Manly star Manase Fainu’s drug, depression rehab

I can't help but think if it were Melbourne instead of Manly, they'd have backed Koroisau and let Fainu go. I am not saying Fainu is guilty (we can let the court decide that) but we the best defensive 9 in the comp go and he played in a GF the following year whilst our 9 sat out the year with a 'stabbing' charge hanging over his head. He has a track record but as always, Manly take the road of least resistance and choose talent over character. That's a big reason why we are a laughing stock right now. Talent only gets you so far.
...BAMMMMM.... nailed it...

Saab - whinged and sat out at the dragons. Suli - sacked from tigers and dogs. Walker - multiple indiscretions. Manase - multiple indiscretions. Taupau - individual.

Have let go blokes like Gutho - champion athlete, real team man. Deadset hit the nail on the head there.

Some of us have and managed to avoid the 'situations' that Manase has found himself in...

He is either guilty in which case off to jail or not guilty in which case he put himself in a pretty sh1t spot to be accused in the first place (attitude, lifestyle, associations etc)

I do question the thinking behind holding his ability above all else and offering a contract extension and I reckon it says a lot about us as a club - as does continuing to back someone with alcohol abuse issues and a history of DV (irrespective of whether he had a smart lawyer or not)

"There but by the grace of God go thou " ..

You mark a hard score card Frank ... whilst what you say may not be wrong .. and I agree with you in regards to his wannabe lifestyle ... If he is guilty he deserves what is coming ... but I can still find some compassion for the circumstances he finds himself in ... he is still very young and his mistakes are having dire consequences ...

Fair enough bud... maybe he's the unlucky one that gets busted every time...

I learnt well that if ya lay with dogs ya get fleas and imo Manly has an infestation atm...

“I’m actually proud of him,” Tartak said.
Easily pleased is this joker.

Can’t really argue with that.

Munster is as loose as you’ll get ...
Some of the stuff you hear from his Rocky mates is some really crazy ****.

They get to keep a lot under wraps down there being a non league town. If they can really play they will keep them believe me.That’s why the ones that do leave rarely perform.

I always get a bit uneasy when Melbourne get held up as poster boys for anything - given the salary cap fiasco with the whole club up to their necks in it with dual contracts etc and the wrestle bull**** with new charges having to be invented to stop injury to opposition players.

No one pushes the limits like them.Win at all costs - they don’t let the real good ones go just like everyone else.

They have incredibly wealthy owners - Jaycar, Tripp and co who make Penn look like a curb side beggar - there is a bag carrier for the bag carriers down there,. Nothing is too much re support. Does that make them a professional outfit ?You bet but it doesnt change the fact they will push the limits on everything- and being away from the spotlight helps them do it.

But regardless of player exploits off the field ,what Bellamy does incredibly well is hold players to account for every single thing they do ON the field. Something that doesn’t happen here and that’s the true difference.

Apart from the fact we don't really have that much talent.
Yep.. but sometimes I wonder can you ever change a trouble maker. Seems to be the same old faces in the sheite time after time.. hard to put old blokes heads on young fellas hey..

Hindsight .
But to be honest ,We could've gotten rid of Walker,Afb & Fainu three years ago and we would never of missed them ,and most likely be in a better position than we now are.

And his talent is overrated which is another general problem Manly have in the squad along with playing soft.

Fainu is the type of player you purchase when the team is already established and you want an extra bit of attacking potency and off the cuff flair around the ruck to compliment the team---we are too soft and uncompetitive to retain a soft player with some overstated attacking qualities.

The difference is Melb know better than most who "the real good ones are" while most others just "think" they are keeping the good ones and become chock full of average talent.

Latu Fainu is a 10 year first grader and will partner Jamie Humphreys in the halves with Schuster ball playing lock. I hope Manase is innocent but blind Freddy can understand the club’s long term vision.
Too many brothers in one squad never ends up well.

Most long term vision(in terms of squad planning) just buys time for the coach to achieve poor results in the short to medium term, the club will be a shambles by the time this vision is ready to be acted on and not attractive enough or financially viable to retain the best of our juniors when they are ready.

Salary caps and long term squad vision don't really go hand in hand, i don't have an issue with medium term vision though.
