation doesn’t hurt us one week

I thought Ben was actually pretty good tonight & had some good contact in defence. It’s like people on here want to ignore the 65 mins he had actually in the back row. Let’s get this straight… He’s a back rower playing every minute that was suddenly shifted to centre with 15 minutes left. He got burnt a few times 1 on 1 by the centre but the entire team was basically out on their feet which is fair considering it’s round 1.
Agreed, I haven’t been much of a Burbo fan but he played well in the backrow and it was only the switch to centre that soured his game. I hope those that don’t think we need a back on the bench because Burbo can cover there will be able to remember his last few stints in the centres now, Talau can take Waddell’s spot when fit but otherwise really happy with the 17 last night.

My only concern to come out of last night was the lack of line speed in defence. I was impressed with the attack but until we suffocate teams with our defence, we’ll be the same side as last year. Given all our possession, there’s no reason why we didn’t have the energy to really go after the Cowboys in defence. I get the fatigue at the end of the game for both sides, but I didn’t see the same intensity in our defensive line, as I saw in the Dogs against Dragons. That’s how you compete for premierships…get up in the face of the opposition and win contact. Make them kick long, etc.

Criticism of Burb, I feel, is justified. 6 missed tackles is not good enough. Needs to pick up on his game. Criticism of Saab I feel is not justified. 171 mtrs gained, 5 tackle breaks, a try. Can't do more than that. Defence better than we've seen but as LC points out, there still needs to be improvement. I don't think the Cowboys are that good and didn't have them in my 8 despite what some judges were suggesting. I'm also a little concerned Manly may be unprepared for the Storm in Rd5 given they play Warriors, Raiders and Eels in next 3 rounds, and though they should easily defeat those teams (should) its not good preparation for one of the two major heavyweights. I have Panthers, Storm, Sharks and Bronks as the teams likely to keep Manly out of the four.

For 65 minutes the team showed amazing energy with and without the ball. They did wilt in the last 15 minutes and concede a couple of tries which was disappointing. What I saw was an improvement in the speed of how the team played, very uptempo and they ran the Cows ragged. The line speed will improve as they get more match fit. What was really refreshing was seeing Manly control the ruck a lot better and what Jazz offered at 9 was a breath of fresh air!

I thought there were patches of footy that lacked tempo. There was a period where we had three sets on the Cowboys line and Paseka just showed no urgency to get up and play the ball quickly after taking a settler. At one point, he actually could have found his front and rolled himself onto his back and started gyrating on the ground, when he could have got up and played the ball. Then he got up slowly and played the ball in slow motion.

It’s hard to be critical of a team that just won the opening game of the season 42-12. I’m loathe to criticise but i do wonder if the flashy tries mask the fundamentals of the game that we still don’t display, i.e. line speed in defence and up tempo with the ball.

It could just be the Manly glasses I’m wearing and the anxiety to see us compete with the likes of Melbourne and Penrith. I’m hyper fixated on what we are doing, whereas watching other sides, I tend not to scrutinise as much.

We blew them away early. But we did that a bit last year as well and then teams came to get us. We kept the foot down and went up a gear after halftime to ensure there was no comeback. That was pleasing.

I thought Paseka was gassed at the point you mention (first half about 15th go?). I was yelling at him to play it quicker. He clearly couldn’t. Might have gone off just after that.

I think the game in NZ will be interesting. They have had a long layoff from Vegas and I suspect we will be all the talk this week. We should take care of them then two very winnable games at home into Melb.

Our record win for a first game of the season was 44 NiL
We could have beaten the Cowboys by more but it seamed that we dropped our intensity
How did you see it feathered friend @47MVEagle
